The Real Hunt for Red October

Turned it off after fifteen minutes and I am a big Clancy fan.
It's the attempt to sell the conspiracy theory than Tom Clancy wasn't who he claimed to be. Which is, an insurance agent who wrote a great novel. This "docu" is trying to sell you a different story full of "maybe this" and "maybe that" and I'm not buying it.

Midway

Turned it off after 15 minutes. First of all it looks awful. Now, the trailer already looked bad but I thought this was due to the fact the scenes weren't quite finished. If 100m $ gets you this cheap looking CGI than they better stop making movies at that budget.
The nail in the coffin was right at the Pearl Harbour attack. You don't hit battleships with 7,7mm aircraft guns and they just explode everywhere. And if I remember correctly when the bomb hit the Arizona hundreds of sailors died instantly. Yet here they are right where the bomb hits and they survive. I don't want a documentary but that's so Hollywood it's unbearable. Stopped right there. Not waisting another two hours.

Car SOS: Special 3 Ultimate Blags

A car show that deliberately destroys cars isn't a car show at all.
I love this show and I have shed a tear or two when they gave the cars back to their owners. I've turned off both of those awful specials and if they don't go back to the usual format than this was the last episode I've watched.

American Muscle Car

I love cars, especially old cars. Since there aren't many car documentaries around (car docus not car building reality shows) I gave this a slightly higher rating than it deserves. Nonetheless it shows some great cars and has lots of original footage and the info content is good, too. You know what ? On second thought it totally deserves the high rating.

I usually watch all animated superhero stuff but the title alone made me avoid this.

You hear that all you casting wannabe superstars ?

Blade Runner 2049

Let´s just start be saying I am not a fan of the first Blade Runner and I didn't think it needed a sequel. But, who knows, 2049 could be something, right ?
Well I am about 30 min into it and nothing really happened. The little that did could have been told in about, say, 5-10 minutes? The rest was style and atmosphere. With 136 minutes left I quit because I am certain I would have regretted watching more.
So this is not a review on the movie put rather a recommendation to those who did not like the first one to just skip this. It's my subjective, personal opinion. I won't even rate it.

Crashes That Changed Flying

Very superfical. They cover several incidents within every episode which comes to less then 10 min per. And if you have watched Mayday you know those incidents already anyway

Bombing War: From Guernica to Hiroshima

Again I have to subtract at least 10 % for re-colouring and sound effect overdubbing of original footage. I simply think it isn´t appropriate.

I am a fan of the Australian Touring Cars so I knew of Peter Brock but I was so bored I turned it off after 40 min.

Man On The Moon with Walter Cronkite

This stuff is old. And by old I mean really old. Newest material is from early/mid 80ies, most of it though from the 60s. It´s not a typical docu, it`s a recollection oftentimes only the pictures without any narrative. Still with hours of original and untampered footage this has some merit. But propably only if you really have an interest in the subject.

Battleground Vietnam: 1954-1975

It's not bad in general. Unfortunately they are using the same footage over and over again even within one episode. So while this still is original footage it sure isn`t always from the event they are talking about.

Hunters in the Sky

Since this is an older production it contains nothing new in terms of footage and/or content. And every episode is only a bit over 20 min long so it's a bit superfical. But with the amount of eye witness accounts, not only from american pilots, this still is worth watching.

The Wil Wheaton Project

I like a lot of the shows mentioned but is that supposed to be funny? Cause I don't think it is.

Expedition: Bismarck

The pictures of the wreck are amazing and they reveal what really happened back then. But overall it's too Hollywood for a serious documentation.

NASCAR: Driven To Win

Boring. Loosely cut together crap with little content in poor VHS quality.

Even as a longttime NASCAR fan I could not stand to watch this.

Spartacus: Specials

I am fully aware of the sad events that led to this part of the show but I still have issues with it.

My main problem was that I was not interested in seeing origins of characters who I know to be killed. Batiatus wasn't a great character to beginn with. He was an upstart, a wannabe, basically an a**e all the time and why do I care about the reasons ? Most of the story we already knew, we just hadn't seen it. Gannicus and his story could have been done like intended - in a one episode flashback.

Plus this all suffers from the usual prequel problems. If you know a character doesn't die there is no exitement by putting him in dangerous situations.

Maybe it would be better, now that the option is there, to watch this before the first season. There are sure pros and cons about that. But I guess you could as easily just skip it.

Babylon 5: 5x15 Darkness Ascending

It's sad that a writer who came up with one of the greatest stories ever on a TV show has reached a point where he has no new ideas.

Another war with the Centauri as the enemy. Garibaldi still an alcoholic, Liz coming back. Lyta still running around trying to find a place for the telepaths. The whole Byron arc didn't change a thing. Why she didn't went to G'Kar in the first place I don't know. It's so obvious.

I can only repeat myself - in itself this isn't bad. But measured against what came before it 's not great.

Another mixed bag of an episode.

The part about the Hyachs and the genocide they committed I found really interesting and I would like to have seen more about the morals. I was really dissapointed by Franklin's response. Saying he can't forgive them despite they clearly show regret over what happened and know it was wrong. They themselves are not responsible. The Ambassador was even willing to get it out in the open and yet Franklin can't come down from his high horse ? Maybe he should think about what attrocities humans commited in their past.

Unfortunately the episode focusses once again on the telepath sect. And that is about as interesting as being stuck in quicksand. Now we even get a sex scene which is something this show definately does not need.
