As you can see, it's a short season, and (imo) they didn't do too well with introducing the characters. Personally I heard one or two names (and even saw their faces) for the first time when someone was calling them. But like in the third or fourth episode.
There are about 3 characters who we get pretty decent amount of background info of (Sylvie, Mathieu and Ayaz), a few others who we get snippets of, and a few who we know just about the name, face and occupation of, and that's it. The series tried to concentrate on one person at a time (at least judging by the episode names), but they failed to show many characters' potential and past life.
Other than this bigger issue, Into the Night did awesome for me. The cast is good, the core idea (that the sunrays kill people) and the scenes (although sometimes predictable) kept me wanting to see more and now I'm definitely regretting watching the season knowing that the continuation will probably come next year.
And some problems/questions that occurred to me while watching the episodes:
- I didn't find it realistic that these many minorities could live in Belgium/Brussels that a "regular" plane has people of Italian, Moroccan, Turkish, Russian, Polish etc. ethnicity, so I looked it up, and was surprised to see that it could be an absolutely real scenario. Though it still bugs me a bit that they might've just overdone it with the huge variety of ethnicities, occupations and reasons of travelling for the sake of the show.
- At first they showed some interest in the animal that Dominik saw, but it didn't go much further than a few sentences. I know they had to run back to the plane, but I think in that situation people would be curious about how could an animal live through the sunrays. (We were even shown a dead rat(?) later in that episode or the next one, so they made it clear that not every animal could survive the light.)
- It may have been an inaccurate translation in the subs, but when they went to the base in the last episode, the nurse (sorry, I forgot her name) said that Terenzio had sex with Ines as if it was a fact. But wasn't that part just Terenzio's dream? Idk, she may have said it only as an assumption (that Terenzio looked at Ines like that), but the word-by-word subs said otherwise.
- There were some scenes similar to my point above, that the passengers pointed out or assumed something (like X and Y definitely did it while they were, idk, counting food) as if it was an obvious fact, but we, the viewers, got shown nothing. So sometimes it was like the characters knew/saw some things that we didn't. Which is another downside of the short season.
I was reading through the comments and was surprised that some people think Otis is trash this season... Literally the party scene was the only one where he did wrong so far. He's been dealing with his mom and Jakob's relationship (+ Jakob's personality), Ola, Maeve, his own and other people's sex-related problems for a long time - who wouldn't explode at some point?
Just like how Jackson had enough of one of his mother's dictatorship and almost broke down (well, technically with the self-harm he already did) and how Eric stood up face-to-face to Adam and told him his honest thoughts (yaaas, so proud! I was actually afraid that he would change his mind and back down, but I'm so glad that there's a character in existence who doesn't choose the "bad guy" bully at the end!). These characters had enough too, yet I don't see anyone bashing them. And Otis has/had a lot more on his plate than these two.
I'm conflicted about Maeve now. Last time I wrote that they're basically soulmates with Otis, and I really thought that... but then Isaac came, and now I'm kinda rooting for him? But I'm also rooting for Maeve just concentrating on herself? And also rooting for Otis to apologize and speak to Maeve about his feelings while he's sober?
Since Maeve and Otis are 2 of the 3 main characters, and almost the whole SE1 was about them starting to like each other, I guess they'll end up together, but it wouldn't be a first of this show to give things a twist and pair Maeve up with Isaac.
Jackson and Viv are getting closer, yaay! I mean, that was a strong gut feeling right from their first meeting, but it's still nice to see Viv starting to care more about Jackson (and vice versa), little by little.
I came to watch this movie with high expectations - hearing about all its nominations and seeing all the positive feedback. It disappointed me. Very big time.
Most of the scenes and dialogues in the first hour didn't make any sense. The two guys developed feelings from nothing, they barely even encountered or hung out with each other - let alone did something memorable that would lead to catching feelings for one another.
Like how other people commented here, the supporting characters had absolutely no role in the storyline, hell, maybe even the parents had unnecessary roles. But the most disappointing fact is that even the two main characters had no depth, no logical thoughts and actions. I get that Elio is supposed to be a 17-year-old, but even a teenager hasn't got that much random stuff going on in their head and in their actions as he does.
The sad thing is that the actors had a great chemistry but this storyline and these dialogues just stomped all that built-up passion into the ground. Like WTF was that scene with penetrating that poor peach?! Or that one where the movie got its title from? Why would you ask your loved (in this case, "loved") one to call you by their own name instead of yours? That's just f*cked up...
There were only 3 things I liked about this movie: the BGMs, the scenery and the penultimate scene when the father gives all that smart advice to Elio. This story had so much potential, but I guess people who read the book were right - this movie totally ruined it. I should've just read the book.
I was really sceptic about this movie but was also looking forward to it - since gay relationships in South Korean series/movies are as taboo as in real life. I think I got a little result of both in this 1,5 hours.
The growing attachment of the characters to each other was not portrayed at all. Jae Ha gave Young Woo books and tips, the younger one read and accepted them. They went collecting props together. After that they shared their first kiss. Seems like we missed out on a lot between these events...
Speaking of... in the first hour the scenes changed too abruptly. They didn't have a closure, we don't know how much time went by between them, and sometimes they were even illogical.
The dialogues were off too at times. Like I understand that the point was to mix the Unchain script with their real emotions, but it could've been clearer.
Not to mention the WTF ending and Young Woo's intention with all the breaking-in-Jae-Ha's-house and making-Jae-Ha-believe-that-he-actually-killed-Hee-Won parts.
At least that theatre perfomance kept me on edge with all the real struggling and Young Woo's double-hanging, but after the climax (when we learn that Young Woo didn't actually die) it just became super weird and awkward with everyone going back to their original life like nothing ever happened.
