Oh, how awful what happened to Danny. I already felt sorry for him for being dumped by Julie, since he apparently really likes her. But when he gets home and hears his parents arguing about the police, about the escape, you can’t even imagine what his head is like. From the information we have, Angie has been on the run with Nick and their son for 18 years (Danny is 19). So for 18 years, his reality has been this: always moving, feeling afraid of seeing his parents going to jail, listening to their discussions about it. I am very sorry that he thought that the only way out of this life was death. Good thing Angie found him soon and took him to the hospital. But now things are bound to get more complicated, as he’s revealed to Mona that his real name is Tyler.
Susan thinking Julie was at the motel, when the poor thing was actually in the library. And I laugh out loud when Susan sees through the window that it’s Bree who’s at the motel with Karl. The scene of both of them in defense class was priceless, I laughed too hard with Susan choking Bree, with the latter defending herself. And the best thing about this arc is that it has already been resolved and in the friendliest way possible. It would be annoying if Susan got angry and broke up with Bree over it. Fortunately, she understands that Bree is happy and has had real feelings for him. Besides, it’s her choice, she knows the ins and outs of officially getting involved with a man like Karl. So whether it’s a mistake or not, it’s up to her to move on. BTW: Susan talking about Karl’s “surprises” on anniversaries... My God, he devalued her too much, how could he?
I can’t stand against Lynette in this storyline and I think both Carlos and Gaby are INDEFENSABLE. It is a fact that Lynn is not 100% correct, because she did omit her pregnancy. Only it wasn’t on a whim, it wasn’t with the intention of harming them. Carlos had exposed her the moment he offered the promotion that he wouldn’t give it to another woman because she was pregnant and he didn’t want it to interfere with her job. Lynette was fearful from there. Also, as is well known, she is the only income of a large family. Tom is not working and they have four children at home, with TWO more on the way. A salary increase for a person in these conditions is tempting. So I understand her reasons, even if it’s wrong. Furthermore, Lynette proved her worth. Even pregnant and silent, she did not harm the company. She was always helpful – including, in her words, “sold her dignity” when Carlos asked her to wear a low-cut outfit to get some men to do business with him. That’s why I get angry when he tries to smother her and manipulate her into resigning. He put a pregnant woman in a tiny room and treated her with absolute contempt and disdain.
I am even more disgusted when it is revealed that this mistreatment came from Gaby. This is absolutely ridiculous. They’ve known each other for years, they both know how things are going at the Scavo house because Lynette shares it with her friends. And besides, you can put in the balance exactly what Gaby and Carlos have been through for the last five years. Gaby having to fight alone to take care of a blind husband and two children, couldn’t she put herself in her friend’s shoes? Anyway, Lynette was within her right to seek a lawyer, what Carlos is doing is totally illegal. He didn’t have to be angry. Their reconciliation could come even with this subpoena, why not? But I think that’s how things work with those who have some power. They think they can do what they want and no one can lift a finger to antagonize them. Seriously, I’m disappointed. And to think that Carlos was all charitable wanting to do good, he transformed again and seems to be even worse than at the beginning.
Katherine has now reached the height of madness herself. Intercepting a six-year-old to put shit in his head about his mother, that she sucks, that she’s mean... Another indefensible thing. Again, I feel so sorry when Mike confronts her and says that she never meant anything to him, that he always thought about Susan when he was with her, because that’s too heavy. And like it or not, as I’ve said before, he eluded and fed her hopes and desires. However, I also think she needed a reality check to get over it. Too bad it only made it worse. She stabbed herself and called for help, with the clear intention of incriminating Mike, since he touched the knife, his fingerprints are there. Katherine urgently needs help.
Susan and Bob treated this case of the shooting of Katherine as a very small thing, they could have easily won if they had brought Bree as a witness, since Katherine was spying on the house and Susan and Julie had every reason to be scared by that move. Anyway I like these scenes, I think that judge is pretty crazy with these sentences. And I LOVED SO MUCH that Katherine ended up having to pick up trash on the road too, after trying to gloat over Susan. Then one moment she accepts defeat, and the next she’s bragging because she had sex with Mike five times in one day. Oh God.
Susan trying to beat that record was funny. She even left school early so she could take Mike to bed again. She almost made it. And check it out... Mike proved once again that he was TERRIBLE and an asshole to Katherine the entire time. They had nothing in common, they didn’t even have anything to talk about, what kept the relationship going was sex. And yet he decided to move into her house, feeding her hopes. And even after seeing that what she felt was real and that she wanted a commitment, he decided to ask her to marry him. FUCK... I love Mike, but that’s indefensible. Katherine is as she is today, he is 90% to blame. I think she has a small part because she knew he didn’t reciprocate, but he’s a lot more responsible...
I can’t help but laugh when Gaby confesses to the priest about bribing her daughter to go to Catholic school, and keeps throwing him the money. And that moment of the hug, when she took the check out of his clothes without him realizing it? Well, I just don’t think the strings she pulled were bad about the guy who was going to be sent to Florida, because he wanted the promotion and didn’t have a problem making the move. Because if it was a Lynette-type case, the guy with his whole life in Fairview and all, that would be the height of selfishness.
Lynette made a very grotesque mistake by hiding this pregnancy for so long. She could have gone to Carlos sooner, even if she had lied a little bit, but I think she would have saved it there. Anyway, both Carlos and Gaby were absolutely assholes. Gaby didn’t even seem like a longtime friend when she came out judging Lynette when she saw her pregnant belly. And Carlos, I have no words. He was really unrecognizable, his tone, his disdain. As if Lynette were any one. Guys, wasn’t he the one who wanted to do things differently? Wasn’t he the one who didn’t want to be petty anymore and get carried away by small things? Wasn’t he the one who was all charitable after he’d regained his sight? Is it impossible for Carlos to analyze the situation as a whole?
Well, Lynette is the ONLY one who works at the Scavo house, she is their source of income since now there is no restaurant and Tom is studying. You can clearly see the reason for accepting the promotion and the higher salary. If it was Carlos or even Gaby, who has already committed so many selfish acts throughout the show, they would do the same or worse. Anyway, he can’t fire Lynertte (it’s even weird, it seems he has something against women who get pregnant) and he can’t force her to take that promotion.
Finally, Bree’s arc in this episode was very deep and touching. The opening moments, with Karl totally despising the opera in front of a Bree excited by what they’d just seen. Then she comes home and Orson is there, listening to the same opera that she had just seen with someone else. On the one hand, a man who awakens passion in her and makes her feel things she has never felt before, but a brute who neither admires nor values the same things. On the other, a man with the same tastes, but who keeps her trapped in a marriage she no longer wants.
I don’t think it’s a question of giving Orson a “second chance”, because he already had it. When he started stealing, he started to embarrass Bree, she tried to go with him to a psychologist, to go to therapy, he said he wanted to hurt her (no reason). She thought he had changed, so he ordered her to sell the company, and even sent a lady to an asylum to cover up his thefts and lies. He got the second chance and threw it away. Bree has to get out of this because she can do better. Orson was once very good to her and that’s undeniable. But that’s over and it’s his fault.
Angie was wonderful covering for Bree, even though she doesn’t agree with what she does. I loved her faces and mouths when she saw Bree and Karl’s shadow while making out.
Finally, we have this shocking final scene. Julie’s strangler strikes again and now everything definitely points to Nick, who was annoyed when he saw that the girl was nearby and perhaps overheard his conversation on the phone.
Susan doesn’t have much luck with anything at all, it’s impressive. First the detectives downplaying the allegation she made against Katherine – particularly I think they could have at least compromised to interrogate her and verify an alibi. And then, the woman who volunteers to segment things is someone who hates her deeply. I laughed too hard when Susan and Mike saw Denise and Katherine hugging. And then Susan almost begging Denise to forget the feud and put the grudge aside. It’s easy to talk when you’re not the victim, right? I find this prison moment so amusing, Denise’s satisfaction with that laugh is contagious. I think she just put her in jail at the police station to get even, or will Susan be prosecuted for not reporting this to the police? Wouldn’t Katherine have committed the same crime then, even though she was the victim of the shooting?
How can you not love Angie? She’s all sincere, she’s just a charm. I like that and of course Bree would be uncomfortable. Bree ALWAYS says she hates public displays of emotions, whatever they are. Anyway, it was very wrong for her to ask for the recipe telling a lie, saying that she would make lunch for a friend, with plans to serve food at a big event, even after Angie asked not to pass it on... Angie was very direct and demanded that Bree tell me the reason for not liking her, I liked that. I love that they were both very honest and Bree even opened up about marrying Orson, which is pretty unheard of. Nice that she decided to give Angie the job. They can be very successful, as friends and in the work environment.
Gaby is almost a saint, because it takes a lot of patience to deal with what Juanita does. As frustrated as she is, she doesn’t have to act like that... And Carlos never sees Gaby’s side of things. She talks, she’s sincere, and he insists on the mistake... Anyway, I liked this help from Ivana and I LOVED Gaby running after her in someone else’s house to help Juanita. It was great of her cleaning the floor. Finally Carlos understood that not everything Gaby is capable of teaching, and that this frustration they are both feeling is only causing a rupture in the mother-daughter relationship. Gaby crying because she won’t be able to keep the maid was very funny!!!
Julie is different, but I don’t think these changes that she is experiencing are meaningless. As she said: she grew up, and will make mistakes. Besides, it’s much more than clear that she had feelings for Nick, she just broke up with him because he was married and living in front of her. That’s why she’s tending to believe that what he says, that he really loves her, is true. And so she refuses to consider the possibility that he may have strangled her. When feelings are involved, no matter how sensible a person is, they tend to become more irrational – see Katherine who is extremely disturbed by her love for Mike. Lynette did it right, Nick was abusive and threatening when he said she would regret it if she said anything, and I LOVED SO MUCH that she wasn’t intimidated. Very nice of her and Tom telling Julie that they saw her grow up and consider her like a daughter.
Plus Angie told Nick that she LIED when she told the police he spent all night with her... So he was out and she doesn’t know where. She’s not stupid or anything, she’s known about the affair for a long time. Queen indeed. And the punch she gave him in the face? It was well done. He deserved it.
Karl is so..... The moment he gave Bree the brooch was so cute, only to find out later that he’d given it to Susan and stolen it from her out of the blue. Susan and Julie saying that he made the biggest show with screaming for her having “lost” this object... Well, the proposal was a surprise, but the feelings were already obvious, especially on Bree’s part. She fell in love with him easily. And she’s absolutely right to be afraid to take that step, since Karl is Karl and there’s a lot in the balance, like Susan’s friendship, that she could lose. Anyway, I thought the scene of Bree trying to get some information from Susan was cool, and the latter feeling good for saying good things about him, since it’s always the opposite.
Of course Orson had to look for the store to “surprise” Bree. I really hate this guy and this is irreversible. As good as he means, I never forget the fact that Bree is still stuck in this marriage because of his blackmail. This cannot be erased or removed. So it’s no use trying to surprise her, buy things, behave like a good husband, if marriage is already a lie and he won’t let her go.
Katherine using blackmail too, to hook Mike. But no one can deny that the confrontation with Susan in the bedroom and bathroom was amazingly funny. Katherine running desperate to blow out the candles, hide the drink, throwing the petals in the toilet, and Susan screaming for Mike. Then the two of them fall into the bathtub. But look, someone had to intercede. They might as well call Dylan back so she can take care of her mother, take some action, because her imbalance is getting worse and worse. She even thought Angie was a “partner in crime” just for saying that Mike really liked her... And speaking of Angie, I liked that she decided to warn Susan about these wild plans. And she still planted this doubt, about the possibility that it was Katherine who attacked Julie! I immediately discard it because from what little we saw of the attacker in the first episode, when he appears running after dropping her down, he looks very much like a man. However, this addendum Angie made about Julie being attacked by mistake, about the target being Susan, is interesting.
Still about Angie, she remains mysterious and intriguing in this mystery. A scar. An escape of years. Prepaid cell phone to talk to her mother, with whom she doesn’t have much contact precisely because she leads a life without roots. I’m curious to see how this all ties together and where it leads.
