Daaaaamn.

I have to wonder if some awareness of this interpretation drove the selection of the episode title. If so... subtle.

Poor Sam... Should have chose to save Sam

loading replies

The Right Thing, one might say, in a crazy charged morally ambiguous situation like that, is highly subjective.

IMO, the right thing would have been to refuse to answer Anatol's question, to make it clear that whoever Anatol chose to kill would be on Anatol and Anatol alone, to demonstrate that she, for one, would not choose one person to live or die over another, human or synth.

OTOH, weighing that against the intensity of the moment, any lingering biases, and belief in Anatol's seriousness about killing one or the other (and her responsibility thus to save at least one of them), and just trying to think clearly through that mad cacophony, Laura was in an utterly impossible situation, and it's difficult to fault her too hard whatever she ended up choosing.

But, try explaining all that to poor Sam... or Stanley... or Sophie...

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY BUILT UP BLACK NOIR'S BACKSTORY THIS SEASON TO MAKE HIM DIE LIKE GARBAGE......... I KNOW THEY KNOW THAT THEY COULD'VE DONE MUCH BETTER.

loading replies

They did use Noir nicely as a foil from which to tell us the story of What Really Happened the day Soldier Boy disappeared.

But, yes, after all that, that end was sadly disappointing. I can see that as being part of the point: to further punctuate the tragic futility of trying to eliminate the unstable toxic mess that is Homelander. But, still,... sigh.

Yeah, that's probably my only real nit with this one. He'd have to know that creature's physiology pretty well to have a decent chance to plant a single killshot with that knife like that, and that seems awfully unlikely. (Maybe if he'd sunk it into an eyesocket.)

But otherwise, the way the battering he received so badly damaged much of his armor and left him clearly exhausted by the time he pulled that knife... Wow.

Mr and Mrs Fisk.

Not quite the bang I was hoping for but it's still a great end to the season. My only problem is that it's a very 'Marvel' type ending, in how the villain is defeated and the heroes have a happy ending, but have more trouble to come with a predictable ending that reveals a new villain for next season...and also, I'm disappointed Fisk didn't die. I thought that was what the whole season was setting up, because of Matt's whole separation from faith. I really thought Matt would kill him, but he's just done the same as he did in season 1. I'm sure all the corruption won't happen again because of his love for Vanessa, but man I'll admit I'm disappointed he wasn't killed.

Anyway, as you can see from the rating, I still really enjoyed this episode. Dex finally learning that Fisk has been abusing his emotions and manipulating him was a highlight for me, as well as the the brutal fight scene at the wedding. Other things I loved about this episode was how it gave Father Lantom the send-off he deserved, and the moment the title of the episode refers to: when they decide to start the law firm again, but with Karen as one of their attorneys.

If you compared the dark and depressing premiere to this feel-good finale, you would think it was two completely different shows, but it was still very enjoyable.

Season 3 episodes ranked:
1. Blindsided (episode 4)
2. The Perfect Game (episode 5)
3. Karen (episode 10)
4. The Devil you Know (episode 6)
5. Resurrection (episode 1)
6. Upstairs/Downstairs (episode 8)
7. A New Napkin (episode 13)
8. One Last Shot (episode 12)
9. Please (episode 2)
10. Revelations (episode 9)
11. Reunion (episode 11)
12. No Good Deed (episode 3)
13. Aftermath (episode 7)

Season 3 Rating: 8.3

I was kinda hoping for at least some small throwaway line like Karen half-joking that "it's too bad we can't just ask Frank to help."

The Flash: 4x23 We Are The Flash

Review by Vero
BlockedParentSpoilers2018-05-23T16:13:51Z

The finale was bitchin'! All things considered, I really enjoyed the episode, as I did the whole season. After last year's disaster, this season has been refreshing, especially the first half; the second one, however, had good episodes but it wasn't the same without Ralph. He's grown on me since he first appeared and I'm so goddamn happy he's back.

The episode had its things. DeVoe's death, for example was unsatisfying. He went down way too easily. Since they depicted him as a God who every movement everyone was gonna take, I knew whatever they did, I was gonna be disappointed. Also, when you pull the "I'm not dead, bitches" card, I expect them not to be killed in the next few seconds.