I hope that SK will go in this direction because the idea and the actors were so good - they should just make a better plot and better cutscenes. But I'm really glad they're finally trying to bring this taboo onscreen.
My friend really recommended me this movie after she saw it, so I decided to follow her example. Well... I was disappointed.
The concept is fine: texting a stranger about the most guarded secret of both of you, and finding out who's the one you've been talking with. The problem is that most of the scenes were really exaggerated. The blackmailing, the love polygon between a group of friends, the friends being everything but friends in the time of need (even if they had their reasons to be mad at Simon; he explained all that and said sorry too), then the ex-friends becoming friendly again without any transition... [Edit: Sorry, the word of the day must've been "friend" for me...] And I didn't even mention all the clichés (Martin's super nerdiness, cyber- and public bullying, etc).
I didn't feel the development of the feelings at all. Simon literally fell in love with a stranger by sending a few e-mails back and forth with him. He ran out of class after just the first message he sent to check if Blue had answered him. I don't think this obsessiveness suits Simon's character.
I enjoyed the guess-who-is-Blue game (hell, I even participated), but the result was truly disappointing. Not because it was who it was, but because it had no logic in it. IMO they should've sneaked some of Blue's said things (like the Oreo or the Jon Snow crush) to Bram. Or maybe he should've gotten more screentime so the viewers could actually guess who Blue was, khm.
[Edit: Okay, I just remembered that when Martin flirted at the cafeteria with Abby, he a told a joke like "what do you call a black jew? - Blue". Now, that was some pretty dope foreshadowing!]
I loved the acting, fell in love with Nick Robinson, but sadly his talent wasn't enough to make this movie acceptable for me.
I don't know if I should laugh or cry at Jessica&Mark's situation anymore. Like all of these outsider commenters, I, too, can obviously tell that Jessica is still hung up on Barnett and has been wanting him for herself ever since the pods. So why can't Mark see it? I mean, it's one thing if you're "blinded by love" (though I still don't know how can he love her with her sh*tty attitude), but you should be able to see if your partner is having more fun with another guy or when she's undermining and makes a fit out of literally everything you say.
I can somewhat see the realization on Barnett's face whenever he talks to Jessica face-to-face - whatever he's feeling, he's keeping his distance from her at least.
Sad that this reality show (and basically all others too) focuses much more on the obviously problematic people rather than the chill, genuine ones like Kenny and Kelly. I think only they will make it in the long run, maybe Lauren and Cameron too. But it's visible that Kenny and Kelly don't feel the need to cling onto each other all the time, and they're not making drama out of anything. They're chill and cute.
I came with high expectations since it's a well-known horror, but these almost 40 years didn't do any good to it, it seems.
The actings were terrible, I swear the little boy did the best of 'em all. Jack was overdoing it by a mile (even when he was still sane), and Shelley (Wendy) was like as if she read the lines from a screen. Scatman (Mr. Hallorann) did kinda good.
At first the pace was nicely slow, then it became boring, then it straight-up started randomly jumping around. The twins only appeared to Danny twice, the (seemingly) chemical-burned woman once, the bloodwave from the elevator was wtf, not even mentioning why did Jack call himself Johnny in the (probably) most iconic scene.
It mainly felt like a game of how-many-horror-elements-can-we-force-into-one-story. And I don't know if it's King's fault (him being the original author) or the movie was this poorly done regarding its logic. There were so many storylines introduced, yet almost all of them were just forgotten by the next scene. Why did Danny have that power? What exactly was that power? Why did the isolation have an effect on Jack but not on Wendy or Danny? (Well, Wendy did have a hallucination after Jack tried to chop her down, but then...) Why tf did Wendy hallucinate about a furry giving (and please, tell me I'm mistaken) a BJ to a man? And who choked Danny? Why did they hurt him?
These are just some of the questions left unanswered. Well, in fact, after watching the movie, I think I have more questions than answers. But at least I laughed a lot instead of being scared, and humanity gained some memes out of this movie.
So I'mma just slowly walk away and pretend I didn't see all the comments stating the total opposite of my opinion.
Okay, I couldn't hold these in any longer:
- Why didn't they put a knife in the "father"? I know, morality and all that jazz, but if they set their mind to kill him, wouldn't that be the most logical thought to try to actually kill him with a 100% sure method, not gamble with those crushed up pills?
- Why the hell didn't Margot just make a run for it when she opened the balcony's door? She stopped like 3 times just to make sure his "father" didn't hear anything instead of actually trying to escape.
- Lol, how TF could "father" dig a little hole into Seth's forehead just by pressing his finger into it?
- And what is Jules so depressed about since like episode 2? She's overreacting to everything, doesn't sleep, always has a dead look on her face... Oh, and...
- When Jules and Margot went through the House for the second time, why did it only contain Margot's fears in all of the rooms? I believe it would be time to know what Jules is so terrified of that she's on edge all the time.
As of the others who went in the House with them:
1) That bearded survivor guy knew too much about the system of the last "room". I'm sure he wasn't a first-timer, but then the question of his wife-or-not rises: who is she really? A girl who escaped from him and started a new life with a new husband in the House? But she didn't seem like she actually knew the bearded guy, so...
2) Remember those realistic face-statues of the participants in the first room? Only the JT replica's head wasn't torn apart. So how come he was killed by his House-self? Wouldn't that head signify that only he stayed sane or something like that? It's a shame they didn't think this through.
Random thoughts while watching the movie:
- That teacher didn't see at all that everyone was staring at Lynn's hand (or at least at her direction) who was sitting in the first row? Not even when only like 15 kids were left there writing the test? Lol.