I laughed so hard with Gaby and Carlos cringing during Juanita’s performance, after the “fuck” she let out. Well, I don’t even think Gaby was angry with that director for insinuations that she’s not a good mother, but for the exaggeration of punishments. After all, she established something radical in my view. Handwritten letter to each of the colleagues and family members who were present. Cut of her participation in this play. And we know that both Juanita and Gaby would continue to be publicly judged over this incident for who knows how long. If in the last episode Laura boycotted Gaby because of a joke made by the girls, imagine in that situation? So that additional punishment of “cleaning the cafeteria” was greatly exaggerated. Juanita is absolutely sassy and Gaby has a lot of patience. But her anger is plausible, given that she was taken out of the school out of the blue when she could have served her detentions. She had her whole routine changed... BTW: I die when Juanita reveals that her physical education class was ironing.
Finally, we have this Lynette and Tom plot. For a brief moment I thought Tom was behaving like this for the reasons Lynette gave: wanting to become popular, wanting to have fun like a big boy when he’s older (his own words). In other words, another effect of the midlife crisis he has. Fortunately that wasn’t it... There was a bigger reason. And both are wrong. Both Tom for the glue and Lynette for the lie. By now she should have told Carlos. It should have happened as I suggested in the first few episodes, she should have gone to him and told him that she had suddenly discovered the pregnancy. She could even make up that even Tom wasn’t aware, that she went straight to Carlos. Now the people are noticing that she is getting chubby, she cannot escape it anymore.
It’s so unfair how Gaby is judged by other mothers because of a silly thing in her house... No mother stays 24 hours watching carefully what their child is doing, even more when they are calmly playing in their room. And children are mischievous, even more so when they are hyperactive. Anyway... Gaby is a good mother to the girls and she doesn’t have to prove anything to these idlers who are snooping around in other people’s lives. But I loved so much that she managed to persuade the children to go to the party, that scene in the square was awesome. And of course, the party sequences were great. The monkey killing the clown was too much, I laughed out loud. Then the clown being taken by ambulance!!! And I really love the dialogue that Gaby has with Carlos, him claiming that Celia played dead when the mess started. They could show more of her, she’s so faded.
I find these scenes of Bree with the motel maid very impressive. I find their dialogues sensational and what the woman says, about having this fun now and the consequences coming later, is very reflective. However, I can’t EVER agree with her saying that Orson is a good man just because she heard him say he did the shopping for Bree. He was a different person... Five years ago. When Bree was successful, he transformed. Nothing happens in their marriage that isn’t common, it’s just that it’s usually the man who works outside the home, who’s always busy (at least here on the show)... With the roles reversed, Orson blackmailed Bree into getting a job, stole from friends and wife, said it was to hurt her, tried to force her to sell her company. This is not characteristic of a good man. I understand Bree feeling guilty, because she’s not a bad person. She’s a Christian, she knows that’s wrong. It’s understandable. But she tried. She tried to get Orson to change that behavior and when she saw that it wasn’t going to work anymore, she asked for a divorce, exposed that she didn’t feel love for him anymore. And he AGAIN resorted to blackmail to keep her in the marriage. She feels guilty because she is good. But Orson is no good and definitely doesn’t deserve her to feel guilty about anything.
Roy is too retrograde, and too sexist. Lynette was the one who hired him and is the one who will pay for the services he does, since she is the only one working in the house. It was ridiculous of him calling Tom and asking if he agreed with her decisions etc etc. She wasn’t disrespectful to anyone. On the other hand, I enjoyed the conversation Tom had with him, explaining why Lynette feels the need to control everything and that his duty as a husband is to make her feel safe. Tom has a lot of flaws and makes a lot of mistakes, that’s being human. But he gets a lot of other things right.
Katherine shamelessly making those faces and mouths to Mike during the meeting made me laugh so much, as did Julie handing Susan the gun at the moment she was scared. Katherine, on the other hand, doesn’t even know how to lie, doing neighborhood surveillance around someone’s house? Hearing them both talking (because she sure did) and still being silent? Tell another. She was lucky that the shot was grazed, she didn’t need an ambulance or anything. Angie showed her most mysterious and manipulative side to get what she wanted and get rid of it. She was very lucky. The only problem is that she fueled even more Katherine’s paranoia that Mike is crazy about her...
And what about Nick wanting to make Danny tell Angie about the affair? He’s very pathetic. Angie deserves better!
From the first episode of the season, it’s clear that Katherine is unbalanced. And as time goes on, her situation worsens. She’s leaning out windows to see how Mike and Susan’s life is going as a couple, and thinks she’s watching a football game with him, standing outside the house... She believes he’s going to dump Susan when Julie’s situation improves. fuck. Not to mention what she did afterwards, it was ABSURD for her to destroy the wedding cake that Bree was HIRED to make during the ceremony in question. She put the company’s entire reputation at risk. And all on a whim. She was unbearable. But I feel very sorry. I really like that Bree shows this concern and advises her to be treated, she fires her so she realizes she needs help... Yes, she’s being a friend. And unlike most, as much as she is unbearable, I don’t hate this plot. Katherine is experiencing a nervous breakdown.
John is very obvious... His approach to Ana was just about making Gaby jealous. He never got over her... The love he felt and feels for her is really strong, it was very real. The moment Ana caught their kiss and Gaby ran after her was very tense. But I loved that she was absolutely honest, explained the affair, that people got hurt, and talked about keeping that photograph at home. That’s why Ana didn’t say anything. Because she does care, and she saw honesty in Gaby’s words. Besides, she wouldn’t gain anything by telling her about the kiss, it would only bring conflict and disruption to the family. BTW: Gaby tore up the photo and gave it a full stop. I hope John understands this once and for all and that he doesn’t show up again, despite being handsome.
Carlos believing in silicone and Lynette thinking he was talking about the pregnancy. I loved this exchange, she almost accidentally revealed that it was babies. But stopping to analyze this storyline again now, what an asshole Carlos was! Using Lynette as a “bait” to get a job done was disgusting. Later, in the conversation with Tom, I think it’s cute that he says he doesn’t expect perfection from her, because he’s not perfect either. But putting the fact that she doesn’t have big breasts as an “imperfection” kind of put an end to that statement, didn’t it? That’s not an imperfection... They are beautiful together, but that line was unnecessary, he could have used words better. In addition: I thought it was great Lynette feeling powerful.
Susan tearing apart Julie’s room and reading her diary... I’m glad Julie woke up soon and they already had this “sincere” conversation. I don’t think what Julie says is bad, about Susan seeing her as a perfect girl and her not being that, about growing up, about making mistakes. This is natural. But I don’t miss Susan’s point when she says that Julie has seen up close what cheating can do. We know that Julie is interested in older men, but it was really inconsequential that she decided to get involved with a married man just because she was lonely. Doesn’t look like her...
About Nick, the hint was clear when he told Julie in the first episode of the season, that Danny was little for her. In this one, with Andrew saying that the guy was married (something that you could already conclude because Julie had told Lynette that her relationship with the guy was “complicated” and that’s why it was secret), and with the focus on Nick talking to younger girls at the party... It wasn’t hard to kill the riddle. The only thing left now is to understand if he was the one who tried to kill her. I don’t think so, because this family already has a mystery of its own and they are on the run. I think it would be risky for Nick to do something of this magnitude just because he was dumped by her. The Bolens run away from attention and this whole case attracted attention to them – and they don’t even know yet that Nick had a romantic relationship with the victim. We’ll see.
John Rowland, with each appearance he is hotter and more handsome. And he did well in life... He was already prestigious in the last appearance, engaged to a woman heiress of a hotel chain, and now he owns a restaurant. Who would have thought, right? He promised Gaby they would have a good life and he managed to do that for himself – I just wish they had talked about his son, the last time he showed up his wife was pregnant. Anyway, about this plot, I find Carlos’ faces and mouths funny during their first meeting, even more so when he sees Gaby letting her hair down.
Ana went to look for John because she was interested in him, it’s on her face, and it’s still going to pay off. And I really loved Gaby telling Carlos that if anyone didn’t pass a “test”, it was him, for distrusting her... She has already redeemed herself a lot for having jumped the fence. I don’t think it’s going to happen again between her and John, because she’s doing really well in her marriage, with the girls and all. But this moment when she looks at the photo again shows that the feeling was very real... I think it’s normal to get a little “shaken” like that when you come across someone who meant so much...
My God, Bree made Candace break her nose out of jealousy of Karl. I laugh my ass off at this fall she takes with Orson in the middle of the dance floor. And Orson thinking she did it because she still likes him... I can only laugh. And the most ironic thing about it all is that his words only made one thing clear in Bree’s head: she’s in love with Karl. “Only a woman in love would do that.” Karl was mean to date another woman. If it was just a case of going to the club, the restaurant and such... But they were planning to go to a motel. Bree disgusted by that was funny. I like those moments of both, they work great together.
It was WONDERFUL the scene that Lynette and Tom reveal to their children about their pregnancy. Porter giving them the biggest moral lesson about Tom having to drop out of college and Lynette quitting her job was so funny. Reversed roles. About this promotion that Carlos gave her, I think she could have been honest with him...she could have said right away that she couldn’t accept it. So I’m hoping she doesn’t take too long to tell. As she said, she can “prove her worth” within this new role and then come to him and say that she’s just found out she’s pregnant and is already advanced – that’s not that uncommon. Because if he finds out by chance, I think it will be complicated. Anyway, Tom drinking bottles of wine for Lynn was great, he got drunk!
Finally, we have this Susan plot. On the one hand, a mother is capable of doing anything to protect her children and this has happened in the series before. When Andrew ran over Mama Solis, Bree protected him. When Lynette found the pictures of the kids in Art’s basement, she got Karen to spread the word that he was a pedophile — and later regretted it, though he did show his claws after his sister’s death and confirmed between the lines that she was right. And now, Susan with Danny... On the one hand, it bothers me that she clearly states that he’s guilty, that she sees in his eyes that he’s a monster... But on the other hand, you can understand the anger and frustration when she sees him having a good time fixing his car while Julie is hospitalized after an attempted murder, and he’s a suspect. It may have been exaggerated what she did to him, lowering the car, nearly crushing him. But I take this “maternal” part into consideration. Because it exists.
At least when she learned he was being cleared of that suspicion, Susan tried to lend Angie a helping hand after the riot people had made on their property. Redeeming mistakes is essential. Bad is when the person is proud and doesn’t recognize that they were wrong, which is not the case for them.
Now, about the Bolen: we find out that their name isn’t really that and they’ve been on the run for a LONG time. For what reason?
Those opening scenes with Karen screaming and it being played over and over again was really funny. I feel sorry for Julie, in addition to being strangled, she was still unconscious all night outside the house. Too brutal what they did to her and I can’t understand. Julie has always been very dear to everyone and is a wonderful, charismatic, caring person... It’s impossible to imagine who would be capable of committing such an act, trying to take her life like that, and for what reason.
Since all suspicions fall on Danny and it’s the beginning of the season, we can rule him out. I don’t think he would be able to, I see sincerity when he says he likes her and wouldn’t have done something like that. If the family is to be suspected, the strangest is Nick, the father. It’s worth remembering that he blatantly hit on her in the last episode and we know that Julie has no problem getting involved with older guys. Also, Lynette’s information about the relationship being “complicated” can be applied here, since Nick is married, it complicates things... I just know that I felt sorry for Danny being arrested, I hope they don’t rule out the possibility of having caught the wrong guy and continue the investigation from the outside.
Angie, by the way, was pretty crazy telling Ana to lie and give Danny an alibi. Too risky, because she’s a third party, she’s an outsider... If they need to protect themselves, they could have come up with something between themselves. And Ana was also super inconsequential, deciding to wind it up. Lying just to keep Danny interested? What interest? He’s already made it clear that he’s not interested in her. Anyway, I love the advice Gaby gave to get a man to eat out of her hand – I die at Carlos’ reaction when he hears these things she did. Anyway, I laughed a lot with Gaby discovering Ana’s lie when climbing the trellis and taking that fall, and she did very well in calling the police to tell the truth. The crime committed on the street was too serious to overlook Ana’s irresponsibility. BTW: the guy who gave Juanita and Celia the biggest scare by reappearing and asking about the “gems”. LOVED IT.
Sometimes Susan uses very mean words when she’s angry, like when she accused Lynette of being a “traitor”. Now, Julie’s secret was Julie’s, she should tell, it’s not Lynette’s job to do that even more considering she was asked to keep quiet. But at the same time I understand Susan being on the edge, because in addition to being facing such a serious attack (after all, the person wanted to kill Julie), she also discovered that her daughter was not being transparent. What I love about these characters is that they have a falling out, but then they recognize their mistakes and apologize, like Susan did in this ending.
