I hate this show so much sometimes, too many reasons to list why.
Rape is not entertainment. Disgusting film.
I'm not at all surprised that Jamie's abusive, fuck him and fuck this show for portraying an abusive husband as a joke.
I wish Claire could teleport back to 1945 ASAP.
Men's monologues, one of the most boring things in the world.
Justice for Cherie, Bo should’ve been thrown in jail where he belongs.
Wifebeater jumpscare :sob: :sob: :sob:
I'm so tired of the misogyny on this show. I'm trying to finish the first season before I give up on this crap, but I don't know how much more I can take. It's already awful knowing how normalised abuse and victim blaming is in real life, I need fiction to be an escape from that, not remind me of it without any hope for change.
This was so horribly inaccurate I suffered more and more every minute. The basically just took the bullet points of Anne Lister's life, the names of those she knew, shuffled the timeline around, and made up almost everything that happened for the sake of drama. There was plenty of drama in Anne Lister's life they could've chosen to make a film about instead of making stuff up.
Apparently Anne did not have a father or sister, and her aunt was obsessed with her finding a husband even though she supported Anne being a lesbian in real life.
One of the most extraordinary parts of Anne Lister's life was that she travelled extensively, but it's barely mentioned. I understand if they can't show that because of budget reasons, but it should at least have been mentioned more than it was.
No mention of Ann Walker's lifelong struggle with anxiety and depression, and they completely changed their relationship. No courtship, they just randomly decide to get married after Ann randomly moves in, instead of showing how much of a struggle it was to even make that happen.
I don't know if I would be this annoyed if this was the only adaptation of Anne Lister's diaries, maybe I would have been grateful simply for someone to adapt Anne Lister's story no matter how inaccurate it was. Thankfully Gentleman Jack exists, especially given how accurate it is.
I do think it's fun that Gemma Jones portrayed Aunt Anne Lister twice.
Rape is not entertainment. Disgusting.
Ugh. I was hoping every episode that things would turn around, that all the ableism would have a purpose, but no. I’m so tired of seeing female characters in media end up with the men that (ab)use them, or having them commit suicide because their health issues are a “burden” to those that are supposed to care about and support them. Yet another story from Netflix with an interesting outline, but with a poor resolution.
Was the scene of a child making out with an adult really necessary?
It's so painfully obvious this show was written by men. Both the audience and Bianca deserved better than her being reduced to outdated and lazy stereotypes in order to give an unsympathetic male character some manpain for a few seconds.
Rape is not entertainment. 1/10
I had forgotten how badly Cesare treated Ursula/Martha. Rewatching their scenes is uncomfortable to say the least.

The shit I will watch for an actor I like. What the fuck was this absolute trash.
I'm so disappointed that a show with such an interesting premise turned out to be complete and utter trash. There are so many things wrong with this show that listing them all would take too much time. It's exhausting to watch a rape victim being blamed by everyone around him and the fact that the writers thought it a good idea for him to find his happy ending by forgiving his rapist and letting go of his wish to remain child free is absolutely disgusting. What kind of statement are they trying to tell by writing this? Why are they trying to teach their audience that such behaviour is ok? I truly thought we had come further than this. And then there's Marina. A woman who was taken advantage of by a man, gets slut shamed by everyone in every single episode, and ends up married to a stranger so her family will finally get rid of her. I truly do not understand how such stories can be told in this day and age without anyone in the production questioning it.
I really wish Annie would sort her life out, instead of having all of these inappropriate relationships :/ Starting with becoming a better mother would be great, instead of Ben being the parent.
Shantel VanSanten carried this whole episode.
Carrie is such an asshole and Big deserves better.
You know you’re desperate for sapphic content when you’ll watch a cop show starring a Tory.
What a disappointing death. Feels like something was going on behind the scenes cause story wise it doesn’t make much sense.
Bill keeps finding new ways of being the worst. What an asshole.
One abuser down, too many left to go.
Bill is such a hypocrite in so many ways.
Good riddance to that POS!
I love Pikachu so much
Someone on Twitter made a fan edit of this called The Monkey Island Cut where they edited out Jack Sparrow. So now I can finally watch this Keira Knightley film without the wifebeater <3
Robert was such a great guy and now he's suddenly an asshole who sexually harasses Miranda. You'd think that's a symptom of poor writing, but sadly Nice Guys exist in real life.