- I get that they were mad at Bank who crashed their car's mirror (accidentally, I believe), but isn't beating up and throwing a teenager to a dump a bit... I dunno, exaggerated? [Lol, I wasn't suspecting foul play without a reason.]
- That barcode part is genius, but I don't really get how they want to realize that plan. It's not like they have the time or equipment to create pencils with the answers while they're taking the test. [Ah, okay, nevermind.]
- Bank's rage scene when he found out that Pat sent those jerks to beat him up was 12/10.
- That phone-in-the-tank-of-the-toilet plan could go wrong in so many ways. Like what if you can't take off the lid in the toilets of Sydney (or in that particular building)? Or what if someone uses that exact toilet you chose to hide the phone in in the break? All that planning can be ruined in a split second. [I really should be a fortune-teller...]
- Standing up right after the teachers says the word "break" is a liittle not so subtle.
- Wooah, that effect when Lynn slided across the exam room to the piano!
- Okay, now, I'm 103% sure that Lynn choking on her pencil was noticeable for... basically everyone in that quiet and still room. Yet somehow everyone acted so surprised to see her vomiting.
- Why are they chasing Lynn? Because she just left after throwing up? I don't think they have evidence on her since she hid the phone. And chasing her all the way down the streets and the metro station...
I was stunned by the acting. Good Thai actors are so hard to find, especially young ones, so I was really glad about the cast.
The planning of cheating on the high school tests and on the STIC one was mind-blowing. So creative methods!
I was a little meh about Bank turning into a mad businessman at the end - that's absoluety not his character (he almost threw up from actual anxiety or panic in the toilet!). It would've been somewhat believeable if they hadn't have gotten caught in Sydney - giving him adrenaline, money, good scores and all that jazz, but this way... I don't know. Though I guess that had to be done in order for Lynn to have her happy(ish) ending.
I would've watched this movie for a bit longer, just to know where the 4 main characters end up. Or to learn what kind if punishment did Lynn face at the end. I feel like this ending was left too open for the viewers.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. At first it seemed way too long, but now I understand why. The plot had its small holes (like every other one), but I would recommend it for anyone.
Okay, let me just stop right at the beginning before I continue with this episode... A panic attack? I had my fair share of those and in none of those situations was I even nearly close to collapsing and/or losing my consciousness. That looked a hellofa lot more like a heart attack. Panic attacks don't make you lose your balance or drop the milk that's in your hand. They might make you feel weak, you might need to sit down, your vision might go spotty or even pitch black for a really short period of time. And you might feel like you're about to collapse or even die, but you don't. That's a big difference between panic attacks and heart attacks.
Well, I just wrote like half an hour ago about Evan and Casey's relationship, aaand yup, here we are. I see Casey's side of the pizza place incident too, but let's be honest: Evan is in the right here. Pretty cliché TV show scenario, and it's usually the other way around (the guy having the elite friends and ending up offending the girl), it was still an okay scene here. Evan might have overreacted a bit since he felt somewhat threatened by Nate or that group as a whole basically taking Casey away from him, and he definitely felt a sour feeling of not belonging between the elite kids. Why I side with him though is that Casey does seem to share more about her private life to the Clayton kids than to Evan lately. And while Evan tries to get closer to Casey (in an emotional sense), she seems to have an overall avoidant behaviour towards him, or at least compared to the Clayton kids again.
HOW F*CKING DARE YOU MAKE MY BOY CRY?! Omg, I jokingly completed Teh's sentence with "let's just stay friends", and then he DARES to say the exact same thing to Oh?! After all that sexual tension from last episode and this one + the underwater smooch?! Oml... :person_facepalming::person_facepalming::person_facepalming: That's exactly why I preferred Bass-- hell, I'd prefer ANYONE over Teh. He checks his IG story several times to see if Oh had seen it, he chases Oh after school, he surprise-visits Oh in his house, but he'll nope out the second this all would mean a responsibility for him. I would maybe understand this if Teh would be a shy, introverted guy afraid of a relationship, but he's literally doing flirting and caring things on purpose, so no one can tell me he didn't see any of this coming...
At this point I'd seriously be happy for a "sad ending" if that means Oh won't end up with Teh. I'm guessing OhBass won't happen, so now I'm hoping for the second best option: Oh staying single. Single, but strong af.
And now he's playing with my girl, Tarn, too! OMG! How the hell can not one person but TWO PEOPLE love this kind of mofo? Like seriously, I'm not even kidding. He's trash!
So proud of Tarn though that she dealt with this maniac like he should've been dealt with. Both her and Oh (+ Bass, ofc) are awesome characters, and their actors did an amazing job in this series! On the other hand, Teh is a piece of sh*t character, and his actor's "acting" just makes him look even more of a psycho, ngl.
Did he... actually post a "feel sorry for me" IG story... while he was ugly-crying? See, this is why he doesn't deserve Oh (or Tarn, or anyone for that matter). He's just so egotistical... Think about it. If you're actually feeling sh*t, you wouldn't post a picture about it just to get attention, right? At first I actually thought he was going for a selfie, omg, that would've been even more pathetic... But this back-and-forth between his and Oh's IG stories was pretty cringe as well.
HAHAHA, IN YOUR FACE! :joy::joy::joy: I'm sorry, but that was 1000% deserved for Teh. We love badass gays. We love Oh.
Okay, I just can't hold it in anymore... This Bossman gives me so serious pervert vibes. His long(ing) stares, staying up late to wait for the new girl alone, the beer bottle incident, deciding that he wanted the new girl immediately when he saw her boobs (and slimness), asking for girl rankings from the boys and boy rankings from the girls (like how old is he? 13?), waiting in front of the playroom when the new girl and other new guy were there, doing those push-ups, talking about taking the new girl's "Rainbow Bridge virginity", applying lip balm on the new girl and kissing her afterwards... Dude, that person is disgustingly pervert. But I don't really have any feelings towards the new girl (other than that she seems stupid), so I guess this pair would be okay by me. Just leave the show, please, lol.