I really liked that Lynette opened up too, about her own pregnancy, and she even commented on this remote desire to have an abortion. I feel very sorry that she is feeling this way, and I understand it too. It must be very scary to be faced with expecting twins again, over 40, having a whole family to support and being the only one in the house who actually works... Not to mention the guilt she feels for not feeling excited and for still not feeling any love for them. That should tear her apart like hell. Such an internal conflict...
Very significant that moment when Karl asked Bree not to leave him alone and she watched Mike and Susan supporting each other in the hospital hallway. Karl is good for her, she feels happy with him and everyone has that right: to be happy. Hanging out with the other’s ex-husband or ex-boyfriend is so common on Wisteria Lane that it’s even trivialized, so I particularly think it’s outdated to want to impose rules on top of it. Bree’s choice is up to her and Karl alone, so if she wants to, go for it. Susan will have to deal with that when she finds out. By the way, what a timing of Julie waking up momentarily at the moment of the kiss! And Bree all worried, holding the doctor with those questions was funny.
Finally, it’s very clear that Katherine is not right in the head. Last season, including the Season Finale, she was aware that Mike didn’t fully reciprocate the love she felt. And now she’s sure he married Susan out of pity? I didn’t want that for her. Love can be very toxic sometimes...
I can’t be apathetic to Katherine. As much as I think it’s WORSE that she demanded a public apology, because I think that makes the humiliation even more open, I can’t help but feel sorry for her. Folks, feelings are not controllable. It’s not easy for a person to tame a love like that and Katherine was lonely when Mike came into her life. She gave herself to him with open arms and he’s nurtured that desire of hers ever since. He moved in with her and then proposed marriage. Okay, she might have put some pressure on it, talking about it, having MJ talk about it too, but Mike proposed because he wanted to, it’s not like she put a gun to his head and demanded it. If he’d always known he didn’t reciprocate her feelings, if he knew he was still in love with Susan, then why the hell did he decide to take that step with Katherine? I love him, but in this case I think he played with her feelings and that’s just mean.
Also, all the anger she’s feeling is understandable, because they were at the airport packed to Vegas, with a wedding planned, and the next moment Mike disappeared... When he came to her it was just to talk about having reconciled with Susan. Just put yourself in her shoes, how do you digest something like that? It’s worth remembering that, moments before Mike left the airport, Katherine questioned him about his feelings for Susan, she gave him a chance to be honest, and he wasn’t... Now she’s a little unbalanced. That thing of putting on the dress and cooking sauce with it was pretty far-fetched, but it illustrates that she’s not entirely in the right frame of mind – and I’ve always marveled at Dana Delany’s ability to evoke that. Then I’m even more sorry at the moment of the public apology, for the way Mike talks to Katherine. I don’t know, there’s a tone of utter contempt in his words that shouldn’t exist. I think he was apathetic, he knows he’s to blame. He could have tried to talk to her in some other way, and not with “I’m going to drag you out of here by force.” It’s not her fault that he eluded her feelings the way he did.
Even in the midst of this conflict which is very complex, and as upset as I am with Mike, I love that he and Susan have remarried. As Julie said, they were made for each other, and they should never have split up in the first place. Of course I wish the circumstances of this reconciliation and marriage were different, that no one was hurt by their actions... But what to do?
Lynette in the office warning that girl about the cons of being a mother, made the woman cry, poor thing. And boy, I always get goosebumps and shocked when she is 100% indifferent to babies’ heartbeats and tells Tom that she doesn’t love them. I think that’s pretty strong. I totally understand, she’s already saturated, she’s already older, she was refocusing on her career and that was totally unexpected. But it’s worrying, even for her, to feel that way. Felicity Huffman is too divine in this scene, exposing the character’s guilt for the lack of feelings for the children that will be born. Anyway, there’s hope that she and Tom get through this in a healthy way, as has happened so many other times...
Orson makes me laugh. I’m always sickened by his selfishness in the scene where he tells Bree that guilt is a small price to pay to be happy. It doesn’t matter if the wife is happy with the marriage, with his blackmail. The important thing is that he is happy. Oh, fuck you! For him, I don’t empathize and I don’t care that Bree is moving forward in a relationship with Karl. It’s wrong? Maybe, because she’s still legally married. But I don’t feel sorry. And I laugh with her forcing Karl to buy new sheets for the room because she’s disgusted. Then she arranged the meeting with him, “I already changed the sheets and cleaned the bathroom”, it was funny!
Gaby going after Ana at the club: WHAT A SCENE! It might have been a bit of an exaggeration to expose the girl to this humiliation in front of her schoolmates, because we know that this sort of thing is something young people tend not to forget. But it was a wonderful sequence, the people carrying Ana to the stage with their hands was simply priceless. And the clashes with Gaby are good, it’s nice to see her really worried about Ana. She’s not being mean, she’s trying to put her on the right path. And she even ended that feeling of rejection that Ana was feeling, by signing the adoption papers. Now that she will feel officially welcomed, she must behave differently. We’ll see.
Finally, we have the new family. Danny is very handsome. And Angie is AWESOME. Whenever I restart the series, I look forward to getting to this season because of her, the best secondary housewife to come to Wisteria Lane. And their mystery is very intriguing, not only for what they showed on her body, that gigantic scar, but for mixing with this attack that Julie suffered at the end, drawing Danny as a possible suspect. In fact, what a horrible thing. Poor Julie!!!
Lynette and Tom: child-making machine. It was totally unexpected. Tom claiming they’re both old was funny. But the best reaction is Lynette in the office, asking the doctor if he was sure her motion sickness wasn’t a result of cancer. She would rather have cancer again than be pregnant. That’s so Lynette. And the worst thing is that the pregnancy is with twins again... They barely raised Preston and Porter, both of them still continue to give them a headache. And now they are expecting two more at once. Tom will have to let go of that decision to go to college again and look for a job, as Lynn will have to step away from the company. Everything will go back to what it was before.
Orson could have been beaten up by that guy for all the things he did this season. My anger at him only grows. It was very annoying of him convincing himself that Bree hadn’t sent anyone to attack him and telling her he was going to stay, and taking his shirt to her to fix. Fuck, just because she can’t have him beaten doesn’t mean she still wants to persist in this doomed marriage. And it’s entirely Orson’s fault, because Bree really tried... Speaking of her, the scene of Karl demonstrating his desire for her is WONDERFUL. What chemistry! Bree melting all over after the kiss was funny. It would be better if it happened after the divorce, because at this point, if Orson finds out, he can claim she’s cheating...
The “beautiful Ana” making the Scavo boys work on the house. Even Parker had a crush on her. Juanita asking Ana to teach how to make the boys obey!!! Anyway, it didn’t take long and Ana has already shown that she will be a very complicated girl. She’s like a teenage Kayla. The first signs are already there: she spoke in an inappropriate tone with Gaby and then played the victim to Carlos - who, predictably, scolded Gaby for it, just like Tom did with Lynette. It doesn’t matter if Ana spoke thickly, does it? Please... But Gaby doesn’t take any insults, we can expect some clashes then.
Finally, we have the conclusion of Dave’s arc. Man, I always get very tense with Susan’s apprehension from the moment she discovers the truth and tries to hide it. Then that moment of the roadside confrontation, MJ trying to hide, Susan knocked out. And of course, Dave’s final plan, trying to make MJ’s death poetic by having Mike crash his car at the same spot where his wife and daughter died. I am very touched when at the last moment he has a vision with his daughter sitting in the back of the car... Because I find this story very strong and very sad. Him telling MJ to get out of the car and trying to kill himself in that accident... I’m speechless. In the end, there was poetry: three years earlier, the accident at that point had been responsible for the breakdown of Mike and Susan’s marriage. And now, this whole conflict is what brought them together.
Dave for me was a fascinating character and very well built. Deep down, as we can see from the flashbacks, he felt guilty about the family’s death, as he encouraged both of them to go out for ice cream alone, as he had work. I think this final flash is very strong with him creating a whole scene in his head, in which he prevents them from leaving, promising to give them his full attention. And it’s very impressive when they show his face, with this really psychopathic expression, really crazy, in the psychiatric hospital. I can’t imagine the burden, how heavy his head must be not only for the dangerous man he’s become, but also for the guilt he feels for what happened. That’s why I think this ending is GENIAL and very cohesive. If it wasn’t suicide, he had to go to jail.
In addition: I feel sorry for Katherine when she returns and the girl says that Mike left and asked to say that he is “sorry”. I get so frustrated with Mike in this story, because the whole time he knew that he didn’t reciprocate her feelings and that he really loved Susan. Katherine gave him a chance to be honest, minutes before he had to leave, and he denied his feelings for his ex. You just don’t play with anyone like that...
Anyway, I always found this season a little weaker than the predecessors, but I managed to like it a little more now watching it again. The “mystery” is weak, as it’s not really a mystery but a revenge plot - early on in the season we discover Dave’s motivations and his target. And I like the development of that, how Dave tries to get closer and make things happen, but there’s always some kind of unforeseen that thwarts his plans, like the fire situation where he found himself cornered and falsely denounced Porter; Karen delving into his past; Tom finding out about the tip... Then Edie’s death. Anyway. The time jump never really bothered me. Even with the drastic and abrupt changes (especially Gaby), I always found it interesting to follow this new routine. And the stories that came with them for me were all great and well developed. Then...
Gaby is a piece of work. I find it so funny when she explains to Juanita that Carlos’ family sucks, that she hates them, that she uses the jewelry to make them feel bad. But that they go to their meetings because they are “family”. And I really love the moment of Aunt Connie’s announcement, talking about having a few months to live and Gaby opening the can at that same moment. Her behavior when she learned that Connie needed someone to take care of her niece was also funny. Removing jewelry, hugging her daughters. I think it’s cool that Carlos wanted to do something nice and important like that, and Gaby refusing was being very selfish, since they have resources, a big house... The problem is only in this dialogue between Connie and the other woman. Ana goes to their house with some secret, which doesn’t seem to be a good thing... Soon they’ll find out. What will it be?
Tom seems to live in a loop, it’s usually like that, he gets excited about something, tries to do it, it doesn’t work, he feels like a failure... But really, I can’t be mad at him in this episode. Because I didn’t see anything wrong with wanting to go back to school, I don’t think he’s old enough for that. Lynette was the one who was too wrong to want to control this decision, she manipulated him to make him get drunk and miss the exam... And in the end, his idea wasn’t isolated, nor was it a whim. It had a purpose behind it that she herself recognized to be “brilliant”. I feel really sorry for him, really... When he apologizes for letting her down, having no idea that she pulled the strings for him to fail, it’s frustrating. I hope he gets another chance to take the exam at the university.
How can a man as ridiculous and oblivious to himself as Orson? I think it’s funny when he says he tried but couldn’t come up with an answer, a justification for Bree hiding things from him. He psychologically blackmailed her into getting a job at her company, making a show of leaving her room and only coming back when she did exactly what he wanted. He put on another unnecessary show when he learned that Andrew’s salary was higher than his. He stole a lot of things from the people next door – even Bree’s earrings he stole. He confessed that he was doing it to hurt her. And now he sees no reason? Please. I loved Bree so much that she didn’t care anymore, that he could take whatever he wanted, and that the only thing she wanted was to get out of the marriage. WONDERFUL. And Orson, not satisfied, went to blackmail again. He’s too nasty. Bree deserves better than that. I hope she doesn’t give in, that she goes to Karl and finds a way to get rid of his blackmail without harm. I want Orson to fuck himself A LOT, to stop being so mean and manipulative.
How Katherine accepts such a thing... I don’t understand. She knows, she’s seeing before her eyes that Mike still has feelings for Susan. She is aware that the proposal only came about because seeing Susan “moving on” with Jackson was kind of a trigger for Mike. To insist on this, just with the idea that she “can make him happy, he just has to forget about her”, is to look for disappointment. And Mike himself is terrible at it, since he fed Katherine’s feelings and hopes, being obvious that he really loves someone else. I like Katherine, I didn’t want her to get hurt from this relationship, but everything indicates that she will be disappointed.
Guys, Dave is an unbalanced man. He suffered a psychotic break when his family died, he became dangerous, he was being controlled with medication. There’s no reason to seek coherence in his decision to want to kill an innocent child, as this only further illustrates his madness. And it’s worth remembering that in his head, the way he sees things, he does have coherence. What he wants is to make Mike and Susan go through the same pain as him, which is losing someone they love, a child, etc. For him, ending the person responsible for the death of his family is too easy a way out. He wants to impose suffering. I think it’s pretty heavy – that scene where he’s determined to walk down the street towards MJ to shoot him dead is very tense and disturbing. And now he’s one step away from getting what he wants, with this trip and no one not dreaming what his intentions are. Too bad the police didn’t find Jackson sooner, I think there could even be a preventive arrest for Dave now that they know he was in the warehouse where Dr. Heller has been found.
