The weakest episode of a really strong season. This felt like the episodes of the few Seasons
"Whatever you do, do not drink the Whiskey at the Watergate." LOL
Also, the song at the end was genius. Watched all the credits because of it.
Tried to Shazam it, but no result, guess it was written for the show specifically.
Another great episode.
Solid first episode. Well made, entertaining and good cast. And best of all, there are only 5 episodes.
Great "B" plot, but the "A" story was a bit much.
You think after a 2yr hiatus they'd start it off with previously on geez :confounded:
This episode had truly terrible guests. Chris Sununu has zero integrity and is clearly not as sane as whoever recommended him to Bill claimed; extremely partisan and lacking perspective. Winsome Sears seems like a typical gun-toting Christian Republican and Chris Kirchick seems like just an uninformed right-wing journalist.
The panel discussion talking about trans people was especially gross and rife with bigotry and ignorance. The fact that Kirchick cited the UK as "not a right wing country" when we've literally had a right-wing government for over a decade now, to say nothing of the racism-fuelled referendum driven by a hard right party and right-wing papers.
The only good thing about this episode was the New Rule about atheism, which seems to be the only topic Bill remains reliably good on these days.
Hey, this was a super fun sequel to a great movie of my childhood. I also thought the evil monster designs were fun and menacing but not too scary. The reveal that "muffin girl" was the baby from the movie caught me off guard. I thought it would be the redhead night. Yes, its a silly fantasy show and I am glad the writers stuck to that formula instead of turning it into something it wasn't 34 years ago.
I loved this! I understand it has its flaws, but it's light-hearted and a great nod to the source material. I love the team-up, it feels forced, but the characters work well together. Shout out to Boorman! A Legend. Dove grew on me very fast, and I feel like there is more to her than we know. While I enjoyed Airk, I'm glad he's the one who got kidnapped. And the guard dying was so dry, I loved it. I expected him to perish, and he did only a few seconds after I said it out loud.
Commenting to say I wish they wouldn't reinforce this idea that Ellie is not feminine just because she's tough and bold, especially when people keep criticizing the actress because she's not conventional. Your lead character is a badass young girl, less of the stereotypes!
This episode demonstrates what :asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol:Frasier:asterisk_symbol::asterisk_symbol: was always best at: the squabbling and egotistical one-upmanship he and Niles can’t resist getting caught up in.
... to their inevitable embarrassment of course.
Eleanor and Chidi are together for the sake of Politically Correctness. That is about it, they really have no chemistry.
OMG what utter crap… Bad acting and jokes that aren’t funny unless you are completely brain dead. What a shame.
The new kids are awful. They aren't interesting, cannot act and have been given more of a late eighties vibe than mid-nineties. The nostalgia got me though. I'll keep watching for old cast appearances.
Weak season opener. Andrew Sullivan is lucky he's friends with Bill because his contributions are frequently shitty takes and seem to be said purely to be snarky or bitchy.
First 30 mins boring af, complete waste of time (rewatched as literally fell asleep the first time - at 3x speed, hadn't missed a thing) - 2/10.
The rest of it was good, 7/10, overall 5/10.
Good guests though Bill continues to be the weakest thing about his show these days. He's basically the grouchy old Boomer stereotype, constantly slagging off the "woke" younger generations; it's rather tedious as a source of humour. At least that one guy in the audience with the overly loud laugh seems to enjoy it every week.
I could listen to those ILM guys for hours even though I already know much of it. Having George himself in it ? I'm stoked.
Lots of potential and a striking style, but there just wasn’t enough time for anything to sink in, from the protagonist’s inner conflict to his relationship with Misa to the twist of the prophecy to his fall. You could just not, man! Misa is healed! Is it more dark to renege on a deal or honor it abs join the fascist? It’s an anticlimactic short to end an overall vivid series.
I'm so tired of this portrayal of the relationship between Elizabeth and Thomas. Instead of repeatedly showing him sexually abuse her, they should've just alluded to it. Instead of playing romantic music during their scenes, they should have portrayed it as creepy as it was in real life. If they wanted to show how charming abusers often can be, they shouldn't do it in a way that makes the audience feel like they condone his behaviour.