(Sometimes Kai gives off this vibe too, but not to the point where I dislike him.)
Oh, maybe Yume isn't as stupid as I thought? I mean, she visibly wasn't pleased when Boss did all that shit, but she always continued with a smile as if nothing had happened. So I was wondering the same as the hosts: does she really like Boss but isn't happy with how fast he wanna move forward or is she just a slut? xd I hope it's the first one, and I also hope that even if Shion doesn't end up with Vivi, he won't end up with Yume either.
Oof, I kinda agree with the girls here and kinda not. I'm a shy person too, so asking people out is definitely not my forte - but then I don't apply to a show where this aspect is pretty important. So I get where for example Ruka's anxieties come from (though imo it doesn't make him feminine if he's shy a bit), but it's still a little disappointing because they're literally in a show dedicated to guys and girls living together and asking each other out for dates.
I wouldn't categorize the other two guys under the "disappointing" label because they just seem to not have a crush on any of the girls. Like they mentioned, Shohei asking Kaori out was a big first step, but he really seems disinterested in her now (romantically). And Kenny... Well, he's a bit of a mystery for me at the moment - he expressed (physical) interest in Haruka, on the other hand I still think he's the cutest and most chill with Kaori.
Ruka climbing up the stairs on all fours is a big mood. xD
He was sooo cuuute! Although I still think it's just an "it didn't work out with Haruka, I see Risako only as a friend... let's see the last option!" kinda excuse. Like no, women (and men) are not just other options if something doesn't turn out well with the one you wanted. I despise the "somebody is better than nobody" mentality, so I truly hope he's genuine with Kaori.
Mkay, I'm not gonna declare that I like Haruka or hate Risako, but that was a reeeeally bitch move of the latter at the end... It was so clear that Risako wanted to humiliate Haruka (or at least make the situation awkward between her and Kenny) that I just wanted to slap her in the face. Not understanding others' feelings - my ass... of course you do, and you used it against a person who trusted you with theirs even though she was uncomfortable with telling.
I applaud Haruka for still trying to talk it out with Risako. Maybe it was because of the cameras, maybe it was genuine, but I, for one, definitely couldn't have faced(? Is it the right tense? idk anymore xd) Risako with a smile and kindly phrased questions after that. So kudos for Haruka, and a medium "fuck you" to Risako.
"I understand that I hurt you." - Sooo... still no apology? And Eric wants this guy more than Rahim? Ughhh... Don't want to be a d*ck, but I really hope that Eric will experience Adam not being able to catch him. The only moment I almost teared up was when I saw Rahim crying. I really like his character, it's a shame that Eric just had to choose Adam anyway. I mean, of course, feelings should come first (most of the time) if you choose a partner, but I just don't get how can he fall for and choose his dumb ex-bully over a sweet, honest and smart guy. This plotline was a huge disappointment.
Viv and Jackson, on the other hand, were adorable! They were so cute hugging and holding hands while walking! Even if just as friends (for now, hihi).
Oh, how much I knew that Isaac would delete Otis' voice message... I get that he wants Maeve for himself, but using dirty tricks to achieve that because he knows he'll lose the fair way... Back to 100% Team Otis.
I didn't really like Erin from the start, it was pretty obvious that she was gonna start using again, especially when she was caught in her lie about her being fired. I really pitied Maeve for having to deal with a "mother" like this - after being neglected and abandoned by her in her childhood, she comes back, makes Maeve believe that she's changed, then ruins her life again by starting the vicious cycle from the beginning. And she dares to say she'll never forgive her own child for reporting her for the sake of saving Elsie from what her other children had gone through. (Oof, this sounded a lot less difficult of a sentence in my head. xD)
Anyway, Maeve is a wonderful and brave human being. I just hope she won't date Isaac for too long in the next season before getting to know the truth about Otis' feelings (because I guess this will happen, too, if they went cliché with the "bad guy" topic regarding Eric).
Not to downgrade Pharm's... feelings(?), but why was he so against Dean starting kissing and touching him (both in a "non-animal" way)? Like they kissed many times before, they held hands, they hugged, they slept together in a bed, so why get mad at Dean for trying to take a bigger step? (Again, it's totally Pharm's right to say no, I just don't understand it since Dean wasn't really violent or anything.)
[Oh, I just read that apparently in the novel it's actually explained that sometimes Korn takes over Dean, and somehow Pharm can recognize these moments, these "traits" as Korn's, that's why he pushed "Dean" (Korn) away. It actually makes a lot more sense like this. I'm sad that the series doesn't explain this at all.]
That part with the grandma clarifies this a little bit, but I'm still not sure if it's just Dean communicating Korn's thoughts or it's actually Korn talking (in the series, because now I know that it's Korn taking over sometimes in the novel, but idk about here).
Umm... Can someone tell me when did Win and Team get this close? Last I checked Win went bold with an obvious flirting, but that was it. And now Team just casually goes to sleep at Win's... at 1 AM. And apparently it's not the first time Team couldn't sleep. Ookaay...
Not that I'm against them, but see, this episode is full of rookie mistakes. Most of the people who watch these BLs don't read the novels they're based on. And instead of making either a remake of the novel or basing the series totally on it, Thais kinda mix these together and leave lots of parts out - making some scenes in the series random or too fast-paced. Thais reeeally need to work on this because the lack of logic in a relationship's development can ruin a story as much as the lack of good actors. :person_shrugging:
Thoughts while watching the movie:
- (Didn't take a look at the actors beforehand) First visible moment of the movie: "KANG HA-NEUL!" Omg, I love this actor so much.
