How sad to have such a limited view of what this show can be

@whos_ur_buddha This isn’t a video game. It’s about the journey.

@whos_ur_buddha This is one hell of a side story! My hour wasn't wasted, if this would have been a standalone film I'd watch it it's that good. Why does it always need the main characters to build the world they are picturing? This is storytelling at it's best.
finally, an episode that actually lives up to the name What If, rather than just gender swapping or race swapping a character
loading replies
Hmmm, you have a remarkably narrow world view if all you took from those episodes was just "gender swapping or race swapping a character." T'Challa is a very different person than Peter Quill and Peggy Carter is much more assertive due to her upbringing than opposed to Steve Rogers. The previous two episodes have very little to do with race or gender, and much more to do with how contrasting personalities put in similar situations would create vastly different outcomes.
I could have skipped this episode and missed nothing.

@martlet the show, not inly in the text but also in interviews with the show-runners, is about love and the things we do for love (good and terrible) and to protect the ones we love.
Bill is a paralel to joel and frank to ellie. Opening up the others hearts and letting love in. On closed off by his own closeted homophobia and paranoia and the other from trauma and loss of his child. Both pragmatic and overly serious not letting others in (joel didn’t even let tess in for all the years they where together)
The episode shows also how post apocalypse we don’t have to sacrifice our humanity. To do more that just surviving but to actually live and care for the things around us. And for art, and beauty.
The letter at the end really activate joel in the quest to protect ellie. He has failed to protect his daughter and as reminded, tess. It tells him that life with purpose is possible and it’s mostly someone else. And that they, both, would do anything to protect the ones they care about… and i pity the fool who stand on their way (foreshadowing what joel is going to do in the end)
There are many more reasons why this episode matters in the context of the show but a not unimportant one is that it was beautiful and a good story and telling it was something they wanted to do and was worth it… maybe not to you but for many others, apparently.

Clearly you did not, at all, understand the meaning of this episode and how it clearly ties into Joel and Ellie’s journey
I enjoyed this episode but I learnt something about TV shows these days.
It's ok to mess with a guy, tell him he's a bad dad for not being around and making him love a kid thinking it's his... Then tell him it's not his and it's all ok.
It's ok to force a guy to unwillingly have sex with you so he cheats on his girl.
All these things happened and it's ok because it was women who did it.
But, dare to misgender someone and you're evil

@walgeon I don't think the show acts like any of it is okay. Lila in general just isn't a very good person and she never had the best morales, it's really not suprising of her to do something shitty like that. And the show makes us sympathize with Diego on this I think - at least I felt really bad for him when I saw his reaction and he stuttered.
Regarding what Allison did I will not disregard the history/problem media has with not taking sexual assault of men serious enough or straight up making it the butt of the joke but I don't think that's what happened here. At least not up until now. No one said what she did was okay, it was even portrayed as a bad thing that upset Luther. And now that she killed Harlan I'd say she's pretty much a bad guy at this point.
Erm.. okay I'm so confused
loading replies
@progshine No they really shouldnt. As someone that has read the books i dont agree with that at all. If the show cant tell whats happening without additional knowledge, it has failed in that regard.
I however also dont think that Calanthe not being dead and not married to Eist yet is horribly confusing. Both of them are definitely dead and if they are both walking around it has to either be a dream or the past. How is that hard.
I think I will skip this one. A musical filler episode? No, thanks.

@alex8mr 1 star for something you didn't see ?
Wait... What?
But.. But.. but.. what about that stuff with Ray? He couldn't have done that from within, right?
I'm puzzled......loading replies
@possamai I think Ray is a warden in the prison and asked Elliot for help. The computer work always happens at night it seems because it's always dark outside judging from the windows in Ray's office. The guys that beat Elliot up are either corrupt guards or his minions inside the prison.
Can we stop with Wakanda already. Didn't like Black Panther and this is by far the weakest episode, yet.

@marcel1983 any episodes that mention anything Wakanda related, just don't watch it. Then everyone's happy, those of us that are ok with the Wakanda storylines can watch them, people like you that are not, don't have to. All good :thumbsup_tone4:

@martlet would have missed a great episode of TV that speaks to the themes of the show if not advancing the plot.
Jessica Gao is just an outright awful writer who disgraced every actor and actress in this show by ruining a wonderful Marvel character. If she believes that every man is like this, she really requires substantial help. It's really terrible. If I weren't a completist and wanted to know everything about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I would've already abandoned this show. I will have to endure all of this, tragically.
loading replies
@eddierdy I'm more concerned that even though the series also shows normal male characters, you only look at the toxic ones to shout "she thinks all men are like that".
Let's see if it's going to turn out that you identify with those types of men and the one who needs help is you.
Complaining that you're "tragically going to have to endure" watching a series is nothing to beat your chest about either.
I was expecting a lot more Herogasm but aside from that, this episode was amazing!
loading replies
@santiagolipe Well MM certainly got a lot of herogasm
The writing on the show since the pilot is all over the place, it's "borderline" terrible. We're supposed to endure the vague and ambiguous Tyrell arc just because the writer planning for something on that? why would we give a shit at all?!
Lots of people have been singing praises of this show, some even call it "DA BEST EVAR!", well those people haven't seen enough television.
loading replies
I agree a bit on the Tyrell stuff.. But I think he's going to play a bigger more meaningful role.. I can't really put my finger on why but he has a pretty weird role now and that must have a reason and it can't stay like this.
And yes, I agree that it's vague (Elliot's social anxiety doesn't help there) and ambiguous but that's also what makes it mysterious and interesting. At least for me it does and looking at the praises I'm not the only one with that opinion. And about how those people may not have seen enough television.. I think it's the opposite. We've seen too much that all looks alike (and fake as hell) that it's nice to watch something different for a change.
Plus, the realism makes it cool for the technerds (and there's lots of us). Finally screens that don't make a sound when text appears. No fancy graphics but actual linux console stuff with real existing commands and scripts.
I'm not saying it's "DA BEST EVAR!" (at least I would spell it correctly if it were) but I like it a lot.. and apparently for the same reason that you do not like it :)
Gotta love opinions.. no 2 are alike.
Am I the only one that doesn’t like Marie?