That shot of the chair got me excited and made me think that Team Flash was actually gonna fight an evil flying chair. As if DeVoe were the smartest chair alive. Then I realized this isn't Legends and everything went back to normal.

Nora: "I'm your daughter, Nora, from the future and I think I made a big mistake"
Barry: "Yeah, she's my daughter. No doubt about it"

Of course mystery girl is Barry's daughter, messing things up runs in the family. Seriouly, what is it with this family and timelines? It's like a freaking family tradition. Are we gonna have Nora-point now? Also, I always expect Nora Allen to pop up in a finale. I guess technically, we've have a Nora Allen in every season finale.

The team's plan to go into DeVoe's mind to defeat him, inception-like, got md so excited. I always find it cheesy to defeat a villain with the power of love, or just looking into their good side, especially after doing nasty and terrible things. However, I loved that Ralph was the key to defeat him.

The Wells stuff got me very emotional. Watching Harry like this was actually sad. There was a moment when I thought he was gonna tell Cisco "you've shown me what it's like to have a son". Their scenes together these past few episodes have been really emotional. Tom's acting was so damn good there and the look on Cisco's face when he saw Harry didn't get his intelligence back was heartbreaking. Cisco's last remark ("It's the end of an era") got me worried. Harry's goodbye seemed genuine, but we've always had a Wells' send-off at the end of each season, so I'm guessing we'll have a different Wells next time around.

One thing that I didn't get was why that Speedforce language wasn't even taken into account. Why the hell would you introduce speed language if not to use it? Definitely, to no avail. Yeah, it's gonna be carried on next season but still. Harry was literally uttering the same words Barry did and that didn't seem relevant to the plot. So, I'm guessing that the Barry from episode 1 came from a post DeVoe time when he made everyone dumb.

Also, if Barry's daughter run back in time to save Barry from dying by hitting the satellite, that can only mean that Iris is indeed, pregnant. Otherwise, she wouldn't exist.

That party in Joe's house was so cute. I loved seeing Wally back but I want him to stay with the Legends. Jenna Marie West was so cute. Barry is her uncle and brother st the same time. Weird. I loved that Cecile's daughter didn't even show up for the birth of her sister. Did the writers just forget about her or what?

I would've liked Marlize to stay. She was one of the highlights this season. She could've just stayed around and become a regular.

I really hope next season improves because the premise is actually quite good. Yeah, the cliffhanger was a bit lame, but still. I remember the writers saying that the fans were gonna be surprised by who mystery girl was because no one was expecting it, lol. I'm dying to know more about Killer Frost.

So I guess we'll never know what happened to his eye.

On a serious note, this was a solid finale, but it was not without a couple of cop-outs along the way. Still, it was thoroughly enjoyable, and after watching it in English in order to ensure that I missed as little as possible, I plan to rewatch it sometime soon in the original German.

Dark: 3x05 Life and Death

I'm sure the writers had a second name for the show and it was: "what the actual F is going on. I don't understand shit". That wasn't too commercial and they stuck with "Dark".

My sister asked me yesterday why the show is called Dark. Well, I guess we just found out.

My stomach actually hurts. This was by far the saddest and best episode of Dark. I loved it more than words can describe, but it got really dark.

I love how the more you watch, the more tragic their lives get. I rememeber thinking nothing could be more tragic than Mikkel's. Then, Ulrich's. But Katharina's life is so freaking tragic. That poor thing got killed by her own mother who then went back home to abuse her at a young age. And the same day she's killed, Mikkel returns to the same home she's been living in for God knows how long. Seriously, that scene with the broken window and Mikkel looking at it got to me the most. Well, that and Ulrich waiting for Katharina at the entrance. Two really powerful scenes. I'm heartbroken just thinking about him standing there waiting for her to rescue him and see their son again.

Also, that scene in season two, when they're at the lake and Bartosz's telling the story of a lady who downed in the lake to scare Martha, he was talking about Katharina! That's just messed up. So Bartosz scared Martha with a tale about Martha's mum pulling her down in the lake. This episode made one of the happiest scene on the whole show look even darker.

The scene of Helene abusing young Katharina was brutal. She's abused by her mother, doesn't want to have kids because she'll end up like her mother, has three kids, her husband cheats on her with Hannah, who also sleeps with her son and who she's named after, then her son Mikkel goes missing, she ends up neglecting her other kids, her husband also goes missing and is trapped in an asylum, she goes back to save him and ends up being murdered by her own mother without seeing her son.