- I almost never even flinch at jumpscares, only really rarely (thanks to Pewdiepie for making me almost immune xD), but that woman got me at the kinda beginning.
- Okay, this hyung either has a multiple personality disorder or he's living a double life, OR perhaps it really is all in dearest Kang Ha-neul's (Jin-seok's) head. That jumpscare woman definitely is, but idk about the hyung. Not wearing/needing his glasses, the limp disappearing, smoking, swearing...
- Either I didn't pay close attention (though I rewinded that part) or the hyung listed the taxi too at their fight even though Jin-seok didn't mention that to him. Hmm... [HA, I KNEW IT!]
- Okay, well, something is still wrong with Jin-seok too because he keeps seeing these weird dreams and hearing noises from that locked room. And I don't think that these have to do anything with Yu-seok (or "Yu-seok"), only if it's his torture room or something. :'D
- Ooooh, mom is in it too! Or, again, it's all in Jin-seok's head.
- Lol, "Mr. Park"? "Mr. Choi"? Are they doing some sick experiment on Jin-seok? Come to think of it, that mover guy even asked Jin-seok if Yu-seok is really his brother (Jin-seok laughing it off with an "I know we don't look alike" comment). HMM... At this point I'm not even sure if the medicine they give Jin-seok is really an anti-anxiety medicine. [Hehe, call me detective. xD] He first followed his hyung when he forgot to take it, so...
- I love that last time when Jin-seok stepped out after 12:30 AM, there were quite a few people, but when it's a chase where he would be in need of someone outsider, there's literally no one on the streets. :'D
- OH, SNAP. So I still bet either on the sick experiment or the brainf*ck. His "family" propped the house full of older stuff, they used flip phones, he even had a Discman... but how could he not notice all the modern sh*t when he stepped outside? Only when he went in the police station? And he never looked in a mirror before to not notice his age? Eh, maybe it is his mind playing games with him, not actual people.
- Wow. The plot is becoming too wow.
- Uhm... yeah. No wonder why did he erase that period from his memories.
- I don't get why did Jin-seok lie and protect that scum doctor, but I'm glad that the hyung (well, now dongsaeng, I guess) didn't believe it.
Sooo... I came to watch a thriller and be spooked, but that only worked for about 1 hour of the movie, the other (almost) half just made me sad. The ending was disappointing for me; I was hoping for something more of an experiment or hallucinations (like I tried to guess above), but at least it answered the first half of the movie.
So let's see what we got instead. A car accident, a broke and desperate survivor, a likewise broke and desperate father, an unfortunate accident, an unfortunate following semi-accident, a quarrel leading to a fatal accident... then, 20 years later, a sick interrogation method, and finally a double suicide.
And all I wanted was some spooks.
The first battle was a close one for me because I totally agreed with what the spectators said regarding both teams. YG shouldn't have done that awkward part with the music changing and all that jazz (even the voting people looked so confused), and when they mentioned that they couldn't hear what the AOMG contestants were saying (maybe only as a diss), I started to listen to that aspect. and they were actually right. But for me, YG's "mistake" was more noticeable, so I would've voted for AOMG.
Pffft. You don't want me to get started on this whole Brand New drama. (But I will anyway.)
San E and Verbal Jint are both mature, grown men. They made a decision on who to eliminate, and (if I remember correctly) they even mentioned that their decision took the longest time to make. They obviously made a choice of favoritism since Hanhae made a bigger mistake and he just happened to be the one who advanced under Brand New's wings. I get that after hearing mentors, contestants and fans of the show express their negative opinions about this decision, they regretted their choice. But the show must go on. If they don't give contestants a second chance after a bad performance, they shouldn't give mentors a change of judgement either. It's unfair to all the contestants and mentors.
I 100% agree with and understand Hanhae's, Black Nut's and Team ZiPal's feelings. It was pure nonsense to change Hanhae to Black Nut when 1) Hanhae's been working really hard to make up for his mistake, 2) Black Nut was furious because of his elimination and the producers asking him to come back (and I can totally understand him TBH), 3) Team ZiPal was already done(?) or half-done with lyrics regarding dissing Hanhae so they had to change at least Mino's verse entirely.
This show is getting more and more ridiculous with its stunts.
1) Poor Patrick doesn't deserve this.
2) Ari is, has been, and most probably will continue to be the biggest b*tch of this series. Seriously, I have no idea why does every second guy fall for her in Las Encinas. Prettiness is one thing, that's preference, and I'm not gonna say anything rude towards the actress - but the character is so annoying, selfish and vain among other things, that I am just baffled that even the amazing guys like Nico want her. Both him and Patrick were totally right, they summed up Ari in this season (if not in the whole series): she's just out for men (well, specifically one body part of them), and she's ruining everything good she has with her behaviour and by drinking all the time. At this point, I would watch the series even faster if the next season would start with Ari bleeding out. Yes, I know, too harsh. But damn, she's annoying af.
3) Isa is adorable. Dídac is adorable. Polite. Patient. Understanding. Amazing. I love them separately, and I sure as hell will love them when they end up together. Isa deserves a loving and trusted guy like Dídac. I hope the creators of the show won't screw this up, and we'll finally get to see one healthy couple. Please.
4) Oh, Sara... Other than Mencía's advances on her a few times, she (Mencía) did a wonderful job trying to help and guide Sara. Explaining that she's been through this too. Understanding her. Fighting for her even when she (Sara) herself doesn't see things clearly.
