Personally I would have preferred the wheels the car came with.
So far I don´t see a significant drop in quality as was feared with Ed leaving. Ant is as capable a mechanic as they come. Mike is still finding interesting cars and they are keeping them original and only update the mechanics.
As long as they are not starting to yell at each other and calling them names I´ll keep watching.
Wow, Wheeler Dealers without Ed. Never thought this possible. But Ant is a good replacement. I like what he did with Glenister on For the Love of Cars. So, looking forward to this season.
I was a bit surprised to see that there aren´t any comments for this show positive or negative.
If you can overlook the total disregard for realism in key parts to serve the dramatization you can say it´s entertaining. But that disregard, for me, took the seriousness out of the show. And quite honestly I wanted to quit after the first season but went on only because it was a short running show.
So, what about the realism ? Well, just some of the problems with the show:
- Right at the beginning they parachute into enemy territory in broad daylight. Right there was the first moment I chuckled. In general, going in and out of the occupied territories in Europe seems to be as easy as buying a ticket and going there.
- Realtime radio communication from all over Europe to Canada with a suitcase radio and a short cable as an antenna that at best came a few meters high. That is realism sacrified for dramatization.
- There is also no reality in relation to time and space. Remember this is 1942. You don´t travel from France to Canada in a day, yet this happened repeatedly that they send characters on that journey.
- One specific thing that almost made me laugh was at the beginning of season two. They stopped a Tiger tank with an outside explosion (c4?) that in real life would barely scratch the paint. That armor couldn´t be cracked by allied tanks until late in the war. Yes, they said they wanted to explode under the tank but they didn´t. And that aside, the characters should have been done right there. You approach a Tiger tank on the open field with small arms and you´re done.
Some other things:
- Some of the uniforms looked cheap. I don´t know why but the looked like Helloween costumes. Althought I just noticed it at the beginning.
- Season 1 had no suspense because it was clear from the first episode what would happend in the last and what the cliffhanger would be. Way to predictable.
- Why have there always be those kind of back and forth romances ?
- There were huge story gaps at times and some of the things that did happen where downright unbelievable and the behavior of the characters at times stupid.
- I guess the fact that the germans stopped speaking German was a concession to the english (speaking) audience. I actually liked that because it added realism that they speak their language when amongst themselves.
- Bringing the Fabers in never really worked out. It was too much back and forth as thought the writers never seemed to know what to do with them and the end felt a bit forced.
I know it is a lot of criticism and in TV you have to sacrifies something to make a show, any show, work. But there are certain levels you have to acchieve if you are making a show that is based in reality. Alltogether the show never created the urge to want to watch the next episode. There where good moments when the show dealt with harsh things that happened during those years in history. But as mentioned above there are to many negatives in the setup for me.
This is all the episodes of season 6 put into one continous one.
Very good background information about the movie. Contains interviews and behind the scenes looks.
This is one of the very few time I wholeheartedly disagree with what they´ve done to the car. Those Mercedes are becomming harder and harder to find in original spec because so many of them have been pimped up. They had a genuine survivor with some technical problems. Should have just sorted the mechanicals and leave it factory original.
So ?
Volkswagen cheated with their engines - so do others, they just haven´t been caught. Yet !
Rolls Royce paid bribes to officials to secure contracts - so do others. Same as above.
I don´t say this is right but this is they way the worldwide industry is working for decades. And politicans close there eyes knowingly.
So where is the real scandal ???
I barely remember the movie it´s been to long but this definately made me want to see more. Great Atmosphere and I especially like the soundtrack. If there is one small question in my mind it´s how much potential the story really holds moving forward.
So they did lame clip shows even back then.
It´s the same rubbish excuses why we need more surveilance and why we should embrace it. The truth is Government want it so it has better control, Corporation want it so to better manipulate consumers. That´s all there is to it. The so-called benefits are just sugarcoating.
That´s a hell of an episode for a 70s TV show.
I really wanted to like this show but I´m drifting more and more towards quitting it.
I´ve had a lot of fun watching this season but hopefully this isn´t the end. It can´t be. I just hope the gamble will pay of and the story continues.
Best thing I´ve seen on TV for quite a while.
This is the type of episode you won´t forget. Doesn´t matter how long ago I watched it, this stayed in my mind.
Another great season of DS9. This is more like a 26 hour feature. The quality is awesome and it´s a reminder of what can be accomplished in TV if given the chance. Shows like this don´t come/came often. I dare to say there is nothing on todays listing that can compare. If so I haven´t seen it, yet.
I´m almost reluctant to watch the next season knowing it´s the last one.
They should make a whole episode like the opening sequence. That looked awesome.
Can you imagine Cpt Picard ever pulling something like that?
What is there not to like about this particular episode? Dulmer & Lucsly...priceless.
Well, I must admit althought I never was into the Supergirl/Superman comics I liked the pilot. Looks really good technically. If they can come up with some good storylines this could make my watchlist.