Also, the trailer scene with Elizabeth and Peter was beautifully shot. It felt like a nightmare. And the fact that she's deaf made it 10 times worse. I got the feeling that Elizabeth was gonna end up killing Peter and that it was gonna be the cause of her change from sweet girl to a badass in the future. But I guess I was wrong although, if she hadn't picked up that pocket knife, Peter wouldn't have probably died.

By looking at the paper where young Noah wrote I realized it looks like he was saying that Charlotte and Elizabeth were at the caves, which is technically true.

Also, who was that guy at the RV? At first, I thought it was Erik's dad, but I'm inclined to believe that it was just a random guy.

And what's the deal with H. G. Tannhaus' son? He spoke about two women who seemed delivering him Charlotte. I bet they were adult Elizabeth and Charlotte, who went back to the past sent by Adam to kidnap young Charlotte and deliver her to Tannhaus.

Now, our Jonas getting killed was shocking but as previous events have shown, this Jonas' only purpose was to sleep with Alt-Martha, get her pregnant and so create the whole family tree. So there were, in fact, two Jonas. Like Schrödiger Jonas. Two different decisions at the same moment created two different versions of Jonas. So, since adult Jonas is the one that ends up being Adam, our Jonas was sort of a time remnant (in The Flash terms), someone who exists with just one purpose. Sort of like a Meeseeks type of thing. You exist with one purpose and once that purpose is completed, you disappear. And suddenly, Jonas' transformation into Adam starts to make sense.

Also, that last shot of Jonas on the floor with the family trees definitely looked like wings.

I love the mirroring this season. In our world, Adam killed Martha. And now, Martha kills Jonas. The irony. Also, there were waaaay too many Marthas in that room.

In another show, I wouldn't give it much thought but this is Dark so, what did Alt-Martha want to say to Jonas in the morning when they woke up? She stopped herself from talking. I'm sure it means something.

I couldn't help but laughing when Charlotte and Peter were talking and they said "She's not deaf, you know" in front of Elizabeth.

The journey the Saint Christopher's locket has been on is amazing. So it started with Egon Tiedemann, who gave it to Hannah/Katharina, who gave it to young Helene, who lost it in the lake to be found years later by Jonas and Martha repaired it and gave it to Jonas who then gave it to Alt-Martha. That's quite a journey it's been on.

loading replies

Interesting thought with the time-remnant analogy. That would also explain why adult Jonas (back in 1888) has no memory of meeting an alt-Martha back then.

OTOH, in that case, where's the "real" young Jonas that eventually grows into adult Jonas (and thus into Adam)?

Or are we going to find that when alt-Martha showed up to collect him, she actually somehow sent the "real" Jonas somewhere/somewhen safe from the imminent Apocalypse (from which he has not yet emerged) while branching off the remnant to bring home...?

Arrggh. Brain hurt.

The Umbrella Academy: 2x09 743

Regardless of american shows always romanticizing some older presidents like Lincoln and JFK, I truly never got Diego’s obsession with saving Kennedy, especially cause they were trying to fix the timeline and prevent doomsday so in order to do they had to respect the events of the original timeline meaning letting Kennedy die.
Just a little comparison, in Timeless there was this character Rufus, who timetraveled and you could see the conflict of him wanting to intervine to save Lincoln or trying to end racism and hatred by altering certain events and changing the timeline forever, and obviously you understood his reasoning and the morality behind his actions but I just don’t see that with Diego like what was his connection with JFK? Literally none. I mean it’s not that big of a deal but the whole season I’ve been like trying to figure out what is going on there.

loading replies

I just got the impression that Diego was just (desperately, unconsciously) looking for something clear and actionable latch on to; he fixated on the idea that saving JFK was the answer because he wanted something simple and heroic like saving JFK to be the answer. Seems like something Diego would do barring any real information suggesting otherwise.

You've watched it once and now you know you've got to watch it again to understand half of what you missed out with the three timelines.

I enjoyed it the first time but I dare say I'll enjoy it better the second time around.

As for it being Netflix's 'Game of Thrones'… it can't compare with the seasons based on G.R.R. Martin's novels. The rushed seasons that those two idiots "wrote" without being able to base themselves on the novels don't count.

Altogether, I'm looking forward to season two.