I can’t deal with thieving Bree, her delicacy to rob her own house, wiping her feet on the rug, rearranging objects in places that are “out of balance”. What’s worse is that you could see chemistry between her and Karl... They interacted well and worked during this episode. Liked it. As for Orson, I ALMOST felt sorry for him when he talked about the mask and said he had ordered another one because Bree “means a lot to him”. There’s no way to believe that anymore considering all the things he’s done this season, assuming on top of that it was just to get to her. What kind of love is that? So selective? One moment he wants to see her suffering, the next he wants to show that he cares. Eh... I totally support Bree in this divorce and I’m glad Karl was able to show that backing out is a huge mistake.
It was TERRIBLE Mike proposing to Katherine just because he saw Susan “moving on” with Jackson. I’m surprised that him seeing them both organizing his move to her house was the trigger to make him propose and take such an important step. Worst of all, this episode made it even clearer that Mike still loves Susan, both by his reaction when he found out about the wedding, and by Mary Alice’s final narration when he gave the ring to Katherine. I don’t think she deserves to be fooled like that, and she really likes him... I think it’s so annoying when people play with other people’s feelings like that. And look, I love Mike. However, Katherine was also wrong to send that email in Mike’s name, confirming the pension. What is her intention then? Send Susan the checks pretending they’re from Mike or call the fuck after the wedding?
How awful the timing of that call from Dave. Apparently he was about to give up, he was going to run away, he had already bought tickets and everything... Hearing Susan talking about immigration gave him space to plan a little more. I feel so sorry for Jackson for being held back just before the wedding. But nothing stops the police from going to him to take the statement, I hope he remembers that he saw Dave leaving the warehouse where the fire started and Dr. Heller has been found. Then Dave’s little party gets closer to being over. Amen?
I always laugh with Tom frustrated in the car not knowing what twitter is. And here we have another midlife crisis, this time about plastic surgery. Tom REALLY needs to find a job soon, because doing nothing just brings these insane thoughts to him. Lynette is very patient, because he is very annoying sometimes. But anyway, I like this plot, I like the “scare” that Lynette tries to give him by bringing the plastic surgery guy home for dinner. And I love with all my might the moment when she says the wrinkles represent the stories they’ve lived together. So cute she giving him a reason to worry in every crease. There’s no denying it: as complicated as both are at many times, Tom and Lynette’s complicity is absolutely charming.
Juanita wasn’t spoiled like that. When Carlos went back to work and said he was doing it to make more money, she got all sad and said they didn’t need it. Because the most important thing for her was having her father at home. If she’s spoiled now, it’s Gaby’s fault, who keeps telling her friends that they’re rolling in money. But honestly, I loved this reality check she got. Precisely because she had been struggling for five whole years, Gaby should value her household income more and stop spending on such frivolous things. I hope she understood that with her friend who ended up suddenly losing everything.
How delicious to see Bree all determined to get a divorce. She’s doing the right thing, Orson was once very good to her, but it’s gotten to the point where she can’t tolerate it anymore. Too many lies, too many frames. And a lot of slack! Not to mention the emotional/psychological blackmail he’s been doing. But who knew she would go after the most unconventional lawyer there is? Karl saying they’re going to need to do some cheating and outlaw stuff to make sure she gets out of the divorce with the company. Nothing more than fair, right? Since she built it all without Orson and he’s already tried to take it from her just for the fun of it. I love Bree going to convince MJ to invite Evan to a sleepover. Queen!
Juanita feeling ugly... And already being bullied at school, she must have been horrible when the kids told her she could only be adopted because Gaby was beautiful... This plot was great. Gaby was priceless trying to disguise the lack of makeup and justifying it to everyone out of the blue. And the bathroom scene with her kidnapping the woman’s purse was great! Juanita was disappointed and Gaby was sad to have let her down. I really loved the final conversation between them, about beauty and acceptance. Juanita is cute. They could show more of Celia too, she barely shows up.
Tom’s midlife crisis is eternal! I feel sorry for him when he opens up (and I like those scenes where he’s honest with Lynette and they support each other), but in fact he’s very annoying when he wants something and can’t get it. He looks like a spoiled brat. Pretty ridiculous this blackmail he did to Lynette regarding sex and this “pact” he saw in a book. The woman was tired after an exhausting day of work, and he wanted sex... She sleeps and he gets angry. I love Tom, but this is really annoying. He needs to find something to do soon, something that will give him that passion he’s been missing. If it continues like this, it will only be harmful... BTW: what was he and Lynette making out with Carlos on the line? Oh God.
Katherine is really desperate for a more serious commitment. I laughed with her using MJ to get some reaction from Mike about marriage. And he had to be honest with her right away, she gave him the chance to talk about Susan, it’s pretty obvious he still has feelings for her... As I said before, deep down I feel sorry for her. Because what she feels is real and he, as hard as he tries, still hasn’t been able to reciprocate. Anyway...
That moment of Susan declaring herself that way to Jackson, only to hear afterwards about the visa and immigration, was one of the most embarrassing moments of the character in the series. Man, it was so embarrassing and humiliating! But I thought it was cool that she decided to do this charity for him. The problem is Dave... Not only are the camp’s plans screwed up, Jackson is a threat. He’s the only witness that puts Dave inside the warehouse where the psychiatrist was found, he just needs to remember... And Dave knows that, the investigators were kind enough to remind him in this very episode. By the way, his plan against MJ is horrible, man. Dave is completely freaked out, planning to coldly kill a child his daughter’s age... I can’t.
I love it when two characters’ arcs come together like that, like Gaby and Lynette did in this episode. Poor Lynn... She goes through every bizarre situation. Falling and passing out in the bathtub, being rescued by Carlos, who ended up seeing her naked body. I died laughing at her face when they were both talking in the bedroom, and then she said something like “Hey Carlos, quick question”. Tom and Gaby had already interacted in a different way in that episode where she goes after him to gossip. This one also worked, indeed an unlikely but funny duo. And they have a lot of similarities, so it’s nice to see that friendship taking shape.
Dinner was the culmination with the revelations coming to light. It’s curious, usually Tom and Lynette are the most sincere couple, right? It was even weird to see them arguing over that and Carlos and Gaby were nice because they already knew everything, from both sides. BTW: Gaby joining the gardening club and not wanting to garden. It’s just like her to do that! Queen!!!
I don’t even have anything else to say about Orson, I think I’ve explained enough how I feel about this man’s bad character. I don’t think he changed abruptly, I think he was just hiding or trying to control that more “wicked” side of him, shall we say. Because his introduction to the series made the audience question his nature, we can’t forget that. During Season 4 he was a really good husband, a good stepfather, but it was only when things changed (Bree became successful and stopped cooking just for him, as already pointed out) that he decided to show himself for real. What he does to the neighbor is unacceptable and unforgivable. It wasn’t enough to have caused the accident that led to Edie’s death, it wasn’t enough that he didn’t provide any kind of help, he still had to guarantee that the doctors would consider Rose an incapable elderly woman and send her to an asylum. Who does this? Take the woman’s life, her house, out of the blue? Without any remorse?
Luckily Andrew is around and isn’t fooled. Lucky he’s been paying attention to Orson’s steps since all the blackmail he did for his job and he’s warning his mother. I’m so glad she’s decided the best thing to do at the moment is a divorce. You can’t be with a man who already said he likes to hurt her and who keeps lying for nothing!
I can’t understand Mike. There aren’t many episodes where he told Dave that he was feeling strongly for Katherine, that he was really falling in love. Shortly after, what did he do? He reaffirmed that commitment by moving into her house. And now that she exposes that she wants to take a few more steps in the relationship, he’s uncomfortable... I feel sorry for her. Because she’s being stupid and this could have been avoided, at least a little bit, if her hopes hadn’t been raised with this change. They seem to make decisions without thinking straight.
Susan all worried about Dave and taking everything she considers suicidal from inside the house was priceless. I laughed so hard at the policeman yelling at her to throw herself to the ground and Katherine seeing everything in the car. But anyway, Susan, little angel on earth who was really disturbed by the possibility of Dave trying to kill himself. Too bad she has no idea what kind of person he is. She was sincere in revealing the truth about who was really driving in the accident. We already knew that his goal was to take what Mike loved most and give him the same pain he felt. When the target was Mike, he wanted to kill Katherine. Now that the target is Susan, he goes after MJ. This man is completely crazy and unnatural. Just for the thought of killing an innocent child...
Well, about this whole mystery: I don’t even think it dragged on throughout the season. It hasn’t been a mystery for a long time. Since episode 8 we know who Dave’s target is and a couple of episodes later we find out his motivation. Since then, he has tried to pursue revenge, but he has had to face some obstacles that I think are quite clever – like the situation with the fire at the club itself, with the police going after him, him lying about Porter and slowly losing control and sanity. Before I considered this narrative weak, but watching it again I realize that they conducted this revenge plot in the best possible way, even more considering that it is 24 episodes in a season.
It’s so unfair that the voluptuous Edie Britt left like this, so soon, so abruptly. She was a character of ups and downs, had glorious moments, moments that made the audience angry. But she was “one of a kind”, just as Susan described her. There is no one as strong, as joyful, as contagious as Edie in this series. And I think it’s wonderful that they did an entire episode to honor her and not let her go without one last show. To this day I cry watching these scenes, listening to some of the dialogue and the reflections they bring...
Susan’s flashback is great! From the beginning of the series, it was noticed that Edie and Susan would work very well as friends, because whenever the script devoted time to their friendship (or even antagonism), it yielded something good. Edie warning him about Karl (and we know she had a one-night stand with him when he was still married), and Susan pissed off that she was seeing a married man was funny.
Lynette surrendering to cancer... Without the strength (or unwillingness) to put a sock on her own foot. Edie and her unique ideas, it was pretty daring to take her friend to a bar in the middle of a chemotherapy treatment, but great too. Mainly because of the “shock” it gave Lynn about being a strong woman and not putting her head down for anything. I loved that it worked. “She said the tequila shots killed the cancer.” That must have been it.
It might sound random that Edie paid Orson visits in prison, but I think that just goes to show how wonderful she was - and the episode even says she lived right next to the penitentiary, and she was alone, got kicked out of Wisteria Lane, so it made perfect sense. She still gave Bree’s marriage strength not to fall apart with that situation (although it would have been better). I just don’t like it when they paint Orson in jail as a sacrifice and proof of love for Bree. It was her demand, but a crime was committed, he went there to receive just punishment for his actions and that’s it. If he hadn’t tried to kill anyone, he wouldn’t have been forced to do so.
The last two flashbacks for me are the most impactful. This one from Gaby always makes me burst into tears when the two of them talk in the little square down the street. I find this reflection that Edie makes of her own life very sad and reveals her conviction that she will die before turning 50, that she will leave young. I don’t know, but this moves me a lot. In addition, I love the two competing in the club to see who can be more courted.
When the girls finally arrive at Travers’ school and tell him about what happened, I can’t help myself! Even the totally cold, apathetic reaction he has to hearing “Edie passed away” is so heavy. Then it combines with that flashback of Karen, which is quite significant. Simple but strong. We already knew about this from Edie, about what prompted her to grant the father full custody of the child. But that “I love my son enough to let him hate me” part, I can’t. And that touched Travers himself a lot too. I understand him not feeling as shaken up as any other son, because they weren’t close at all. But she was his mother, and this conversation with Karen was important for him to forgive her and so Edie could move on in the spiritual plane.
That final moment with the girls scattering her ashes across Wisteria Lane chills me. It was a beautiful tribute, allowing her final rest to be in the place where she lived illustrious moments. And Edie’s narration in the background makes it even more touching, as she says about “how she lived”.
Edie Britt. You will be greatly missed.
Orson is at a point where I just can’t take it anymore. I think now he’s taken off all the good guy mask for good, and he’s allowing his dark side to dominate him. He is the son of Gloria Hodge, and was introduced within the series as a mysterious character capable of killing. During Season 4 he was pleasant, considerate, a good husband to Bree, but this one he’s changed for good. And all because he’s envious, selfish, sexist...
