Wednesday

Well this was a Fun Surprise! Started watching the first ep and was so hooked I watched the whole season.

Great cast, wickedly funny and quality writing. Loved the way they incorporated the finger clicking and 'Thing' is so friggin Cool! Other family members are great too.

Has a kind of Buffy flavour to it. If you liked the Addams Family, dig dark humour, just good shows that are off tilt then get... start watching Wednesday! Solid 8.5!

The Walking Dead: 11x24 Rest in Peace

You know those long drives when you were young and at the beginning you were excited for the adventure... But after a long while the inevitable comes out of your mouth; ARE WE THERE YET??

We finally made it. It was a good adventure when it first began but the journey became too damn tedious and boring especially the last few seasons.

Thank you for the ride.

The Peripheral

Our little girl Chloë Grace Moretz is all grown up from the 'Kick Ass' days but she's still kicking ass in this scifi series and she's playing the part well. As with all the primary cast kudos to the casting crew.

The Peripheral is a mix of real-time and 'virtual time' and without giving anything away it isn't hard to (not like WestWorld became), follow.

The other characters have good backstories, and as I'm writing this with ep6 under my belt, there is a lot to keep you interested not just the main Flynne (Chloë) thread.

If you like sci-fi with an original story plot with hints drawing from the likes of 'Matrix', 'Ready Player One', 'Free Guy' and 'Westworld' then you need to give 'The Peripheral' a look. I'm quite impressed as it's tight, SFX are good and the story is coming along very nicely.

The only thing I found distracting is the lack of Flynne wearing a pendant (when you watch it you'll understand). it's got my solid 8 to 8.5

Very enjoyable indeed. Binged the lot and it was a blast.

You need to like mystery, sci-fi, subtitles (heavily used as there are migrants going to America) and having said that you need to be engaged continually to keep up.

There were a couple things that griped me, but it's more personal. I'm getting quite frustrated by the lead actor (not only in this show but others too), that has a husky voice and on top of that she is a quiet talker and whispers 90% of the time making it very hard to hear her especially the way these shows are mixed, always seems to have higher than normal background noise or music. It isn't all the women actors. Just damn annoying.

Then there are the predictables. But all in all the season engaged me, the actors held my attention.
The beetle... interesting. My overall rating for this season would be 8.5/10

1899: 1x01 The Ship

Well, just like 'Dark', the creators of both series, '1899' has its running shoes on from the opening credits. There is already enough mystery and interesting characters introduced to make your taste buds salivate for more, and it's only episode 1.

Be prepared for a plethora of subtitles as the ship they are on is a ship of migrants from various countries. But if you like quality shows you wouldn't be adverse to subtitles at all.

Overall, as episode 1 of a new series is concerned you wouldn't be wasting your time checking this new series out if you like science fiction, mysteries, and interesting characters.

The Walking Dead: 11x23 Family

We are finally on the eve of the finale.
They aren't going to pull a part 1 and a part 2 on the finale are they? I wouldn't be surprised.

A very predictable episode and some of the interactions were, a low pass at best. Sneak, sneak, yell?
Well only one more episode to go, hopefully.
Will we get an appearance by you know who or you know who 2?

The Peripheral: 1x03 Haptic Drift

I'm enjoying this show. The cast are good, they are well suited to the rules they're in. Chloë is a good watch, she's really growing as an actor. 'Burton' nailing it. All of them are.

The sci-fi is a great mix and isn't as, let's say, as 'ethereal' as WestWorld so with Jonathan Nolan as part of the creative team in this case it's a good thing. Give the show these first three episodes and if you are fan of sci-fi in the realm of Matrix, Westworld, with hints of other good sci-fi I'm sure you'll find this entertaining and with giving it at least a whirl.

The Walking Dead: 11x21 Outpost 22

Unfortunately more exposition where we needed expiation. I'm all for character development but we've had most these characters for years and others quite frankly should've found a nice zombie being invited over for dinner many episodes ago.

Couple things have continued to confound me... Why hasn't the fuel gone stale after all these years, it doesn't last forever. And where the hell they get these brands new Jeeps n bikes?

And of all the dumbest questions ever asked why do people asking where the train is going? You Know where it's going and where it has gone! There's bloody tracks! Just follow.. The tracks.

Sometimes you have to wonder who are these writers' audience, people with brains, or people that use to have brains, now they just eat 'em.

If we don't have the (what I expect as the) pay off in these last few episodes (3 to go) I'm gonna go Zombie on people myself.

The Peripheral: 1x02 Empathy Bonus

It had me totally intrigued and immersed in this story already.
The ensemble is well put together, the writing is good, giving us enough reveal and mystery, while keeping the time frame depicted as realistic.