I might belong to a small camp here, but I totally understand and accept Lea's answer. If you look at it from her perspective, just think of how thoughtful of a decision it is to give up on your own feelings because you don't want to be a burden with your baggage to that person. And yes, she has to put herself first because it's her life. Doesn't matter if we're talking about an autistic person, a drug addict, a handicapped one, a depressed one... if someone feels like no matter how much they love that person, they just can't deal with them in some way, that someone has every right to reject the other one. (They have a right either way, but you get what I'm trying to say.)
Even from the "other side", as someone with anxiety and depression, I don't want to be with someone who can't deal with the shit that comes with these mental illnesses. Because, sadly, even though I'm healing, they still shape my mentality and way of thinking in certain ways. So it's only natural for me to not want my partner to bend over backwards for me or feel uncomfortable/scared/annoyed/etc. just because they don't know how to deal with me when I have an anxiety attack, for example.
From Lea's POV, she knows her "faults", weaknesses, pet peeves, etc., and if she needs a boyfriend who, idk, hugs her a lot for example, she won't choose Shaun. Why do some ppl in the comments think Lea should give up her wants and needs in a relationship just to make Shaun, who happens to be autistic, happy? Fuck that. I totally get Shaun. It was a hard and brave decision for him to tell Lea how he feels. But no one is obligated to get into a relationship with him and cut down on their own needs just because Shaun is autistic. Both parties deserve happiness, comfortableness and their needs met in a relationship. If Lea doesn't want to compromise that much just to please Shaun, that's entirely understandable.
The execution could be a lot better (not this cringe, overdone acting), but the main message is super important and well-shown: don't jump into conclusions. You're not a mind-reader. You can never be sure what the other person is thinking unless you ask them about it (and, well, even then you may not get the truth out of them).
And it's not just with romantic relationship stuff like "Is he grossed out that I touched his hand?" or "Why doesn't he say anything while eating lunch?" - it applies to every type of interpersonal relationship. "Why did she cancel the meetup just a few hours before it?" - maybe that person has an anxiety disorder. "Why doesn't my friend want to hug me?" - maybe they don't like skinship but they still care about you. "When will he finally stop people-pleasing?" - maybe it's a coping mechanism from childhood.
So yeah, I really love how these episodes encourage people to talk to their SO and friends to clear misunderstandings and lingering questions. Communication is key in every kind of relationship.
The volleyball guy (Toyoda?) is sooo adorable looking out for Ida, supporting him and cheering him on subtly!
The last bit was truly amazing. That's what I want(ed) more of in this drama. People realizing that lesbian/gay/bi/etc. people aren't gonna hit on everyone from the gender they're attracted to. Just like how straight people don't get the hots for everyone from the opposite sex. I, as a straight female, can have a sibling-love towards a younger boy, a friend-love towards a guy my age, a respect-love towards an older man teacher of mine - and everything in between. Or nothing at all! Because I don't feel strong emotions towards every male I encounter.
Therefore, as it was explained in this episode in a simple and easily understandable way, Aoki (however he identifies) can feel a brotherly bond towards the tutor guy - nothing romantic because those feelings of his are only towards one person: Ida.
It's pretty weird that compared to how sh*tless scared/confused every party was at the big reveal (Pran, Pat, both their friend groups and the other like 15 people casually witnessing the scene), now every friend of Pat is okay with their relationship, no questions asked, and even Pran and Pat are immediately comfortable with being seen together now that the cat's out of the bag. And no, I don't mean that they should treat this as a big deal, it's just a really illogical storyline that they were hiding even their cat-and-mouse friendship from all of their friends and the university, yet now that everyone knows they're boyfriends, they don't seem to care about the "consequences" at all.
Pran's friends only accepting his relationship with Pan after the rugby win (where Pran didn't take part in) is... certainly an interesting plot choice.
That "gun" was literally pointing down. Like not even feet-down but actually away from both of them, on the ground. So how tf should we believe that Pat's abdomen got shot from that angle? I mean, apart from believing that a scenario like that would even exist in real life... a Thai uni guy carrying a gun with him and waving it around to intimidate some rugby guys who he lost a match to... :person_facepalming:
Ugh, these lame cliché plot "twists" are making the show a lot less enjoyable. Just once give us a Thai BL series which doesn't have any of the cliché plot twists...
Oof, I knew Casey was younger than Sam, and we knew that Sam is 18, but still... She just turned 16? So she slept with a (probably?) adult guy when she was just 15? Huuuuge yikes. :grimacing: Drawback of casting actors and actresses being and looking 10 years older than the role they're supposed to play.
Aaand there is my prediction about Casey and Izzy... Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against a girl&girl couple, I just think the storytelling was too off to make them a pair. It was kinda rushed with Evan too, but at least he wasn't a douche like Izzy. And how Izzy said she was afraid of losing someone she loved (aka Casey, as it turned out), like... then she would've believed her, not Nate. Then she wouldn't have acted like a dick yet again. Then she wouldn't have written 'ho' and 'slut' on Casey's shoes. These are NOT things you do out of love. Everything in this (obviously starting) relationship screams toxic. And I said it before, I'll say it again: I'm truly debating on continuing this show if (or more like when) they make the poor choice of putting the girls together in a couple.
I could kinda sense this in the previous episode too, and I'm really hoping I'm wrong, but it seems that maybe there will be more between Casey and Izzie? It's just suspicious that Casey and Evan's relationship is going way too good, like even if there are some bumps here and there, they are able to talk it out and resolve it relatively quickly, within 1-2 episodes max. So I'm thinking (or _over_thinking lol) that maybe Casey will want something more exciting like her daytime drinking with Izzie, who, btw, totally gets her situation (basically having to be a mom for her siblings).