I will always consider the psychological blackmail Orson uses to get Bree to sell the company one of the greatest absurdities. Does he need it to recover? Does he need her to give up the success and recognition she’s built up with so much strength and determination over the last few years? Lucky for Bree she has an Andrew around and he’s seen things for what they are. What kind of love is this that requires a wife to simply give up what makes her happy? And all this for what reason? Because Bree didn’t officially make him a partner in the company. Oh please. That excuse about him being sidelined I think is too far-fetched, because they are ALWAYS together, even when Bree was at her peak amidst the release of her first book, which gained national recognition. After YEARS of being a housewife and giving Orson her undivided attention, seriously, he couldn’t handle a few months of seeing Bree focused on promoting her work? As if. For me it’s bullshit. He is jealous. And so he wanted to force her to sell.
Another abusive relationship presented was in Lynette’s work environment. That Lucy is completely delusional, and honestly? I don’t think she can even do that there. How does she just say there’s no more lunch break and everyone has to stay late permanently? Eh... I really loved Lynette getting a personal vendetta and using the Solis girls as bait. Lucy was petty believing that the girls were the daughters of the cleaning lady, who she thought was Latina. Carlos spoke beautifully as he threw the truths about these human issues on the table. That’s really no way to talk to anyone!
As for Gaby: the complaints she made were raised by Carlos when she forced him to take the job. He warned her that this would happen again, he would be too tired and spending too much time in the office, and she would be lonely. But I thought their conversation was mature and beautiful, especially on her part, exposing that they’ve made these mistakes before and it wasn’t good for them. And that now they can follow a different path. Crucial for Carlos to face Lucy too. He’s the boss, he can decide the best way to work without jeopardizing these deals that they work so hard to close. BTW: I died laughing with Gaby stuck in bed unable to scratch her nose.
The school principal completely shocked by Susan and Karl’s argument, his expressions were priceless. Especially when she threw paint in Karl’s face, having been married to him for 12 years adds weight to things from any point of view, really. I liked this arc and didn’t I feel sorry for Karl for the revelation of his wife’s abandonment? Susan being empathetic: angel on earth. I felt sorry for the child too. The mother loves him, but she doesn’t feel that she should be a mother. No wonder the boy is so angry. So young and already going through such trauma.
Dave’s plan was very smart. Great for being so simple. If he had managed to kill Katherine I would have been very pissed. Taking the life of an innocent, in a cold, calculating way... Even if it was Mike, it would be too much, because what killed his family was an accident, it wasn’t intentional. Katherine was lucky for Edie’s timing, as she put the paper in the machine and found out just moments before that shot. And boy, she was absolutely brave. Because she could have warned someone, could have contacted the police... But she stayed at home waiting for him to confront him, having in her head the idea that he went to Wisteria Lane to get revenge, maybe to kill.. But I don’t think she ever considered him capable of doing something like that anyway. And lucky for her he stopped, he gave up...
Which brings us to this FRUSTRATING final sequence, with Edie and Orson... The human trash trying to blackmail Bree again going to sleep on the couch (remember what he did when she refused to make him a partner?) and deciding steal... Seriously, it was disgusting when he opened that little smile for seeing a crack in an open window. Just to cause all this tragedy with Edie. She shouldn’t have swerved, she should have run over that rat from hell... But no, she swerved, hit the car and Orson instead of approaching to try to help, to warn that there was a loose wire there, for her to try come out the other side... No. ORSON RUN AWAY without providing ANY help! He caused the accident, had his life spared since Edie was speeding and swerved because HE was in the middle of the street, and the little bastard still runs away. FUCK!!!
Edie didn’t deserve that. NEVER. I can’t handle it.
This was one of the best plots Susan received in the season. It was really funny that she accidentally gave Jessie the wrong idea and made her believe she was a lesbian. The moment of the kiss, Susan’s expression was priceless. And the school analogy, with gazelles and rhinos. I felt sorry for Jessie, when she commented that she never went after love, she expected it to go after her and now she ended up alone. But I thought it was cool that Susan was there as a counterpoint too, someone who’s always been after love and also finds herself alone. Anyway, this situation was a mess, but I’m glad she managed to get out without making a bad impression. Let her keep her job. BTW: Gaby kissing Susan was great too. Best scenes!
Carlos got all tense when that guy showed up talking about Dave’s last call, thinking it was the end of his job... The world goes round. He became president! Brad kicks the bucket and Carlos takes his job. Gaby barely being able to contain herself in the middle of the funeral was funny. Subsequently, I found it quite unnecessary for Gaby to shrug her shoulders and doubt Lynette’s ability in the field of marketing. So many years of friendship, having witnessed her commitment to service several times, and she still doubts her. But I loved this plot too, Lynette taking advantage and demanding a little extra money, and agreeing to be the spy. But I think Gaby should totally trust Carlos.
Still on Lynette: damn, I felt sorry for the interviews! Those two women saying that over 35, interviewers take them to the back to shoot. And Lynette saying she was 54 and the little guy didn’t even blink, help. But I liked the things she said when he kept questioning her age, unfortunately what is really important is not considered nowadays, which is skill and commitment. Lynette is young and has an enviable resume, and she’s losing jobs just because she’s over 35...
Dude, look at the situations Bree finds herself in because of Orson. The scenes where she appeared returning objects were funny, but it’s unfortunate that a woman like her is going through something like this on her husband’s behalf. I know kleptomania is a compulsive illness, but it makes me so much angrier to see him doing it because he knows it’s something that directly hurts Bree. “It’s something she can’t control, and I love it.” So what did she do for that? Andrew and his salary? Or the fact that people show solidarity with Tom and not with him, who committed a crime? What a great love he feels for Bree.
I found Dave’s account of the loss of his daughter very sad, trying to disguise it as being about someone else. Despite everything, you can’t imagine the pain he felt and feels for this tragedy, losing his wife and a child at once, out of the blue, so abruptly. And boy, now he’s put the plans on track for good. He convinced Katherine with ease and took them camping. Worse, this trip could have been avoided and Dave unmasked, if that old man hadn’t been pathetic and had sent the article Edie asked for.
I don’t and I never thought Tom was the worst person in the world, worst character, far from it. He and Lynette are the most beautiful couple in the series for me, they are sincere, accomplices, they disagree like in any other marriage, but they always try to support each other and make decisions together. That’s what I admire so much about them. But in this episode, Tom was indefensible. It was pathetic of him showing up to Bree’s dinner all slovenly, and answering in that unwilling way the questions of the guy who’s looking for a BOSS for his company’s new division. It was even more pathetic of him getting all pissed off when Lynette simply responded to the guy’s claim that she had no advertising experience. He didn’t fucking want a job, he was just frustrated to see that he would be left behind. After that, I honestly think they were both childish, exposing each other’s rottenness, who was boss, who was fired. They acted immaturely. But Tom has outdone himself by bringing her cancer into the discussion. It was by far the most disgusting and unnecessary comment he’s made in these 103 episodes. It’s not enough to regret it for the rest of his life... But I’m glad they’ve settled and forgiven each other. And him encouraging Lynette to chase her dreams, since she dedicated seven whole years to his dream... I like it when characters make mistakes and in the same episode, they redeem themselves.
Gaby going after Brad’s lover was funny. I laughed out loud when the crazy woman threatened to cut her bangs. And I loved her telling Brad that she wouldn’t be an alibi anymore, when he threw it in her face that she only really cares about herself, about the bonus, about the days off for Carlos. This shows that she hasn’t completely gone back to being the selfish petty she was before. The outcome of this plot is very shocking. And I always feel sorry for Maria. She believed that she was happily married to her husband, she was making plans for the birth of the baby they are expecting, talking about the colors to paint the room. And then he starts to say that he has another woman, that with her he discovered what true love is, that he is going to leave her to be with his mistress. Can you imagine hearing that? Maria clearly acted on impulse, threw a fit... And I’m sorry, because she’s ruined her own life now.
Susan was very mean and Katherine just said facts: she did feel satisfaction in saying that the picture was a gift for Mike, painted during their honeymoon. She might as well have omitted at least that part. Then I thought it was even meaner when she told him and made them both fight in the middle of the party. I will always be team Mike and Susan, I want them to get back together. But I like Katherine and I felt sorry for her when she went to “apologize” and gave her reasons for lying about the painting breaking. It was 100% true. The good thing is that in this arc, as well as in Tom and Lynette’s, Susan screwed up, recognized it and fixed it. I thought it was really cute when she went to get the painting and explained to Katherine the reason for doing it. As much as she still loves Mike, it’s Katherine he’s with now, right... You can’t force and try to change that.
Orson has reached a new level of bummer. Is he stealing to make up for his lack of recognition? Did he really want people to show sympathy for him after being arrested for running over Mike, putting him in a coma for six months with no memory, and then pretending for a long time that he was a friend and good neighbor? In what world did Orson think this would look good? Honestly I think he’s lucky that no one on the street has completely turned their backs on him, not even Mike, Susan (who was disgusted when she found out). Losing his license is a consequence of the criminal act he committed, and he has to deal with it. Since then, he’s been blackmailing Bree into getting a job. He pissed off about Andrew’s salary. And now he’s stealing!!! What a joke. What about the scene where Bree discovers Tom’s salt shaker and he’s making a fool of himself to convince her to keep the stolen object? What the hell, man. This character is just downhill. And now he’s going to steal from Bree!! She deserved a better guy for a husband.
Finally Edie will discover the truth about Dave. The meeting with that Father turned out to be great. I want him unmasked soon.
There’s no way to defend Susan in this episode. Perhaps it was her most immature and unbearable attitude all season so far. It was very out of proportion that she was totally neurotic about Mike leaving MJ with Katherine. He needs to work too. And Katherine was unoccupied, she just did him a favor. I understand Susan being jealous, because she was always there for her son – MJ himself commented that she never left him when he was sick – and she was afraid that the boy might see in Katherine another mother figure. But her reaction was unnecessary, especially in the final discussion where she made all those baseless and shameful accusations about Katherine wanting to sink her claws even deeper into Mike by winning MJ’s empathy. People?? It was ridiculous for her to think this was Katherine’s evil plan. They were friends until recently. I’m one of the few who loves Susan, but there are things I can’t overlook.
The reaction of the Scavo children when Tom announced that they would be waiters was priceless. Man, I can’t really stone the twins, because their behavior is so real, consistent with any teenager in the world. Porter was cheeky saying that his father should wait tables, he had a mean tone, but that’s a lot of talk for someone his age. And besides, I totally understood his fear of serving the school group, since there was a bully among them who even made the life of one of the twins hell for a whole year recently. Tom’s reaction to Porter was absurd, he took it too hard putting the boy against the wall. Of all the characters who exaggerated, however, he is the most understandable. Because the pizzeria was his dream and he’s not emotionally ready to give it up now. One of Tom’s fears has always been failure, we’ve known that from the start, so the pizzeria failing after so much investment must not be easy to digest. A lot on his mind... But I think the decision to sell was the right one. Better to leave right now than risk losing everything, as Lynette pointed out earlier.
Little by little, Gaby is returning to her old life, spending a lot of money on jewelry and so on. I don’t think it’s bad that she’s going back to dressing in fancy clothes, going back to buying jewelry. But I didn’t want her to be selfish again, one of the best things about the season was precisely the transformation she had when she had to make sacrifices for her family and value much more what they have, and especially money. Anyway... The situation with Bradley was absurd. He is naughty, cheating on his wife and offering a bribe for Gaby to keep her mouth shut. Now she and Carlos are uncomfortable, especially with this thing about Maria being pregnant and wanting the Solis to be the godparents, for being “honest and decent”. Poor thing.
Orson is the most stinky piece of trash. How can a guy be so mean like that? It was ridiculous enough him trying to find out behind Bree’s back what Andrew’s salary is and worse still: getting all pissed off that he’s paid double. Just because he’s a husband, should he earn more? Andrew has been with the company since the beginning, he manages everything, he is helpful, careful. He works his ass off with his mother and gets the pay he deserves for his service. Then Orson gets angry because he has dental training, an area that has nothing to do with this buffet!!! It’s hard enough to swallow the way he got this job, with that pathetic blackmail he did to Bree – and I thought it was wonderful that she threw it in his face, so he’d stop being abusive. And now he will start stealing ?? Why did he take Andrew’s pen?
Finally, Dave putting his plans into action. He was smart enough to propose camp to Mike, knowing that Edie wouldn’t want to go. Just to be alone with him and Katherine. We already know what his intentions are.
