I had not seen the trailer and had absolutely no idea what the premise was. I can definitely imagine that it would be a more enjoyable experience this way, since I was surprised throughout. A fairly inventive movie, clever plot, and strong performances from the leads. The scares all add to the story, too! It's not purely jump scares for no reason.
EDIT: I just read the Trakt synopsis- it gives away a huge bit of the story. I am even more glad I knew nothing about this movie or I probably would have been more judgmental.
EDIT 2: Trakt has changed the synopsis to be more vague, but I still think I enjoyed the movie even more without reading anything about it or even seeing artwork. halfway through the movie I could not imagine how it could be a horror movie, which is exactly why it was such a good horror movie.
Initial Reaction
The Good
• The sets and world design are hands down some of the best the series has to offer. Really above and beyond on how they could expand the amazing lore.
• Music is also good. Mixing with the old theme still carries on here from the previous film, and it works.
• The opening. It's amazing, truely a fantastic opening to what seemed to be such a promising movie. The best opening to any Wizarding World film.
• New creature designs are spectacular. Beautiful to behold.
The Bad
• The plot is awful. This is a set up film. It goes nowhere. Having a prequel means to expand upon something we don't know the ending too. Or at least be interesting enough to care about something else that we don't know the finale too. This movie does neither.
• Zero stakes.
• Predictable if you know how they screwed up characters.
• There is a serious lacking of motivation from every character. Except Dumbledore possibly.
• Continuity errors that the first film justified, but here they just forget about.
• Acting is ok but I really didn't care about these characters they are trying to make me love. The first film made me care. Here, it's just like they aren't the same people.
• Though, I will commend the dark tone it carries for the first half or so. Its comedy that it tried to slot it, didn't work at all.
Other
No post-credit scenes after the film finishes.
Conclusion
This is without a doubt, the worst film so far in the franchise. I say so far, because apparently there are going to be 3 more movies. Which I doubt after this. Truely a disappointment as I am left dissatisfied.
"My hand has blood"
"Ahh, mine too"
One of my biggest television pet peeves is when a character can explain a situation a trillion times better than they actually do - and they don’t. When they can very easily defend their actions, successfully and succinctly - and they don’t.
That was Hughie here. Frustrating to no end. Starlight doesn’t deserve you.
Rant over.
Really wanted one universe jump where he meets himself as Sherlock Holmes
It's just perfect. The end with Jessica Pearson was so unexpected, that's why I love Suits.
OMG this last episode was my favorite. That last minute i was cover in tears, Brandy barking and Lisa waiting for Tony say good night..
So emotional..
I love After Life
I'm already in love with this. The way it's shot and edited is goddamn amazing.
I knew that at one time or another I would start to hate this Isaac for real.
All hail Ivar the brainless
Not Elliot! They can hurt anybody except Elliot!
Enjoyed the light supper with Mr. Hargreeves.
"keep your hands clean"
and then Cherry Bomb.
Awe-some!
Did mansplain really have to be a line this week ?.
At what point, putting a mask on the faceless character seems like a good idea to Flora. Holy God Creepy
That scene with Klaus and Dave was so raw and heartbreaking
Man, Ricky, you're killing me over here . :sob:
This show is so well made. I'm glad it got renewed for Season 3.
Haha what a twist at the end! There was a beat right before the reveal when I called it. I figured if they were at her place we were going to meet the ex and it must be someone we already know. The cop! Delicious!
Damn that arcade bit was super cute!
Damn. That climax paired with Killing Moon. Loved it. Lillis was brilliant this episode.
Such a utterly short show. I need so much more.
Way too predictable. Not surprised by any of the 'reveals'. And again with the stupid mistakes, up to the last episode. The acting is great and the general plot is interesting and all, but the high production value doesn't make up for the added in mistakes to make the story progress. It's so lazy.
Who the fuck kills themselves by putting a plastic bag over their own head? This episode was so bad :(
It was a good episode.Even if they kind of telegraphed what was going to happen. Once I knew Aquadude was in the flashback I figured out what was likely to be his fate. It did take a few minutes before I realized he was Jason from PLL.
