This just breaks my heart for so many reasons and on so many levels. The supernatural really does pale in comparison to a human being's capacity for hate and violence. :(
I came into this series not having read the book/s so it was all so very new and refreshing to me. And I liked that. I fell totally in love with Anne and Green Gables. I wallowed in every rise and fall (and rise again) of emotions I experienced while watching this series.
Sometimes, we need a little touch of inspiration in the midst of a television era steeped in violence and hopeless situations. ♥
OH, but THAT ending, though~! I am going to cry if this series does not come back for a second season to resolve THAT!
I like shows that are clear on their intentions and focused on the kind of narratives they wish to tell. Vikings is one such show. In as little as nine episodes it has managed to introduce both its core characters and the people who support and oppose their ideals, what drives such ideals, what they want, what they're willing to give up, and what they will fight with their lives to keep. What really matters to them and how their own pride could more often than not make them buck on their own words.
Also, in as little as nine episodes you learn about the Vikings culture, the stories they tell about their gods, about how they view the world. These people are not blinded by their faith, because they view their faith with honor, which then in turn gives them fearlessness that always serves them well in battle.
I like Ragnar's adventurous spirit, his curiosities, his openness to discover, learn and understand new things that far surpasses his known beliefs. We can all learn a thing or two from the "friendship" he has with Athelstan. How despite the differences in their beliefs, they can still manage to carry sensible discussions. Not to try and change each other's views, but to understand that different views exist and that we can all learn something new from them if we just sit back and listen.
I like Lagertha and the calm strength with which she handles herself, her family, her title and the responsibilities it entails. I like Floki and the queerness with which he handles everything~! I like Gyda and how her presence draws out the tenderness in both Ragnar and Lagertha. I like Bjorn and the loyalty he has to sworn ties. I like Rollo and how his loyalty to his brother is tested at each turn (that poor chap!).
I also really like how Vikings pulls back from the unnecessary gore and nudity that so plague most TV shows right now, relying instead on its actors' skills combined with music and camera work that efficiently fill in the gaps for its audience (I teared up over that sacrifice scene in Uppsala - that was simply heart-wrenchingly beautiful T.T<3). I like gore. But I also really like subtleties that can better replace them when done right.
I have already watched the latter seasons and watching the first one has really made me appreciate this series even more~! I can't wait to get started on season 2~!
Slow burn. Big bang finish. I am still picking up the bloody little pieces of my shattered little faith (and heart).
I didn't expect to love this series as much as I do now, considering how it took me three days to finish the pilot episode. xD
But all of its wacky irreverence, solemn complexities, and 'wait, what the shite just happened?!' moments really do grow on you overtime (along with Jesse's scruffy mug, Cassidy's sassy accent, and Tulip's kickass charms).
I am so looking forward to what's coming next for this hapless trio.
And what's with all these TV shows and their "God is missing" angles?Maybe Jesse should hook up with Lucifer and the Winchester brothers sometime. That would be hella fun! xD
Wow, that hit deep. This does serve as a lesson and a reminder that the scariest things on earth are not the ones we don't understand, but those we think we do enough to give up a piece of our souls for, until all we've got left is our souls to give for something we never really understood in the first place.

Who knew that my two most favorite superheroes this year would end up being priests? Despite their personal burdens and very human weaknesses, Fathers Marcus and Tomas have sure shown enough courage, strength, and commitment to their cause to bring back my own faith in, well... superheroes. :)

I've never read the novella. I've seen the movie, but felt so bad about how it ended. I kind of liked this series, but felt even worse over that finale. I really wish there were a second season, if only to answer all the questions that the first one left. How dare you make me care and then leave me hanging like that~!!
My first encounter with the chainsaw-wielding Ash Williams was on the "Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness" short film and he rocked! I have never watched any of the "Evil Dead" movies, but I think this series served as a good launching point to binge on them until the second season rolls around. ♥
I remember watching occasional episodes of this series on the local channel and feeling like I've become a better person each time. I love the Fab 5! I love every wise advice, every catty remark, every tongue-in-cheek and honest-to-goodness commentaries. I also love the straight guys for being such good sports.
It's fabulously glorious being able to go back and rewatch these episodes again along with the ones that I have missed.