See Amazon, you Can put something together that can draw interest and keep an audience. It doesn't have to cost a Billion either. I may have wrote out loud what I was thinking. Ohh well.

The Peripheral: 1x01 Pilot

Interesting.
Set several years in the future this sci fi has a somewhat unique story that can go all sorts of directions. This has got me intrigued so far. Interesting cast, interesting characters. So far the story is humming along quite well and I'm looking forward to following episodes.

This has my interest far more easily than another recent Amazon series of recent times. Worth checking it out.

The Walking Dead: 11x20 What's Been Lost

We are witnessing a show that is being bled dry.

The early scene of Daryl being pinned was so lame all to show he is vulnerable to danger even though we've seen far more dangerous moments Daryl easily deals with in the past.

Then the writers are clearly drawing out the final shows as their writing has become far too predictable.

Let's hope the finale of the last two to three episodes make use of the last handful and not serve us more fillers till the very last episode.

Not saying I haven't appreciated the many seasons of great performances, thrilling conflicts, and monsterous humans, and of course the zombies. It is just wearing very thin in this last season with it broken down in so many release parts etc.

House of the Dragon: 1x09 The Green Council

One of those episodes that may fool the watcher to think nothing much happened. And yet much was said without words... those wonderful complex pivots of intrigue that an episode will be looked back upon.

Viserys the King of peace is dead.
The White Worm begins her role.
Ser Larys expands his role ... feet ahead of what we first thought.
The dagger will play its part in time to come.
The King the Conquerer, an omen of what is to come?

I love the writing for this show as it refuses to simplify and explain using verbal dialog every nuance, every action to an audience focused and invested on this story.

I'm disappointed the finale for this season is nearly upon us, yet I'm impatient for it to arrive. Solid 8/10.

NCIS: 20x04 Leave No Trace

Sadly this show is in free fall. It's been falling for the last couple seasons but this season it's thrown in to top gear and pushed the pedal to the metal. No Gibbs, no Abby (yep, still miss Abby big time). I've been with the team from the very beginning, and loved coming home to watch the show.

Now, it's become a chore. Jeeze, it's been 20 seasons... I doubt I can make it half way through this season. I could only give this ep a rating of 4.

[How can this episode already have several ratings for it? - original post Oct 10]

[Review]

What a ride! Hail the Black Queen!

Honour, allegiances, and common sense still become clear in the rising tide of war. The intentional overcome by the accidental rage which more than often starts most wars.

Excellent writing, direction, performances. Every aspect of this show drips high fantasy for adults and for those that don't need everything to be spelt out to them as an audience.

Now this sudden recall of the realisation of the long anticipation between the early seasons of GoT is overshadowing the brilliance of this finale. No matter, I'll just rewatch it!

Thanks cast and crew for this splendid Season 1. And restoring the hope there can still be in Quality entertainment coming to an expecting audience and that all is not lost. 10

House of the Dragon: 1x08 The Lord of the Tides

Wow. Just... Wow!

This episode had me hooked from the first moment to fading out to the end credits. I needed to force myself to blink as my eyes were drying out.

Stellar performances and exceptional writing. It had its cutting moments, family moments you wish your family can have, and not have.

Just watch the damn episode - brilliant
Thank you cast and crew, I truly hope for many awards coming your way. 10

House of the Dragon: 1x07 Driftmark

[I do not believe the rating on this episode... Currently 62%. I do believe we may be having some RoP trolls coming past and dropping bad rating numbers.]

That said, holy crap! What an episode!
We thought there were family issues in GoT... They had Nothing on their ancestors.

Playdates were never so brutal.
Not much can be said about this episode, it has to be seen. I don't want to give any spoilers either. The arc was well done, complex, and makes you wonder, what was planned and who planned what portions and to what was contrived to it's fullness or was extra added unbeknownst to those planning?

The plot thickens and the primary actors played their parts exceptionally well. Never a dull moment in Westeros that's for sure!

There was a hint of Jon Snow coming through where he obviously got that trait. I hope you pick up that within this episode... 9/10

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: 1x06 Udûn

Dear oh dear... I read these comments and reviews and honestly I wonder if I'm watching the same show.

Has people's taste and understanding of quality in entertainment been pummeled over time to put the bar so low now that this show is being gushed over the way some people are doing?

There is no consistency, the compositing is atrocious, there are some major modelling issues that should have been fixed in post. Continuity is appalling. The Galadriel thing is just monsterous. The acting and writing is truly some of the worst I've seen in such a huge budgeted show.

I was in moments of out loud laughing at the absurdity, or in silence with jaw dropped in gross astonishment. Then forehead in hand with vocal groans pain.