I wanted this episode to be the greatest climax any season has ever had. The previous episode gave it a great setting to do a lot of amazing things in the season finale.

The finale was slow paced it was well put together and expertly delivered. Each and every scene purposely moved the story along. The people who lost value in the greater narrative were trimmed off. Nobody died that was truly important. And nobody moving forward in the story has an absolute certainty about their future.

What I love the most about this episode was that the producers realized that the greatest attraction to the series itself is homelander. They gave us a season finale that did not take away from the character of homelander but it's still held him back is a character with a greater story yet untold. There is so much uncertainty around homelander and what is next for him and his son.

I'm curious how the producers are going to save butcher's life in the next season good stuff so far. Overall season finale was well done

loading replies

I'm curious how the producers are going to save butcher's life in the next season...

I suppose they might, if they find some truly creative healing solution out there somewhere.

I think it's more likely that Butcher will scheme and wait and watch for the perfect-as-he-can-get timing, then take the temp-V one last time in a last attempt to destroy Homelander, knowing full well that it'll kill him as soon as it wears off.

But, with this show, who really knows... ;-)

Wow. There's a lot to unpack here. What a penultimate episode! Season 3 renewal announcement, come through!

First off...
• LOL at whoever wanted to use their super soldier (Raelle) for a recruitment tour... our very own witch Captain America, love it :joy:
• Goosebumps at the mycelium origin story scene! Way to turn things around, and I think anyone still questioning Alder's intentions especially after the doubts planted by this season would be swayed back into her corner after that (very Season 1 finale feels, actually, so I guess she will always be a complex character); Raelle, of all people, sympathized with her!
• Morrigan's whisper, holy sh---!!!
• And the Rite of Proxy scene. God damn, that was intense!
• No offense to Victor Webster (guy who plays the VP), but I have seen him on a couple of other shows as the bad guy or an unlikeable one, or so I can't help but think that his character here is shady lmao (he has been to me since day 1 lolol). The way he's been all season about his daughter being a witch is sketchy to me. "He's actually a pretty good guy" my ass — if you have to say that about a character, it's almost guaranteed to backfire eventually lol. If the guy that stays behind turns out to be a means to distract or keep tabs from within the Fort, I wouldn't be surprised.

I've seen some reactions where people are genuinely worried that Alder is getting killed off in the next episode but I really don't think so, because if they stick with the decision made here (Petra replacing Alder), I think it would definitely be interesting to see Alder as a "regular" witch/soldier who isn't the Army General (and if there's one thing I've gleaned from Eliot's interviews, this seems right up his alley (hopefully).

In Petra and Alder's words, Alder has lived as the General for so long she's forgotten how to deal with consequences like a human and has made some... questionable decisions to protect the witches (and to some extent, her position). After her dismissal, she would be watching the new General eventually make similar big decisions, and possibly similar mistakes, like she did, but this time as a spectator... either making her introspective and see what she could do differently, or just smug and satisfied like "I told you it wasn't easy" (I wouldn't mind her being petty like that, I probably would be too lol).

I don't doubt that she would eventually try to scramble back into the seat of power (and that she might succeed at one point), but this should be a good arc for her... if she survives. This whole comment would be for naught if she ends up actually dying like people think and I'm a fool lol.

Something about how he acted while he was saying goodbye to his daughter struck me as driven by more than the day and the moment (even as much as that day had been), and it was one of the first things that came back to mind after that witch plague burst... I've kinda wanted to like the guy so far, but... I have a baaad feeling about this.

Of course, they're not going to end the show with Madeline. Let's just take her down (although, she did it herself) two episodes before the finale but have the torch passed on to someone else to stretch things even further. I mean, might as well end the show with the team as an official (or semi-official) team taking down someone who is planning a major attack, just like old times.

Still, I've had just about enough of this show. This season has been its lowest point, with the fourth season as a close second. What a fall from what it used to be, at least, worth watching and decently enjoyable. I think the premise was revealed far too quickly but the writers just couldn't let the show go, for it to end, right then, which meant continuing the show from there, and I believe it was one of the factors that played into making the show not as enjoyable as it used to be. The ending of the third season was only the final nail in the coffin of which already had more than enough nails in it. The fourth season was desperately grasping on straws just to continue the show.