Like I said, I'm really hoping I'm wrong but something does feel fishy about this situation for me. Evan is the sweetest guy I've seen in a TV show since many-many years (or ever), and not in the I'll-do-anything-for-you-my-queen way but in an actually believable, real-life scenario way. He's funny, loving, caring and patient. He wants to solve their occasional problems with Casey, but he's not being pushy or a dick about anything. He knows boundaries - and that's probably the best way to describe him. Their chemistry with Casey is super good. So if they end up breaking up, I'll seriously debate to continue with this show because that would be the dumbest decision ever to separate them.
OMG, I'm back in the game after a month, and a Thai BL series' first episode's first minute just threw shade at the BL scripts that contain sexual harassment and pass it on as romantic gestures??? HELL YES!! :muscle::heart_eyes:
Damn, I want to learn how to fiddle with a pen like that :joy:
I really hope that 'Bad Engineer' (the title of Gene's first BL) is also a shade thrown at all the cliché Thai BLs where the protagonists are studying as engineers :joy:
So I have a question for my fellow BL lovers. I've been googling Kaownah and Turbo because I didn't know who they were when those interviewers and fans spotted them. I thought it was a crossover of some kind when a couple of an existing BL series pops up in a new show as guest stars. But I couldn't find any existing shows where they were together. Like I saw that they're here as guests and on Oxygen as guests (I still remember that, lol), but not as characters, they are called by their real name. But even after looking them up, I couldn't find any source of their "origins", like did they get famous for being together on IG/Twitter or somewhere? They've been cast on a show together, but that will come out in the future, so how are they this well-known already?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer! :hugging:
Did I just witness another shade when they hinted at some BL writers being a pain in the ass to work with when adapting the novel into a series? :joy: Istg, I don't mind the usual cringe "funny" scenes, all this tea is making up for it!:tea:
I wonder why they brought up that casting an IRL gay person may cause problems. (Was it because of the drama between Mew and Art?) I mean, sure, there's always a chance that a gay guy will fall in love with their also guy co-actor... but it's basically the same risk as in hetero series with a female and a male lead, so... :person_shrugging:
Ooh, I would've caught that girl too, ngl!
Eh, really disliking the moving-in part, I hate that in any kind of story. If there's actually a legit reason why it would make sense, then I'm okay with it, but 99% of these kinda plots couldn't be applied to real life because let's face it - no one wants to move in with a basically random stranger (unless it's only about sharing the costs, but that would be a whole another story).
I don't want to jinx it too early, so I'm not gonna write the sentence what I want yet, just gonna emphasize how proud I am of my boy, Bass. He poured his heart out to Oh in front of the whole class as a total introvert! Damn, I'd love a SO in my life like him... :sob:
Okay, I get the part where Teh doesn't know how can he like a guy if all his life he was attracted to girls. That would be a bit frightening for me too. But the "If I date him, how can I tell my friends?" part... Bish just proved again that all that matters is him and how others look at him. Bass literally told that he liked Oh in front of the whole class - girls, boys, their friends and even their teacher! How did their friends react? They didn't care (in the phrase's positive meaning)! So why would it have been different if it was Teh instead of Bass?
Anyway, I'm not complaining, I'm still waiting for the outcome to see if I can write that sentence down. :joy:
I was actually cheering with Tarn, the guys, Bass and Oh, wth! I may be a little too invested in this story... :joy:
I... don't understand... When Oh ran back to Bass I was happy at first, then I was like "wait, what if it's his goodbye to Bass?", and now I'm confused because it didn't seem like that, but Oh apologized to Bass for not being ready (or not wanting) to see Teh sad. So... what now?
Yup, thought so that this will get a shit ending. Teh doesn't deserve Tarn as his friend and definitely not Oh as his boyfriend. But if Oh is that stupid to go to him instead of Bass even though Bass never once treated him wrong but Teh yes... That just means that Oh is an idiot. :person_shrugging:
I would've given this much more points if it would've finished with Bass and Oh together, but hey - Thai BLs often have a habit of romanticizing psychos, stalkers and abusive people, so I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise that Oh ended up with the narcissistic and possessive main character instead of the genuine and caring supporting character...
That coconut-smelling action was... pretty disturbing, ngl. Like watching a serial killer's or stalker's perversion.
On the other hand, Bass and Oh's interactions are so cute. Now I really-really wish they'd end up together instead of Oh and Teh. Teh is controlling, not at all empathetic, he just wants to compete and be better than others. I bet that there will be a part in the series where he thinks of Bass as a rival just because Oh want to spend more time with him.
So Teh really doesn't see what both Tarn and Oh see? That he wakes up at 4AM for Oh, but not for Tarn? That he hates even the smell of coconuts, but one long sniff into Oh's hair which smells like coconut, and now he ate it and bathed with coconut-scented shower gel? That he sent Oh a "tell me when you're get home" message too? (Though this last one doesn't mean much, we say/message this to each other with my friend too, haha.)
That weird piano piece definitely suited how out of control Teh must've felt, lol. He literally stayed behind pondering why didn't Oh pick him as a roommate? A possessive guy instead of a sweet and caring boy? Hmmm... (I know Oh only wanted to make Teh jealous, but still.) I can't say this enough: I really hope Oh will end up with Bass.
I'LL THROW CHAIRS. Oh actually made my precious Bass sad! :sob: I know the struggles of not being too assertive, that's why I can't believe Oh actually said "I'll invite Mod and the others too. The more, the merrier." when HIS LITERAL CRUSH ASKED HIM OUT. Well, I guess Bass isn't his crush anymore...
Okay, ngl, that beach scene was pretty good, so I got swayed... And since apparently Oh now doesn't feel anything towards Bass... But poor Bass... :sob:
Aaaaaand back to creepiness with that paper-smelling...