The closing scene was complete nonsense. That would be endgame for any living flesh. Alas we know there is a main survivor that would be an impossibility. 2/10

Resident Alien: 2x16 I Believe in Aliens

How do they do this?!
This being the finale to season 2 does it again with 'out of this world' writing, not only the comedy level, but plot and arc just smashes everything else being developed closer to this genre!

The writer, Chris Sheridan, in my personal opinion is doing his best work in this show. And really how could he not with a cast like this. Each character fits the role perfectly and plays of each other so well.

And to top it off, it isn't just a 'comedy' but brings a fantastic platter of characters that have deep well crafted stories of their own giving the audience some beautiful moments of community, bottomless friendships that are endless in giving.

I really love this show and each actor, you can tell, loves this show.

Please don't make the wait between this season and Season 3 too long. Otherwise I'll have to get my alien family to knock on Your door! 9/10

Resident Alien: 2x15 Best of Enemies

I love this show...
My daughter and I 'distance' watch this show and we enjoy every moment.
There is so much to this show and well written using the strengths of each character. Amazing fun, great humour, some dark humour and it's fun to watch Harry become more invested in humans.

Continuity of the story arcs are well done too, tieing everything together in a neat tight bundle.

I wish 42 was able to return. Hilarious!

House of the Dragon: 1x06 The Princess and the Queen

Welcome to the two new actors... probably not the best episode to form a proper opinion of their skills as actors, but the episode itself had a lot going on and it was hard enough who was who and why just two actors needed to be changed and yet Ser Christon was his young looking self. And all those kids... are we suppose to keep track of them all? Such a shame Daemon's new wife (for this episode) had a problem, such a beauty.

We have a Dragon population explosion and there are a number of very interesting gaming pieces ahead methinks, for the throne. I'm not really sure why they chose to fast track the prestory into 5 episodes rather than extend the story over the first season. They must have their reasons I guess and we will know soon enough, but it better be a good reason.

We shall see how next week goes...I did enjoy this episode. Gave it a 7/10.

NCIS

The start of season 20 along with the end of 19 is going down hill fast. Probably best to bow out gracefully now and wind this up while it's still reasonably watched.

Season 20 should be the last and even make it a 13 episode season.

NCIS: 20x01 A Family Matter (I)

Oh dear... It's continuing the slip, gaining momentum downward. Perhaps it's time to wind this up before it gets really stinky. Even calling it at S20, episode 13 would keep some of the reputation this show once had.

House of the Dragon: 1x05 We Light the Way

The Game continues to play out.
Matt Smith steals the win again in his short but impacting scenes.

The hearts and minds of men will always be manipulated, played by the women with grace and expertise.

I would only say about these first 5 episodes, even though I appreciate these are merely a preface to the main arc of this series, I think it could have played quite comfortably throughout all of this first season.

It's sad to say goodbye to Milly Alcock in this episode. Well done dear lady. Well played.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: 1x04 The Great Wave

Nope.
Has Galadriel got bad breath or is she that into ventriloquism? Why is she always talking through clenched mouth. Where is the acting in these people?

Why does it seem like this is the first job everyone got in this show Including the crew? So much disappointment even from the CGI and compositing is just horrendous. It just keeps getting worse with each episode.

The only positive of the crew I can give is to Bear McCreary for the music which at least doesn't suck as bad as the acting, writing, direction, production, costumes and most everything else in this mess.

The only actor to get any nod from me is the one that has been told to act like Bronn from GoT.

I was going to try and forge ahead to the end of the season, but this episode slapped me around the face too many times with a stinky wet fish knocking some sense back into my thoughts and reasonings. So I bid farewell and hope you all come out of this gut wrenching mess with some hint of taste so as to recognise a hint of quality in future shows.

House of the Dragon: 1x04 King of the Narrow Sea

A very politics heavy episode but also has a heavy first couple seasons GoT taste.

Quite the conundrum at the end.

Great episode all round. It is good to have interesting and a captivating story to look forward to throughout the season. [Not like that other garbage that is airing at the same time].

House of the Dragon: 1x01 The Heirs of the Dragon

Well the first episode obviously did some initial grounding of the characters and set the scene of what we can somewhat expect from HotD season.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I still can't get past 'Lord Corlys Velaryon' considering in the older times especially they kept in breeding as they didn't want their bloodline tainted. That is well known in the lore.

Back in GoT, Xaro Xhoan Daxos was a trader and fit well in the show, as did other ethnicities depicting different houses and regions. It just doesn't sit in the story well and is a clear token character to get a PoC into the main house. It would have been better to have a Meister role or other primary role but not Targaryen.

I always give new shows 3-4eps to either hook me or push me away, so we'll see what next week brings us.