Also, what was the point of Matthew's death? Like, what? It's like the writers thought, "Hey, let's have this almost face-to-face proximity shootout and have someone die because that's probably what would realistically happen. Even though we've never shown any realism in the show before, let's prove that we can, at times. Oh, and it's the final season, so why not? Wait, who can we kill that we view as expendable? Matthew? Awesome!" He could still alive and Patterson lied to everyone else, for some reason, and he'll be brought back in the next episode, just like with Patterson, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised. But most of the people who still watch this show seem to be, every single time.

I wonder what Ivy's deal is. Sure, she's apart of the Dabbur Zann, but I wonder if her desire to have (and use, I imagine) the ZIP bombs is more than being a recurring, prominent face of the Dabbur Zann. At the end of the episode, she seemed a little desperate. A little more than you'd think from a throwaway character who's a terrorist. It could be interesting if she had some sort of acquaintanceship with Sandstorm or if she used to be with them. Maybe we'll get to know a little backstory about her. I mean, there are only two episodes left so I doubt it. She's probably just a generic villain with nothing more to the character.

Overall, I guess I'm sort of interested to see and know how this will conclude, and how the show will end. It was a long time coming, longer than it should've been, and way too dragged out, but it's time to put this show to rest. I hope it won't be that bad of a conclusion to the show. It certainly won't be extremely good, I'd imagine. But if it isn't that bad, that should be enough.

loading replies

"...have the torch passed on to someone else to stretch things even further."

I don't know. I haven't watched the next ep yet, but I had the impression at the end of this one that Madeline had already placed her zip-fueled life-mission endgame into place, that Ivy and the Dabbur Zann were just tools to be lied to and used (and are thus have just been left out to dry) by Madeline.

But I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Time travel is my favorite thing in the world. Literally nothing gives me more joy than a ragtag team in a futuristic vessel visitng different points in history. Whether it's Doctor Who, Legends of Tomorrow (the only good Arrowverse show we have left, I said what I said), Timeless (deserved 7 seasons tbh) or now Agents of SHIELD, the serotonin rush I get from watching some chaotic neutrals running around in period clothing is indescribable. Can't wait to see what our favorite Agents plus Sousa are gonna do (and more importantly, wear) now that they're in the 70s (that song at the end is from the 70s, right?). Another thing that I love to see in my TV shows are film noir episodes. Framing Coulson's inner monologue and the black and white as his systems malfunctioning was pretty nifty. The whole intrigue with Sousa's death was well-crafted and I'm glad he's gonna stick around. Poor Enoch got absolutely no love, hopefully he will be reunited with the team eventually. May being an empath is so cool! Didn't see that coming but looking back it makes perfect sense. Overall, this episode was a blast. Season 7 has really forced me to reconsider my top 10. The showrunners said that this season was an opportunity for them to have fun and celebrate the show and it definitely shows.

And now, for the next episode in my Top 10 (that you're undoubtedly chomping at the bit to see):
2x10 "What They Become"
Season 2 was really hard to narrow down since it's one of my favorites. Another strong contender from the first half of that season was 2x05 "A Hen in the Wolf House", which gets an honorable mention because it gave us Bobbi Morse and finally revealed what Jemma had been up to while she was gone. But "What They Become", just like "Turn, Turn, Turn" from last week, was a total game changer for the show. This is the episode where Skye meets her father and learns that her name is actually Daisy, this is the episode where she goes through Terrigenesis and we get a first glimpse of her powers. When she quaked off that cocoon... that was a cultural reset. This was a mid-season finale to rule all mid-season finales, which combined with an unbearable 3-MONTH-LONG (!!!) break afterwards puts it in the iconic category instantly.

"Poor Enoch got absolutely no love..."

I was actually disappointed (for Enoch) when Deke called and Enoch immediately presumed that Deke would just want to be connected to the Zephyr, not noticing at all that Deke actually sounded pretty excited to talk to Enoch...

I don‘t get it why Nora Allen is presenting herself now. She was hanging around all season so why now? The only thing i could think of that she shouldnt‘ had helped barry destroy the satellite and now she‘s changing her future ...
But I‘m definitely looking forward to see this getting all unriddleded in the next season.

Could be a little like the Legends of Tomorrow finale resolution, in that what they did in the end to tip the scales and save the day had a side-effect that'll blow up in their faces later... I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