So uhm... After all this sexual tension in the episode's second half, you're not gonna give us anything? Like damn, Teh's actor leveled up quite a bit with these steamy interactions! (I'm still kinda OhBass, but I think I have to let that outcome go... :joy:)
The cameraman having a 3-min seizure during the fighting part did no good for the outcome. Seriously, why shake the camera / add a shaking effect for a long amount of time? It only makes people dizzy. That blood pouring out of Luis's head with serious lag issues was a joke too.
The plot... Well, yeah, it was clear last episode that it wasn't Luis because this show has just only started, so of course they won't reveal the sicko (changed the "mastermind" to this more accurate noun, lol) right away. I'm suspecting the secretary now since she observed Sofi pretty well + she loves the gossip. Though idk what her motive would be with all this... My other suspect is Alex, not (only) because she helped Gerry get out, but she, too, seems to read people well. Plus, it was even said by Sofi that Alex doesn't like anyone, soo...
I guess I'll find out the answers to some of my questions in the next episodes (like if Sofi and that man are in a relationship or do they want to keep their meetings a secret because of another reason), but I was dumbfounded when they kept repeating that Pablo was cheating on Isa, so either I missed something in the video or somewhere else, or it's just a plot hole. I believe Pablo's secret was only his big D, but apparently he cheated too. :person_shrugging: [Edit: Okay, I think I know where I should've watched more carefully. I thought that that was Isa with Pablo in the closet, but nope.]
Other annoying thing is that they keep sending the messages (and now even Pablo's asshole "parents" wrote the note) in English, but they speak Spanish all the time. I know they probably want to make the international audience's understanding better, but it just makes the series more unrealistic. (And now that I think about it, Isa is suspect-material too, since she spoke in English to the headmaster and her mom + she even said that she would've told her secret with time to her friends... If she is the sicko, then the text messages' language is excused, but not the note for Pablo.)
This idea has so much potential, but these mistakes ruin the show for me.
Some thoughts for this episode and the past two:
- Lord, that third-wheeling in the forest... Too much second-hand embarrassment, especially because it's obvious that Addy wants Coach, and it's getting more and more visible that Coach wants Addy too. The only question here is that how can such a smart girl like Addy not see that if she was to get together with Coach, she would be Coach's third partner in just a few weeks? Girl, you want a double-cheater? Or by seeing the last scene this episode... do you want a friends-with-benefits situation with your toxic best friend?
- That scene when Addy entered the house and Coach just let her wander around without having any interest about why Addy is in her house at the first place... Why? How was that even a remotely realistic scenario in the director's mind?
- I guess "fetus" is supposed to be this unique bully-name that makes this show even more distinctive, but it just doesn't do it for me. She's just a few years younger than Beth and the others, and even though the actress does have a baby face, it still doesn't have much effect for me.
- The random di-- I mean vagina-swingings are just cringe. The "stomping it out" last episode, the "ice off" this time... Ugh.
Okay, I've noticed some Life is Strange-ish melodies throughout the whole show, but that BGM during Ellis's look's photography was 100% from Love Island, lol. xD It's whatever if they don't produce own soundtracks for this show, but at least don't use one that's so recognizable (and especially one that's from another reality show).
Loved how Ellis always complimented his models when he saw the photos of them (and sometimes even before any make-up was put on them). He's such a great person, rooting for everyone - and it was even more heartwarming to watch and hear him being in awe when he saw the photos of his older models (the red carpet lady and the lady with the "war paint")!
When I saw Leigh's plans, I already knew that he was going to go home. It was just not big and bold enough, like the judges said. Idk how didn't he realize that it would take a lot more to advance to the top 2 at this point... I'm sad to see him go because I liked him, but I also agreed with the judges' choice.
I thought he was going to win tho since I noticed in the last episode that the intro had 9 of the MUAs on the cameras and only Leigh wasn't there. But this way it's just rude that they excluded him, lol.
Yaaay, I'm so proud of Ellis! He really deserved to win! Of course, Nikki as the Face Off Assassin wasn't bad either (I actually preferred her lip more, but Ellis's eyes were just too amazing), but even if we only view the tasks of this episode, and even if we view every piece that they made, Ellis was way above Nikki. He managed his time well, he was more creative, he had more knowledge, he was more adaptable and he had more confidence in himself and his works.
Ookayy... So Sarawat stepped down from getting Tine to the hospital himself - good. But it didn't even cross his mind to ask Mil about which hospital is he taking Tine? Like a normal person?
And Tine... I understand that he's hurt, jealous or whatever - I would be too -, but not even giving Wat a chance to explain himself? Wat wasn't kissing Pam or anything, Tine literally only saw Pam hugging Wat (which wasn't mutual, either). Other than that, there's nothing. If Tine would've caught Wat cheating (even just saying something romantic to Pam), I would 100% understand him not wanting to hear about Wat again. But this wasn't the case. And I'm not only saying that because I know the cliché drama-at-the-last-episode part's cliché endgame. Wat has literally not been seen cheating on screen. Ever.
Sooo Tine is super mad at, disappointed by and hurt by Wat, but he sat down with Pam (somehow still believing that Wat loves her)? Excuse me, wtf?
Alright, I think when Wat was writing that song, he wasn't in bad terms with Tine, so why say that in the audio recording? And second... why even include that in the file when you can just say that to her in person? So that everytime she listens to it, she'll be reminded that Wat doesn't love her but loves Tine? Lol.
Ugh... Mil and Wat's brother's relationship is just so wrong. Like the latter literally accepted that Mil only chose him because Tine wasn't available? Dude...
So... no kiss whatsoever? Bruh...