Oh Bree, there’s no way to defend what she did in this episode. I find it very difficult to choose a favorite housewife, because I love ALL of them equally, but I think Bree stands out a little bit, I have a very special affection for her. And it makes me very sad to see the things she does here.
As for rubbing the car in her friends’ faces at the beginning of the episode, I didn’t think it was mean. She had no idea about Lynette’s financial problems and the other girls were excited, which leads us to believe that this behavior between them is normal. But the pizzeria situation... It was absolutely unnecessary and in bad taste to throw three pizzas in the trash can just like that. First because it’s an absurd waste of food, and second because she knows the Scavo are having financial problems. For her, throwing three pizzas in the trash can be anything, but not for Lynette. Only those who go through this kind of situation know how significant these things are. But then the situation gets even worse when Lynette confronts her and Bree throws the money in her face. PEOPLE? Again it was in bad taste, because not everything can be solved with money, and this is one of those situations. I don’t know, they could have served these pizzas with the other type of cheese without the “Bree” label. And the others that she helped to prepare, could be sold as straight from her book... Anyway, Lynette at the beginning said she didn’t want the money interfering with their friendship, but I think she was the person who caused it by being proud, since Bree offered the money as a gift. While I think Bree is pretty wrong about this pizzeria situation too, I hope they find a way to make amends as soon as possible. I really hate when they fight.
I don’t blame Susan for wanting a better educational future for MJ – especially considering what she said about his current school having problems, going downhill, stuff like that. And while I find the scene where she steals the pearls funny (Katherine in a towel in the middle of the street and Parker falling off his bike is priceless), it was absurdly selfish on her part. Simply going there and stealing what is not hers to sell is very wrong. She could have talked to Mike earlier, it would have saved her the awkwardness. Besides, it’s really absurd for her to ask Mike to sacrifice EVEN MORE with the work when he’s already doing everything he can, while she waits for her books to be sold. That’s why I think she redeems herself well by asking for a job. Good thing she made it and now MJ will be able to study in one of the best schools. MJ is so adorable.
This Gaby and Edie plot was WONDERFUL. I laugh my head off over Gaby dying on the first day of training. But it’s so common, no matter how heavy and extreme the trainer is, the first day at the gym for anyone is always painful. But the best thing was the scolding Edie gave her, saying that she went back to being selfish and mean just because Carlos has a good job again and now they are as they were before. Gaby dressed up like a socialite is great, but I hope she doesn’t go back to being that person she used to be. Even more so now that she is a mother. I like her to be rich, but I like her to be empathetic. The hug she gave Jean after mistreating her at the beginning of the episode was very meaningful.
Bob’s expression when Dave showed up and gave Tom all that support, claiming that Porter wasn’t responsible for the fire... Man, I’m glad Lee decided to speak the truth, and now another person on Wisteria Lane knows that the nature of the Dave is not the best. I hope Tom paid attention to what he said too, about “the police having cornered him and he had no choice.” Because this is ABSURDLY suspicious. Also, Jackson just disappeared after that situation at the club and he is a key witness to put Dave in the back, as he almost died because of him too. Anyway, it was very tense Dave managing to dominate Tom. And I hope Lynette finds out. She has the right to confront him.
The 100th episode of Desperate Housewives is very special. And it’s remarkable. It is perhaps the most touching chapter the show has presented so far. Very delicate, reflective, impactful... And it gets even more credit for revolving around a character that has never appeared before. Eli Scruggs was never even mentioned, but the script quickly manages to make the audience form a strong bond with him. It’s only 43 minutes, but in the first scene, you already feel sorry for Eli. Then it’s just crying for the man he was and the difference he made in everyone’s lives on Wisteria Lane.
I am shocked at the “impression” Gaby makes on girls the first time she invites them to poker. No wonder they were talking bad about her, she was really mean... Dude, what was she saying she wanted to shoot herself in the head for being in the suburbs for a month, and patting Mary Alice’s arm? That reference made me laugh. But it was beautiful indeed, Eli not only encouraging her to make friends, but also to fix the mistake she had made, and thus not be so alone. If it weren’t for him, maybe Gaby would never have gotten over her pride to truly open up like she did in the scene where she went to apologize to the girls. Exposing real feelings, that she was alone, that her husband is never home. Also, it’s wonderful to see how Gaby has evolved since then. It’s okay that she had to get poor for that to happen, but it’s still a positive change.
Lynette’s desperation to get back to her career, to get back to work, led to that terrifying moment of carelessness. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I think this scene is very strong, when Eli walks in with Penny in his arms and Lynette realizes what happened. Felicity’s performance right now is out of this world. Her look, her movements, her voice... Everything is perfect, she perfectly evokes and shows her feelings. Eli was wonderful trying to calm her down, reminding her that she has a lot on her mind, and that with the newborn baby she has a “new job”. With a gesture and a few words, he changed Lynette’s priorities, who decided at that moment to abandon any idea of a job - and she only returned to the business, it’s worth remembering, after that situation of Tom not getting the vice presidency, resigning, and switching places with her. In addition: I like the flashback to the barbecue at Bree’s house. Lynette comparing her uterus to a stove is priceless.
The idea for Bree to write a cookbook was born soooo many years ago, long before the series even started. And it was very frustrating to see that Rex tried to stop her, in the most idiotic way possible, as if she was incapable of doing anything other than taking care of the house, doing the laundry, making them food. The most curious thing about this character is that as ridiculous as he is (and during most of the 1st season, he was ridiculous with Bree), I can’t be mad at him!!! Years go by, I rewatch the series over and over again, and I still enjoy it when he shows up – I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the actor is charismatic. But anyway, it was VERY touching Eli saving the book that Bree, totally disillusioned, threw in the trash. And handing it back right after Rex’s funeral service. Without him, she might never have gone ahead with this idea and become the successful, recognized, acclaimed businesswoman she is today.
Susan nearly bursting into tears over Mike was really sad, man. The first flashback too, when she found out there was more than one woman in Karl’s life - but this one had a more comedic edge. The second was much stronger. Eli’s speech to Susan impressed me so much, it’s something I ALWAYS remember. He never got involved, never thought love was something worth so much effort. And the battle that Susan has fought since he met her to be happy has shown him that it is indeed worth it. I think it’s so beautiful and so reflective...
Finally, we have the best and most emotional flashback of the episode: Mary Alice. What an extraordinary character... Eli Scruggs changed the lives of many people. But his life was forever marked by the kindness and compassion of a woman who was always willing to reach out to anyone in need. I can’t even describe what I feel every time she notices his shoe is punctured, she understands that he’s in need, and offers the vase to fix it. She delivers the cards to the neighborhood, helps him get clients and thus makes him have a much more comfortable financial situation. That final moment destroys me completely. Everyone outside, Martha Huber being inconvenient and exaggerated in reporting the bloodshed from Mary Alice’s suicide, and Eli there in the corner, alone... Man, there’s no way to hold back tears, especially with that sad soundtrack. It’s very touching when he makes the promise that he would never stop helping anyone again if he could...
What a beautiful human being Eli Scruggs was. And what a wonderfully well-written episode. It was a break from the season’s storylines in celebration of the 100-episode mark, and it was flawless from start to finish. The way flashbacks connect to the current moments of our housewives. And of course, the fact that we get so attached to a character that has just been introduced. I only have love for Desperate Housewives. This is the show of my life.
Susan and Edie, two characters who are always fighting, who are always declaring war on each other, but always make wonderful scenes. I loved that moment when they were locked in the basement, especially for the honest conversation they had about relationships... Susan in the last episode had already told Lee that she can’t be without a man in her life, she fills a void that exists inside her . I laugh so hard at the gigantic list Edie puts together. And Susan saying that she got her second boyfriend during class break, the same day she got dumped by the first one!!!! Deep down there is affection between the two as well. I think it’s so cute Edie flashing that smile when Susan leaves. They work too well interacting with each other, no matter what.
Susan has been single for a considerable amount of time before, which is when Karl left her. And that happened because she became absurdly depressed. Now she’s alone by choice – glad she gave up on that idea of moving out. Let’s see how long. I think she needs some of that.
In Bree’s plot, I think both are wrong. Bree’s behavior in that scene where Orson talked about the grill was really embarrassing. Especially when it comes to her, who likes to hide things that, in her view, don’t border on perfection. I understood Alex being uncomfortable, especially considering that she reminded him of his mother’s behavior that ended up taking his father out of the house and such. But him making that direct criticism and using the word castration was also unnecessary, because after all, they had just met and she was nothing but empathetic and super nice to him. On the other hand, Bree was also wrong to use the house as blackmail to make him “behave” and not upset her. Anyway, the important thing is that they got it right. I think Alex is cute, he and Andrew are beautiful together, and I would hate to see Bree estranged from the two of them because of the strong geniuses that exist there. And Bree allowing herself to be criticized is really unheard of!
I feel SO sorry for Stella. She is so wronged. No matter how many flaws she has and mistakes she’s made in raising her daughters, she’s still a mother... I’m really sad that Lynette just abandoned her in an elderly clinic, even more if we remember that whole situation in season 4, when she escaped after being rejected and Lynette felt guilty, and kept running after her... Stella ran to the hospital terrified her daughter had died and Lynette left in a very rude and unnecessary way, “I learned from the best”. That’s why I like the moment at the end when Stella throws the truth in her face. And the narration of Mary Alice saying that Lynette was enjoying every moment of the conversation, feeling happy, makes me very happy too. I really hope she doesn’t abandon her again. Ah, sad for Glen’s death! Damn!!
And luckily Porter had the charges dropped for lack of evidence. But I hope the police keep doing their investigation and get to Dave! They need to find out that he even made the false statement about seeing Porter in the back of the bar.
Speaking of Dave: it’s amazing how fate lends a hand in his revenge. His intentions became even clearer in the conversation he had with Mike: he wants to take away what he loves most. That’s why he asked about Mike still being in love with Susan and showed surprise that he is loving Katherine. He even pulled strings to end the break between the two (because of Mike’s silence about her moving or not). He’s scary. And Edie going after him again...
Finally, Gaby’s plot is very fun, I laugh so much with her having back pain from carrying Juanita. And also when she takes the guy to yell at the girls. They rushed to put the toys in the basket!! But these girls are really complicated, very sassy Juanita. She looks like the Scavo boys, except they’re a little quieter. And what Carlos said is true, right? Gaby made him take this job, so complaining that he’s out and that she can’t handle the girls on her own is incoherent. But it was good that he showed the girls that they must obey their mother.
I can’t contain my joy to see Bree and Andrew in such an incredible mother-son relationship. The development that they’ve both had these past few seasons is worth highlighting all the time, because it was very cohesive and interesting to follow. To think that in seasons 1 and 2, Andrew wanted to see the devil in front of him and Bree had to kick him out of the house to have peace. Now, she competes with Alex’s mother to spend as much time with her son as possible. Melina is quite inconvenient and totally unnecessary with the “call it” thing for the holidays and pulling strings to get the boys to move, since they already have a life in Fairview. Bree showing all her power by buying the house as a gift, and on Wisteria Lane!
In the conflict between Carlos and Gaby, I understand both sides perfectly. I think it’s very beautiful and important for Carlos to decide that he wants to do charity work, participate in a community center and reach out to the disabled. Not everyone decides on their own to do such a thing. However, I think he could do it in spare time, on weekends, or things like that. Nor do I say that he should accept this Bradley job (since there is a possibility that he will go back to being that guy from season 1, I agree with the cons he exposed about this), but he should look for something that is paid. After all, they need an income. Gaby has sacrificed a lot these last 5 years, now that he’s okay, she needs a break. How will they support themselves if he only does community work?
Susan worked so hard for Lee’s friendship and hey, she finally made it and naturally. I really like their scenes so much. There at the club and then at the end, when he advises her not to give up her life for fear of losing a man. Susan also has an absurd neediness, it must be trauma for the period she was alone after Karl’s betrayal. Anyway, I hope she heeds that advice. There’s a lot to put in the balance before making a decision like that too, after all it’s not just her, there’s MJ and that affects not only the child, but Mike too. BTW: I LOVE Lee asking to put his hands on her breast and I love Susan having doubts whether or not she had sex with him. But the best thing about this arc by far was Gaby’s sarcastic laugh when Bob showed up at the house. ONE OF THE BEST MOMENTS OF THE SEASON. How contagious. No wonder Carlos fell in love with her when he heard that!
