A tough, touching, and humorous look at a youth foster/psych home and its staff. It would have been very easy for this movie to slide into triteness and over-saccharine lessons, but outside of a few moments, it always feels grounded and real. A large part of that is thanks to the children actors, so often a detriment, they truly shine in this movie. Especially strong is the young man who plays Marcus, he may have big things ahead of him. The intimate camera work and natural feel to scenes add to the sense that you are in the world with these characters, and it rewards you in an emotional way. The connections and empathy you build are more than enough for me to overcome any of the writing flaws, though there aren't many to begin with. An incredible film, I'm excited to see what the writer/director has in the future.
Such a good movie. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a thought provoking straight to the point good old fashioned movie. With a very short run time for modern day features, its refreshing how effective the story played out.
Short Term 12 was beautiful. It makes you experience a whole spectrum of emotions while never feeling manipulative or unrealistic. Brie Larson was fantastic, Keith Stanfield was great and, while I already knew I liked him from The Newsroom, John Gallagher, Jr. was good in this too. My only complaint was that I wish there had been less hand-held shooting, or at least that it was less obvious in stationary shots and that it didn't constantly lose focus in moving close-ups. I cried manly tears.
The acting by Vanessa Kirby was amazing! I think she really captures the grief of a parent really well. I think the film does a good part in showing that people grieve in different ways, and that can cause people to drift away from each other. I would've liked Shia LaBeouf's character fleshed out more, but I understand this is supposed to be the mom's story for the most part. I think the film takes a detour with the final climax towards the end, but overall pretty good.
Crappy movie with low budget effects
I can't believe how dredful this was , I watched it until the end hoping it would get better, it didn't !
nope nope nope nope nope did not need to see that. could have easily lived a happy life without seeing that last act
Nice movie but the effects are so poor... Especially the ending lol.
Generally love Paul Rudd, but oh boy - this was just awful!
Forgettable is the right word alright. This movie is filled with cliches, not one original funny joke and the story is (as could be expected) very predictable. I thought I could have some laughs from this, but I was proven very wrong. Not recommended at all!
Meh.
Movie is kinda boring, after 20 mins or so you just find yourself thinking "Oh my, only 20 mins? It seems like I've been here for ages!"
For me, main issue is that there is no connection to the characters. I was not able to relate, so in the end it was all a big "who cares?".
I have never been swept up by a movie before. While learning how they lived and Jack's perception of the world, I was enthralled. I was scared during get both the build up to, and the actual escape. The tears started flowing when Jack first saw the world and there was very little time after that where I wasn't crying.
I fell in love with both the characters and the portrayal of their story. Score: 9.5/10. Loses half a star for not showing more of the amazing female police officer who helped him when found.
I liked this movie, it seems like it wasn’t a big budget movie but instead relied on good performances. A gritty script mixed with tragedy and sadness made this a movie worth watching with enough action for the guys
Was slasher but was very good for a horror movie
Wow this one is very well made. Greetings to Serbia.
Liked! Didn't expect much so it was great.
Same storyline has always, predictable, made me jump a few times.
First 25 min is to you get the story so dont judge, after that, it create the type of movie expected.
6/10
A surprisingly solid gator flick with good gore/practical effects, tied together with a servicable story and characters. Regardless of the water levels on show, expect nothing of depth from Crawl and you'll come away satisfied, just buckle in and enjoy the ride.
A solid monster movie. It has some good gorey gator action. It moves pretty fast and doesn't waste any time. Probably won't be thinking about this for long but I had fun.
Crawl came out of nowhere and bit me in the ass. I wasn't expecting much more than a smile, but Crawl had teeth and had me in its Jaws from the get-go.
Most summer monster movies are simply excuses for good posters (The Meg, anyone?), but skilled French director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes remake, 2006) brings some original touches to the genre, and even when he stays in the realm of the cliché, he has the decency to never let up the pace.
This movie is everything you'd expect it to be. Which is exactly why I enjoyed it! (I do have a soft spot for disaster/creature features). Predictable plot, some decent tense moments, and just pure fun! See you later alligator :smile:
I gave 4. Plot could be accetable but not the rest. I cannot accept that a blind and stupid monster sniffing pheromones could really be a threat for a civilization who travels the space and time. Cannot accept that a spaceship travelling time and space is made of wood (bambù). It is naive and really stupid.
Totally a waste of time
Just a boring CGI fest. Plus Jaden isn’t a very good actor.
Bad acting, bad accents. Just bad all around.
Could have been a much better movie, but Jaden is a terrible actor.
One of the greatest satirical dark comedies of all times. A true masterpiece.
Caught this movie on Netflix one afternoon. Had no idea what it was about or never heard of it, but being a fan of Colin's I decided to give it a try. I was happy that I did. This is a beautiful movie. It's not a fast pace lots of action kind of flick. It's a take it's time, slow, stunning, in depth character building, kind of movie. Definitely a movie you should watch at least once in your life. I personally loved it!!
Really funny and iconic. Totally recommended.