What I didn't like was the pace. Especially near the middle. I've also grown to really dislike when a show does something exciting then switches tracks the very next episode to something else, making the viewers wait another week to get back to what they really want to see. It's a cheap trick that to many shows use.
"Sorry, it was an accident."
"So was the Y chromosome, but you don't see us throwing stuff at it."
This show has a format where, 20 mins in while two people are having a conversation - one says. "what. what did you just say? ..." and they somehow use a single sentence to solve all the problems they're faced with.
[setting inside a pizza shop, Harvey is ordering a NY slice of pie] .. yes, but what kind of toppings do you want on your pizza, sir? .. WHAT did you just say to me? pizza toppings? the killer is allergic to onions, how could he have filed that lawsuit on the pizza sauce?!? hes innocent! "
... all that aside. how long before Harvey and Donna hook up. End of season? .. Next season? .. End of season I say.
This show is so good and so shitty at the same time. When they start doing stuff it's awesome. But first they have to talk. Then talk about talking. Then they have to lie to each other. Then they have to leave the new Titans behind, again. What a sucky team they've made so far. Of course they always have to leave Rachael behind because she might just whip the bad guys.
I don't know why everyone is so high on Ivar. He's an egomaniac who's only interested in himself. Ragnar always had his people in mind.
[8.3/10] Such a fun episode. One of the great things about Community is just how well-observed all the spoofs are, and how well they manage to map whatever piece of pop cultural flotsam they’re toying with these week onto this show’s sensibilities. “Epidemiology” is a superb episode, because it manages to make this a legitimately great zombie story in its own right (replete with a nice visual reference to Day of the Dead), while also bolting on a nice Troy/Abed and a lot of character-specific jokes.
For one thing, there’s a lot of great visual work in this one. The lighting is dark and appropriately spooky for the setting, while leaving enough light to see all the characters and the zombies clearly. The races and escapes from the undead are great and tense while still being light enough to work. And the way the show plays with the tropes like people being trapped in the room while someone’s hiding that they’ve been bit, or Abed encouraging Troy to break barriers by making it to the end show a self-awareness and specificity of the parody that elevates it.
Plus, there’s great character moments galore. I died laughing at Jeff’s antics, between him being more worried about his suit than dying, and him texting regardless of whether or not he was zombified. The Chang/Shirley thing never really made sense to me, but I like the two of them bonding over people not getting their costumes, And of course, the way the episode turns a zombie outbreak into a brief but potent exploration of Troy’s desire to be cool juxtaposed with his desire to be Abed’s friend despite his nerdiness is great.
And hey, they even mix in some solid zombie explanations here, with experimental military taco meat (which makes sense given the Dean’s penny pinching), an air-conditioning based solution, and the military coming in to dose everyone afterward with a cover story. (As always, Jim Rash is tremendous as the Dean -- his delivery just cracks me up every time.)
Overall, a fantastic zombie parody, a nice Troy/Abed episode, and a lot of great Halloween comedy. Plus George Takei! What more could you want?
Yaaas, I'm so glad Otis sees Adam as I do! I honestly don't understand why do people support him over Rahim. Rahim was sweet from the first moment and didn't have a single bad word towards Eric (or anyone else). Maybe Eric feels "special"(?) because the bully started to have feelings for him, but I 100% agree with Otis - Eric hid this fact and their sneak-outs because deep down he, too, knows that Adam is not a good person.
And how glad I am that he realized this and chose Rahim!
I saw that coming from Ola when she accidentally leaned a little close to Lily in the previous episode (or 2 episodes ago?). Though the way she handled things with Otis and Lily... eh, really not the best thing to do. Spontaneousness might have its advantages, but in this episode Ola showed us its downsides. Think before you act.
-How was your evening?
-Very satisfactory. And yours?
-She was not a she.
-What?
-You heard.
-Hmm. And, uh was that a problem for you?
-I'm starving
Tears. I have cried SO much watching this show and the ending of this episode completely broke me. I'm glad Emma showed up, I'm so so glad. She doesn't even know that she literally saved his life. I think it's so good that there is going to be another season. It's very important to tell stories like this. To see how close to death a person can get but how little things and certain people can get you back.
One thing is having no fear another one is being completely reckless, dumb, selfish, and annoying. Like if you have no fear why not go alone into the cave... nonsense drama.