I die with people judging Porter for being terrified. As inconsequential as he was to Anne, he is only 16 years old... Hearing a threat like that from a man who has already shown no scruples, would make anyone afraid. I don’t blame him for running away... But with Lynette’s pleas, he could come back. In fact, that moment when she decides to show Preston how a mother’s love speaks louder, and leaves between the lines that she’s going to end Warren, was very tense! Such a mother, capable of anything, for love! Porter needs to get back now, as understandable as the escape is, the problems are only going to get worse. I want Lynette finding out right away that he’s with Stella.
Dave increasingly unbalanced. Now he gives us a clearer understanding of why he ended up in a psychiatric clinic, why he freaked out and became so dangerous. Losing his wife and daughter at once, so abruptly, is so sad, I can’t even imagine what it’s like to face it. With the meds gone, he’s getting scarier and scarier. About Edie, she took too long to question him about his life and family. The impression that is left is that they met and only talked about things of the moment. He asked her to marry him, she accepted and that was it. And I do feel sorry for her, because she’s just a pawn in the story. She has always felt lonely and has always been very needy. When she marries, she falls into the hands of someone like this...
And Karen almost didn’t hear the receptionist talking about Wisteria Lane. If she had stayed, she might remember that the girl said “Mr. Dash” moments before and do a search. She would find out about the accident and find out the reason he was in Fairview...
The Scavo family suffers so much. It’s one problem after another, all the time, there’s no peace for them... In addition to this huge and tense situation with Porter, they still have to deal with the lack of money. I’m in shock that Lynette used this emergency amount to give to Anne. It was a lot of money for a person who was a realtor! And now she had to improvise to get the bail money. Poor thing... What a woman, what she (and Tom too) doesn’t do for those kids. Porter was very stupid and inconsequential in what he did, stealing the gun, hiding it inside his house. And I was disgusted with the threat he suffered from Warren when he was accompanying Penny in the square. You can’t blame him or judge him for deciding to run away, anyone would be terrified to hear that at any moment, he can simply “disappear”. And we know this Warren is not a good person. He’s a coward indeed. So he is able...
What a BEAUTIFUL scene of Carlos seeing his daughters for the first time, it was very emotional – and it was about time he got his eyesight back. But even more so when he saw Gaby’s closet and finally realized the sacrifices she’d made these past five years to keep the family together. Gaby was the character who changed the most in this time jump. And it was for the better. She has matured a lot. She was iconic before (still is) but she was very selfish. We know how much dresses, jewelry, shoes, all those things meant to her. And when things got tough, she didn’t think twice about getting rid of everything to support her daughters and her husband. I think this is a proof of love. It was really nice of Carlos to decide to buy her the dress as a small form of thanks - and honestly the least too, since he sent her to retrieve the baseball and Gaby had to submit to the humiliation of dancing for an old man on top of a table.
Bree has evolved A LOT and I’m very proud of that. In season 1 she had one of the most toxic reactions when she found out about Andrew’s homosexuality, there is a big positive difference to her behavior now. There was a development not only for her, but for him as well – who was a little devil – and it was one of the most sensitive. And what I like most about the plot of this episode is that Andrew is not disgusted that Bree went after the movie that Alex made, or something like that. This is the standard reaction of children. He showed surprise and joy that she cared enough about him to try to protect him. It wasn’t a matter of not wanting to, not approving, or anything like that... It was making sure the guy was being honest with her son and if he really is “the one”. And Alex is a cutie, let’s face it. I hope the relationship works out!
MJ is so cute and funny. I love it when he keeps raising his eyebrows, he looks just like Mike. And I know it’s wrong, but I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw Katherine walking home with her hair all sticky and when the boy threw the bowling ball at her feet. It was childish evil, she didn’t deserve it, but it was funny. On the other hand Susan was quite unnecessary when she was making those very direct insinuations about Kath being older. The trouble with these unresolved couples is that they only begin to better analyze their previous relationship and what went wrong when they move on. While Susan was reluctant to sign the divorce, she tried to reverse it, and Mike was the one who decided to end it that instant when he signed the paper. And from the conversation they had just now, he seems to have been a little shaken. Anyway...
And the mystery of the season has now been clarified. Dave is the husband and father of the victims of the accident that Mike and Susan were involved in, as we saw in the 5x01 flashback – I find this so difficult, I feel so much for both of them, especially for the girl, so beautiful. That’s why he’s on Wisteria Lane, to get revenge on Mike for taking “everything” from him. And by the lines, he wants to do the same thing... Take “everything” from Mike. creepy. And he’s getting more and more out of control, he’s even seen their ghosts. He is very disturbed. And consequently, very dangerous. After all, he’s not measuring his efforts, right? He caused the death of seven people and now he’s ruining the life of a teenager and a family just so he doesn’t get caught...
For Carlos, the injury he had during the confusion of people in the middle of the fire turned out to be a light at the end of the tunnel. After five years, there is a possibility that he will see again. And to think he’s never seen his daughters, at least now he has a chance. And it was so funny to see Gaby working out, killing herself to lose weight everywhere. Self esteem issues suck. It’s no use, as much as people say different things, if you don’t feel good about what you see...
And I don’t even think Gaby lost her beauty, she’s just more “humble”, she was mistreated by the family’s financial situations. She is no longer always dressed up with beautiful dresses and a lot of makeup on her face... Anyway, how can you not love the scene that Carlos declares himself to her? By far one of the most beautiful and delicate moments of the two. Really beautiful what he said about the moment he realized that she would be by his side for the rest of his life – Gaby’s laugh is really contagious and passionate. This 5 year jump, and the difficulties they faced in that period, was a good thing to evolve both of them as people, and also as a couple.
Porter’s situation is pretty heavy... Suspicion like that on him, man. Death of seven people! Even Lynette with that expression on her face wondering the possibility that maybe he had started the fire himself... I thought it was pretty strong. I don’t think he would be able, even in the heat of the moment, to do that in a place full of innocent people. With Tom in there, by the way, performing with the band. And about Anne: she’s hard to decipher, as she took Lynette’s money and decided to leave like that, apparently lying about her pregnancy. What was the intention? Did she really expect to run away with Porter? Did she really love him? I feel disgusted with this madwoman. But I hope she doesn’t come back. Porter is in enough trouble already.
I love how Susan finds out that Katherine is the friend Mike is seeing when she spits out the cookies again. The initial reaction was plausible. All the women on the show reacted this way when they saw their loved ones making out with a close friend. Also, Katherine pretended that she was shocked when Susan shared her suspicions. So that complicated it a little... But Susan’s reaction to Bree was totally unnecessary and exaggerated. Once again Susan thinking the world revolves around her. That information wasn’t Bree’s to share. At least she already heard some truths straight to her face, I agreed with every word Bree said. It wasn’t natural how their marriage ended. They let the trauma of an accident interfere with their relationship and cause this rupture. Susan saturated Mike and they both sought to escape...
I laughed so hard with Bree stunned at the mall presentation, man. Mistaking it for the woman’s house. Lamenting Danielle’s ingratitude. And Orson feeling guilty back there. He really lost in this battle over whether or not to have the surgery. In fact, that shouldn’t even have been a big question, who would stand or be able to sleep with a tractor on? Or was he going to drug Bree every night so he could stay in bed? And look at the coincidence, the doctor who saw them is Andrew’s new boyfriend.
Edie telling Dave that she always thought Lynette’s kids would be trouble, and that she’s a great judge of character. Poor thing... She’s completely misjudging Porter and doesn’t see the kind of man who’s sleeping next to her every night. Dave was disturbed the entire episode by the size of the fire and the death toll. Apparently feeling guilty... But just in case, to get rid of any kind of suspicion, he does this shit and blatantly lies about seeing Porter back there. FUCK. Hateful character! Big villain! For now, the key to his testimony falling apart is Jackson, who saw him back there, leaving the warehouse, minutes before realizing that everything was on fire and that someone had even locked the bathroom door from the outside... Jackson would be another victim if he hadn’t broken the window.
Susan happily admiring Julie’s new boyfriend, only to be disappointed to realize that he was actually the taxi driver. And that the boy is not quite a boy, and he is much older. At first I found the concern with age a bit exaggerated, although there is indeed a big difference between Julie and Lloyd. But when he talked about having three marriages and, especially: that he was already planning to propose again, then I could understand the concern and fear that Susan felt. I laugh a lot at that scene of the two of them dancing in the club and Susan getting in the way. Susan is awesome, how can anyone hate such a human being, man? And besides, she raised Julie really well, she’s very sensible. I was surprised when she was frustrated that Lloyd had even considered marriage after three months of dating. She was going to refuse anyway, Susan didn’t even need to get involved. And what Julie said about marriage afterwards... She suffered a strong disappointment, and the reasons she gave for it were plausible... Anyway, I miss MJ. I really wanted to see him and Julie interacting like brothers.
Virginia is crazy... she made the complaint against Carlos in the last episode, in this one she went after the Solis again and offered a special place in her will, as the only beneficiaries. Gaby going to hug her saying that she “can’t stay angry for long” was funny. I loved what she said to Virginia at the club. The old woman was really looking to buy the family and mold them to her liking. It was beautiful to see Gaby imposing herself and claiming that no one makes decisions for her daughters but herself. And reaffirming that in other times, she would certainly allow herself to be bought... But now, not anymore. What motherhood doesn’t do!
Orson with a pipe and reading in that position, like a man from the 50’s just to give a very cult image!!!! I like Bree’s plot, more precisely for the lesson she takes about looking perfect all the time. Of course, the journalist would go after the rotten ones, the “imperfections”, because nobody’s life is the way Bree tried to show it. It was really beautiful when she really opened up and spoke her intentions with the cookbook, the kind of hope she wants to pass on to women who find themselves empty and purposeless. And even better was the journalist buying this and praising her for being sincere. Honesty doesn’t kill anyone, does it? BTW: Andrew questioning if he could be gay after Orson’s arrest came to light was really funny. What about Lee?? Remembering that Rex paid sadomasochistic prostitutes!!!!
Lynette Scavo, what a woman. Extremely altruistic. She came back to protect Anne from her abusive husband, even after that DISGUSTING conversation they had... Anne didn’t show an ounce of regret, saying that she’s in love with a boy who is her son’s age and that she saw grow up! She was proud to be expecting his child. This really makes me nauseous. And yet Lynette decided to come back to help her. I think it’s too striking her throwing that candlestick over Warren and saying that “she fights back”. As for Porter: he’s as inconsequential as any teenager and driven by hormones. It doesn’t take much analysis to conclude this. He wants to run away with his mistress, relying on a minimal amount of money he has kept in a small box. Typical teenager. And what about him blaming Lynette? What had she done wrong besides trying to protect him like any mother would? Anne, I bet she would have the same attitude if it were her son, right? Porter was pretty crazy going to the restaurant and hitting Warren and threatening him like he did. And then coming back there with a gun. Warren’s accusation will certainly make the police’s eyes fall on Porter, especially considering he was missing for a while when the fire started...
Which brings us, finally, to the tragic situation of the episode that was this fire. Really, this sequence of Dr. Heller is one of the most impactful and strong of the show for me. A really horrible death. Hard to forget him with his eyes and mouth open after being asphyxiated, having told his killer seconds before that he cared about him. Dr. Heller trusted Dave too much. If he was shocked to discover that Dave was in a band with the person he wants to destroy, he could have predicted that he wasn’t as emotionally controlled as he tried to appear. With that, we now know this more sadistic and cruel side of Dave Williams, capable of coldly murdering a person just to ensure that his plans are not interrupted. Importantly, he tried to kill Jackson too, locking him in the bathroom just because he saw him “backstage”. Lucky for Jackson who managed to break the window and save himself. I fear now what might happen, as he is a witness, he saw Dave leaving the room that started the fire...
We now also know that Dave’s target is Mike. “I’m not done with you yet.” It remains to be seen what his motivations are, what was so horrible that Mike did to him, since he says that his life was ruined, and he is so thirsty for revenge. Besides, it’s going to be complicated to see this guy being seen and honored as a hero, since he started the fire that killed more than one person, apparently...
This Scavo plot is interesting because it parallels what we saw at the beginning of the show: Gaby and John Rowland. At the time, we saw the situation through Gaby’s eyes, the woman cheating on her estranged husband with the 16-year-old. And now we see the situation through the eyes of Lynette, the 16-year-old’s mother getting involved with an older, married woman (with an abusive husband, apparently) who is now pregnant. It’s a plot that makes you angry and even disgusted, even more so when they comment on things like: “She was your coach when you were six years old. She is the mother of your best friend.” Gaby didn’t see John grow up, she met him when he was hired as a gardener and used him - and I’m not trying to diminish the gravity of that situation, let me be clear. But in Anne’s case, she saw the boy grow up. This is disturbing, man... On so many levels! And to think that they are now planning to run away. Fuck. Porter counting on a small amount of money he must have earned doing errands for neighbors or parents... Porter is CRAZY, and Anne is irresponsible. Plus she’s very reckless.