This season switched the show from alternate history to science fiction, with artificial gravity oversized space ship with touchscreens. Still no cell phones.
The writing has gone to crap, everyone is brilliant and Marty isn’t very bright. 4/10
The wins are good, but the whole show is too boring and gosh the mess at the end
So nice glad I start watching it. Music I insane and also weird in a good way :D.
I have no idea what is going on in this episode.
The Emperor's ambassador was one of the best characters. So sad to see him go :(
An outstandingly accurate account of the months leading up to the infamous 2016 U.S. Presidential election, as well as the immediate days & weeks following the results.
This cast is full of top-tier, A-list talent — and everyone turns in a performance that could possibly be the best work of their respective careers. Gleeson’s not going for any sort of “mimicry” or “impression,” because his version of Trump isn’t looking for audience laughter. There are brief moments where you’re not actually sure if you’re seeing Gleeson or the actual loser POTUS himself (1 term POTUS might I add; only the worst presidents in US history fail to win re-election, but I digress...).
James Comey & Andrew McCabe, NO MATTER HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THEM, dedicated their entire careers in the FBI and that hard work paid off. They never let an ounce of personal bias or political leanings change the way they approached their decades-long careers in the FBI.
You can still be angry if you want and tell yourself that James Comey’s poor decisions before the 2016 election cost Hillary Clinton the White House, and I would probably agree a little bit to be honest....however, if you’re not watching this amazing 2 part mini-series out of some sort of misplaced belief that it will only cover events you already know about & don’t need them in your face again, TO THAT I SAY WATCH IT ANYWAY BECAUSE THERE’S QUITE A BIT THE AVERAGE AMERICAN VOTER DOESN’T KNOW ABOUT THE SPECIFICS OF THIS STORY.
Thank me later :)
Jeff Daniels is a revelation, as always. Scoot McNary shows up briefly but his scenes are the ones that really stuck with me. “Doug Stamper” plays Andrew McCabe — which is one of the greatest casting choices since, like, ever. Sally Yates is played by Holly Hunter, and like I mentioned: every face you see besides the Russians (who unquestionably meddled in the 2016 election w/ significant success in their slandering of Hillary Clinton on social media) I think you’ll have an easier time listing actors you don’t recognize.
To be clear: it’s not good BECAUSE you recognize so many great actors — this little special mini-series turned out this great for a number of reasons, but of course a big factor was having a deep bench of talent ready to step up for even minor roles and knock each scene out of the park.
If you watch this mini-series, (and pay attention! No looking at your phone or computer like a jackass pls), and STILL don’t think that James Comey’s decisions were ones you would’ve handled immensely better, I’d be eager to hear you out before pointing you to a psychiatrist to treat the delusions of grandeur in your unhealthy mind.
If you watch this and think it was fine, but nothing TOO awesome or whatever, that’s okay too! That’s how I feel, really. It’s not that I think this is something that you can re-watch a lot & always enjoy; I just think it’s so well made that the subject matter is far too important for most Americans to overlook/ignore, hence the enthusiasm on display.
Anyway, no matter which end of the political spectrum you lean towards, I hope you all enjoy this. Full disclosure, however, there are NOT “fine people on both sides” in this story. There are the American Patriots who work for the DoJ & FBI etc., and then there is a sleazy cabal of inbred D-level reality TV star family members + some hack lawyers who follow the impeached, 1-term, most-popular-vote-losing-POTUS-candidate-ever like they worship the cheap ground he walks on.
If you think this story is too dramatic to have really taken place — read McCabe’s book. FBI agents are trained to immediately catalogue every conversation of potential relevance VERBATIM the moment the talk ends & those filed away notes are kept in a safe at HQ. McCabe & Comey did a hell of a job capturing the exact words of the soon-to-be-unemployed & bankruptcy POTUS, and I’m grateful we had those heroic men running the Bureau at the time.
Go go. Watch it. And if you think it’s just a bunch of nonsense created by the “fake media” in an attempt to ruin Trump’s image — then I think you should honestly ask yourself what parts of his image are worth acknowledging or giving credit? I’ll wait...
Superb - quirky, stylish and smart, just what I've come to expect from Fargo.
Could do without the toilet humour, but that's about the only thing that lets it down.