I absolutely love The Cowboys and this has got to be one of my favorite TAR seasons. Jet and Cord are no doubt a very skillful team, and whatever they lack in skill they more than made up for with diligence and a positive attitude.
The other teams were also very memorable in their own quirky ways. ♥

But it's not wrong.
We live in dangerous times and need to be extra mindful of the choices we make, not only for our own sake, but also for the part we play in the grand scheme of things.
Raff made his choices out of ambition and a need for redemption.
He went by blind faith and turned his head the other way even after Oliver gave him a peek of his true color.
Raff was driven by a selfish need to regain his lost status, that old prestige as the wunderkind.
And look where that got him.
I am really loving this reboot, its efforts at making old, recurring nightmares relevant to the times, and the mindful references it makes to the original.
I love that it can still make me question the real, consider the odds of the seemingly unreal and waddle in the infinite possibilities that exist in the in-between. And even then, not every question is answered. Not every mystery is solved in ways that immediately make sense (or at all). But the messages that each episode hopes to impart are always there and are never missed.
Welcome, indeed, to the new Twilight Zone.

There's nothing cooler than a guy who can make fun of himself like this and also put a little bit of heart to something that kicked off in such a whacked out way. I will never stop loving JCVD/JCVJ/JCVV/whoever the hell he chooses to be. ^^
I have never watched the movies that inspired the show and was only roped into watching this when I had to write about it for a previous work I had. And I ended up enjoying every episode so much that it genuinely ripped my soul apart watching those final scenes with Riggs in this season finale.
OH MY GOD! I can't even begin to describe how much that hurt. Every punch he got from and gave to his dad, weighted by all the pain he has been carrying, even nurturing inside him for years. And just when you think everything was gonna be okay for him, that cemetery scene came along and turned things around in a snap. To be fair, though, the episode did some really decent foreshadowing there, I just chose to ignore it.
And I can't even begin to imagine what this would do to Murtaugh.
I came into this season knowing this was going to be Crawford's last. And as much as it excited me to see Seann William Scott in the next one, Martin Riggs is always gonna be missed. Terribly. T.T<3
It's been a while since I watched a series that got me so excited (full disclosure: body switch is my most favorite trope, my guiltiest of all guilty pleasures ), then filled me up with dread (it was so heartbreaking to watch those first few minutes ), pissed me off , made me laugh , brought pleasant flutters to my heart , triggered tears , and made me want to just cancel everything and do that over again .
And I've watched all of ONE EPISODE.~!

I burned through the first and second seasons of this series in three weekday days. That's usually how long it takes me to decide whether to move through some of the less compelling pilots I have attempted to watch.
Of course, my views could be a little biased since I really do like slasher films to begin with. And although there indeed was an underwhelming amount of body count in a series supposedly based on a slasher film franchise that usually left the main lead friendless and fending for herself, I really did still like it.
I liked how the characters gradually became familiar as the series progressed. This would've effectively drawn buckets of tears from my eyes at their death scenes. But as already mentioned, hardly anybody that mattered actually died. Of course, my heart did still break when they killed off the two douchebags right when they were just about to turn their lives around. Television is a cruel, cruel world!
And god, that scene on the police department's rooftop was really, really upsetting in a 'M'just-gonna-curl-up-in-a-corner-and-sort-myself-out' way! T.T
I heard about this series last year and I have always wanted to watch it. But it wasn't until I had to do some research about it and found out that Bex Taylor-Klaus was in it that I actually took the effort to search it out (got the hugest girl crush on her since Arrow). I already knew who the killers were going to be before I came into this series, but I made sure I didn't find out who they were going to kill to leave myself something to bite my nails over. The killer reveals would've resonated with me more deeply if I hadn't known, but as they say it's the journey that counts, right? And Scream sure did a fine job keeping me hooked right up to the very last scene.
Can't wait for the Halloween special in October! I am most certainly going to cry until I'm bleeding from my eyes if any of the remaining Lakewood survivors ever dies.
Then again, what fun would a slasher series be if all of them ended up surviving in the end?
A pretty diverse collection of speculative short films that thrills, humors, devastates, horrifies, and really challenges the viewer to look more closely and see the unspoken parts of the stories cleverly tucked in the gaps between the lines.
But it's just the first season, after all.
I guess, it's only toeing the line.
I have high hopes for crazier, wilder, bolder picks for next season. ^^

That was a bit... anticlimactic?
I have readied myself for this. From watching similar anthologies like, "Masters of Horror," and the "ABCs of Death," I found that the Japanese episodes tend to be one of the creepiest and cringiest, if not the bizarrest, what-the-efferiest picks of the bunch.
This was heartbreaking, for sure.
But it also felt lukewarm.
Not even the crawling scared me.
And crawling in Japanese horror movies always scare me.
Perhaps I just expected too much of the wrong thing...? o.o