I totally understood Lynette’s fury over the encounter they had in the bathroom. Anne behaving as if she wasn’t doing anything wrong... It was pretty intense Lynette slapping and lashing out at her in all that violence. “If you get close to my son one more time, I’ll show you how much I love him.” Don’t mess with a mother. Imagine if she finds out what their intentions are? Lynette will explode for good!
Gaby tasted a little bit of the old life she had... And she allowed herself to go blind, because from the beginning Virginia’s behavior wasn’t the most natural, was it? What motherhood doesn’t do. It was just seeing the old woman approaching the girls in a worrying way, considering herself a “grandmother” having known them for a measly three days... If Gaby hadn’t accepted the initial pampering, VIP weekend, pool (so much lust that the butler had to go into the water just to deliver a margarita to her hand), maybe things didn’t “end” that way. With Gaby being very rude and Virginia reporting Carlos to the club for misconduct and harassment. The problem they must face now... Too bad for Carlos, because he’s not to blame for anything.
It’s a shock Bree having sex on top of the kitchen counter! It doesn’t even look like her, such was the fire she was feeling. Andrew being encouraged to use his evil side to recover the video, I loved that. And in the end it was Katherine and Mike kicking ass in the same spot as Bree and Orson. HELP!! And their involvement has progressed so fast, Katherine is visibly delighted. I hope it doesn’t get into trouble, with Mike being the ex-husband of her oldest friend on Wisteria Lane. Both are separated, Susan is seeing another guy, Mike has that right too...
Speaking of Susan: Jackson manages to win me over with this episode, for showing that he really feels love, affection for her. And I thought it was so beautiful that he did that painting. Even more so for Susan identifying her gaze, being surprised that he knew her like this... Too cute! If it weren’t for Mike, I would have been really rooting for them to work out! But my shipper heart asks for Mike.
About Karen and her sister: We now find out that Dave lied about his name too. The psychiatrist doesn’t know any Dave Williams, but he knew right away who he was because Roberta mentioned Fairview. So he knows what Dave’s motivations are, and who he’s after...
You can’t help but love Gabrielle Solis, man. I laughed so hard at her tempted by Virginia when she heard the proposal to become a personal shopper in Paris, to be paid in dresses. It was priceless to see Gaby totally speechless, and she fell right into the trap. It wouldn’t be Gaby if she let this opportunity pass, would it? And it was pretty embarrassing what happened between Virginia and Carlos. I thought it was funny he awkwardly afterwards, talking to his colleague about the “gift” he had over her. But we’ve already seen that Virginia is very smart. She told Gaby that it was “flattering to know that a young and pretty girl was feeling threatened” by her, but the intention is really bigger there, see Mary Alice’s narration. She is a predator. BTW: Frances Conroy, such an actress! I honor this participation.
It’s also impossible not to love Tom and Lynette. I always think it’s cute when he says that he thought she was against everything he did just to tease him, but if he’s hurting her feelings, he’ll drop everything without even thinking about it. That kind of complicity is not so easy to find. The next scene leads to understand that he was really cheating, and then it gets even more shocking when it is revealed that who is having sex there at the rehearsal location is Porter. And with an older woman, the mother of a close friend of his. It’s so weird to see the boy having an active sex life (and I know it’s normal for his age) considering we saw him as a kid a few episodes ago.
And Lynette, man... I love her so much, but she always jumps to conclusions about everything, she doesn’t let people talk, or justify themselves... It was like that when she saw Tom at Nora’s house, she took the kids and disappeared. And now she’s packing his bags. I find this even more ironic if we remember, for example, Rick’s situation, where Tom caught her blatantly lying about being busy with restaurant business and in fact she was having a romantic dinner with the waiter... We know this will be clarified, because he’ll have to reveal that it’s Porter who’s having an affair. But I find Lynette extremely impulsive in these marriage matters. Tom is very different from her in this and I prefer his method of dealing with certain crises.
SUSAN IN THE SHOWER WITH THAT WOMAN. Too priceless, the shampoo in the face, the woman being slammed into the wall, I laughed so hard. About Jackson: I liked that Susan had second thoughts and decided to go after him. And I also liked that they found a way to get it right and are going to try to start all over again. Unlike most, I think she has matured a lot in these five years and is now overcoming a fear, taking an important step with another guy. I prefer her with Mike forever. But Jackson is a good person, he is cute, handsome. And he seems to really like her. So, for now, you can accept it. BTW: Susan venting to the new painter, telling all the details of her life, that’s so Susan.
Bree and Katherine’s relationship has evolved so much. And I think it’s beautiful. In fact, the fights, competitions, etc etc, is what makes them look like sisters. Because even with the disagreements, there is a great gratitude and affection there. I love Bree with the greatest good intentions of trying to give Katherine a “hallelujah” night and achieving it. And I die when she finds out the guy was convicted of organ trafficking. “He’s going to end up stealing my heart,” oh my God. Katherine’s reaction in the kitchen made me feel sorry for her, but it also made me laugh a lot.
Lily Tomlin, my Frankie, Karen’s sister. And a very eccentric character. I loved the two of them working together to dig up dirt on Dave. Good thing Karen wasn’t sent to a clinic like he wanted. So she can find out what he really wants...
Speaking of which, Dave has brought together the four main male characters of the series in the band: Tom, Mike, Carlos and Orson. And he has an unparalleled interest in rehearsing, he wants to increase the time they spend playing music... Mike has already found all this interest strange... We also had in this episode the information that he had a brother and that he has died . So did it have something to do with what he came to do on Wisteria Lane? Hmm...
One of the best and most significant episodes, with important flashbacks showing crucial passages in the characters’ lives over the last five years.
Susan’s first flash, I thought it was pretty sad... That she was hesitant to sign the divorce, saying that she and Mike could try to make it work again, that they “were fine” before the accident. And he signed the papers without a second thought, it’s like he was really fed up and knew that Susan wouldn’t be able to stop feeling guilty. It’s a shame that the wedding that took so long to happen ended up like this. And worse: with both still having feelings for each other, but emotionally estranged because of a serious trauma. As for Jackson and his conflict, I do feel sorry for him. Initially, the relationship was proposed as something casual, but I think it’s been over for a while, right? Just look at how close he is to MJ now, for example. He lives at Susan’s house, he was already participating in these social events. I think Susan is just really scared, as she exposed to him in the first few episodes. Overall I’ve come to like him, I see him as a nice guy. But I still prefer Susan and Mike reconciling!
Finally we saw how was Gaby’s reaction to the pregnancy. I laugh so hard with her slapping the doctor in the face, poor thing, totally unexpected. And the second pregnancy, it was priceless for her to tell Carlos to dump Juanita because she wanted to hit him. I love a queen! Well, her anger at Carlos’ lie is totally understandable. It’s not the first time he’s been super dopey with her in these matters. He violated her body in Season 1 by tampering with birth control pills. Now he lied about this procedure, which made her flippantly become more “okay” with birth control. I love her timing when she comes downstairs to announce that she’s finally got her period. She is perfect.
What a horrible thing happened to Tom. You can say he died and came back, he was very lucky. From experience, as I’ve seen it with my own eyes, I think it’s common for people to see life differently after a near-death event like the one Tom suffered. You come to understand that the time you spend here is short and that at any moment everything can end. But that last decision he made was pathetic indeed. Take the kids out of school? Traveling in a trailer across the country for a year? And the money? And the work? Worse was him demanding support from Lynette for such an absurd thing. She’d already had to fully adapt to his earlier dream, and now this. I loved every one of the things she commented on, about having faced death head on and still being rational. They really can’t be turning their lives upside down just because he’s bored. I love Tom, but these childish attitudes are pretty annoying sometimes.
Gosh, very sad to see that Bree had a severe drinking relapse after Orson’s arrest and Danielle’s cowardly attitude of taking Benjamin away. Katherine was a true love of person, a true friend, inviting herself to move to Bree’s house and help her face this difficult period in her life. I love this friendship. Orson is complicated, right... Always annoying and very selfish. I didn’t understand him saying that “Katherine is her friend, but she is our employee”, because she is not that. She’s a partner. They started the company together. It was even Katherine’s idea to take the catering business forward, Bree didn’t even want to accept it at first. I hate that he uses blackmail to reveal everything at the party like that. But at least he redeems himself in the end after learning the truth behind their complicity and stating that Katherine would decide the right time to become a partner. When he gets it right, you have to recognize it.
Finally, we have the situation that was the scene of all the disagreements in the episode: Karen McCluskey’s surprise party. It was horrible what Dave did. It’s frustrating to see people looking at her like she’s really crazy. Dave is a new neighbor, so far he has shown nothing but sympathy to everyone. He was friendly and besides, he’s married to a person who has been known for many years in the neighborhood... It’s understandable why everyone finds Karen’s accusations strange and unfounded - and Karen also reacted with fury, with that taco, going at him violently. He planned everything meticulously and it worked out down to the smallest detail. Karen isn’t his target, she’s just someone who was snooping around too much, and he needed to get her out of the picture. And we now know from Mary Alice’s narration that he’s after a man. A man who “destroyed his life”...
Poor Bree in this episode, she was made of a punching bag all over the place. I don’t think she’s changed as a person, that she’s become arrogant, that she despises her friends, any of that. I think it only happened when she refused to credit Katherine in some recipes, stating that she had not collaborated, since she had... And in this episode, I only felt she was unnecessary when she said that she was going to receive the Business Woman award, responding to Lynette’s comment about being nominated. I don’t even think it was her intention to say that to show that she “was on top”, but I think the timing wasn’t the best...
Now, about the marketing campaign that Lynette developed, I don’t see how her refusal was “despising”. First, because she didn’t ask Lynette to do it. And second, because she didn’t like it. Would she have to accept it just because they’re friends, when Stu’s firm did a much more Bree-like marketing job? That idea of strong and vivid colors is nothing to do with Bree Van De Kamp, I don’t know where Lynette got that from. So, I found the discussion they had quite sad (even though Lynette was upset), because I think there was a lot of injustice there. But friendship is that too, right? The important thing is that Lynette came to her to apologize and Bree was able to once again expose that she is not all that perfection they paint. She tries. But nobody can.
The second time was by Orson’s hands. The character has been in a total spiral since the season started, just talking and doing shit. He looked like a pissed off little kid when he decided to leave the room and refuse to reconcile with his wife over the idea of becoming a partner in her company. Katherine was right, that’s their business, they built it together and made it what it is today. Then, out of nowhere, Orson demands to be a PARTNER, since he has no specialization in their area, and gets this pathetic attitude for her refusal. I find it sad that Bree has to give in to this emotional blackmail… And my anger only increases when he runs back to the bed and hugs her just because he got what he wanted. Fuck you, Orson.
Quickly returning to Lynette: I think the idea she had of freelancing was great. I loved the response she gave Tom when he talked about “restaurant and family”, as he also has a little hobby to call his own.
Jackson was very out of place. He shouldn’t have taught MJ to ride a bike... Even though Mike was far away, he gave the bike, he’s the father... This is a father-son activity. Susan screaming when she saw the two of them on the street was funny. And what a bad luck MJ got really hurt in the “fake” fall. We haven’t had many scenes of Mike with his son yet, but so far I like his role as a father when he’s around. And now that he’s living across the street, it’s going to get better and easier. By the way, Mike lived in four different houses on Wisteria Lane, huh? The one that belongs to Katherine. On Susan’s. Edie. And now, at Mary Alice’s house.
Dave is now showing a great interest in Mike... The effort he made to get him to join the band. He bought a house, rented it for a low price and hid who the owners are... Suspect. So far he’s gotten pretty close to two neighbors. It was almost the same for Tom, he even gave him a new bass so he wouldn’t leave the band... It’s very intriguing to find out who is his target.
Finally, I LOVE Gaby’s plot, the funniest of the episode. I don’t know why, but the thing about the girl spinning around and Juanita with the most bored face always makes me laugh out loud. And she drinking juice watching her parents’ “fight”. I was quite surprised that Gaby and Carlos decided to tell her right away what they were doing. Because she’s very young and doesn’t understand much. It could only result in the story going viral in the mouths of other kids. SPERM!