@abstractlegend I like her, I appreciate her humble roots and goals, but I think they're making us dislike her for now so we can lover her more somewhere down the road. They're messing with her mind, she's very gullible, but she has her heart in the right place.
Then again, she could become the next Homelander.
I could have skipped this episode and missed nothing.

Ignoring the ignorance for a moment, imagine if this episode had just been Joel and Ellie arriving at an abandoned town that just happened to have a truck with a working battery, supplies, and guns (things they need to move forward). That would have been unearned and confusing. Even if Joel had said “these guys have lots of stuff oh good they’re dead so they don’t need it anymore” that would have simply been boring. Show, don’t tell, is a fundamental rule in TV and movies.
This episode reminds us that The Mandalorian is a Disney product.
The Mandalorian for no reason became soft and sentimental. The only reason possible for this change is the "cute factor" shown more to the audience than the character, just like a Disney show would do. For someone who is supposed to be on this sort of job for a while, breaking a guild code just for some random child is a stupid thing to do - especially for someone who is supposed to uphold honor. The hostiles - supposedly trained soldiers and mercenaries - are nothing but incompetent mooks. Other Mandalorians show up as deus ex machina, almost feels like they are there just so Disney can sell more toys.
There is no build up. Everything in this episode is self-contained. From the appearances of other Mandalorian to the whistling bird, it's all used vulgarly in this episode.
This episode is such a huge let down. And we're still on the third episode.
loading replies
Do you really got a so straight and narrow interpretation of the main character choices? Did he took the kid only out of empathy or sentimentalism? Maybe he didn't liked the idea of the Empire toying with that unknown power like the ones he saw? Didn't that scene in the Mandalorian foundry hint at some strong code to honor in the Mandalorian hlture that goes beyond the simple mercenary work? Didn't that flashback of Mando childhood memories, suggest that he may feel a personal connection with a lonely kid being victim of the empire conflicts, even with that last image of child Mando hiding in a box to match the baby Yoda cradle image?
Is just Disney. Wow. That's it? I mean sure it is, is just a sci-fi action show not trascendental philosophy. But man... such oversimplifications make me wonder what's the point in trying to build more complex characters, when even the average audience got so monodimensional and just keeps seeing only what they want to see..even when they do not like it..
This episode was so cheesy. The dragon cgi and voice over was horrible. The dragon is in a massive cave, yet when he talks, he sounds like he's in closet, and they didn't even animate the dragon's mouth or facial expressions. This show feels more like Sabrina the teenage witch than Game of Thrones.
loading replies
@asiacrisp
How high are your standards when it comes to CGI? The dragon looked fine as far as CGI goes. Good, even. The main complaint regarding it that I've seen is the overall appearance. It looks more like a wyvern instead of a dragon or a chicken with wings, people are saying. And as far as the voice-over goes, Villentretenmerth was apparently speaking to them telepathically, so that explains why his mouth wasn't moving. But I agree that the voice-over wasn't that good.
Srsly? Are you f***** kidding me... A so predictable end that i couldn t even believe it.... 1/10

@inselberg Predictable but awesome. People hand out poor ratings carelessly on here.
This was basically a sequence of illogicality in terms of character placement.
How is the Third Sister faster than Leia who was on her way much longer. Even if she took the faster route: Why would Leia not have been taken the fastest one??
How doest the sleeper agent know where Obi-Wan is, but none of the inquisitors does? How does she get there so fast? And why the fuck did she not cross path with the Third Sister??
Not to speak of how incredibly unfounded and unrealistic it was for the Third Sister to immediately find the entry in the beginning...
Sorry, but as much as I want to like it. The later half did not suspend my disbelief in the least.loading replies
Completely agree, the character placement in this whole series is very poorly done. why does Vader just walk away when he could have, and already did, extinguish the fire the first time?
Give the audience some credit, I really hope this gets better, but I’m losing interest quickly. I’ll probably still watch the rest, just to see what happens, but I’ve lost all excitement about this series.

what the fuck was up with that intro. was waiting desperately for it to stop. actually skipped ahead in the show after 5 minutes till Elliot is waking up in bed. Absolutely not needed intro and would have much rather preferred another 10 minutes of actual show and not 90s sitcom satire.

@patrickisfrench it was not a pointless scene. there is a deep message in it, the ''switch'' of personality, his father protecting him, what weird things go on in the mind of a schizophrenic, his defense system
sorry, not a fan so far, that was 5% action and 95% filler, i don't need to see Sam and Bucky's personal lives. the first episode should come out swinging and this did not do that. and what the hell was that at the end of the episode? looks like they grabbed some random guy off the street and stuck a Captain America costume on him, guy looks like a dweeb. not impressed, hope they do better and they only have 5 episodes left
loading replies
@alexnader You know, maybe the show's not really for you if you don't care about important characters and can't remember who they are from the MANY movies they've already been in...
Is this episode written by 16 years old?
This episode wanted to be Seven Samurai but ended up as that terrible The Walking Dead episode where everyone gets slaughtered (they're not though in Mandalorian, since this is a Disney series).
There is no development and no build up at all in this episode. Like the previous episode, everything is self-contained. All are introduced and resolved in this same episode. A lot of things happened in this episode but nothing actually contributes to the plot - except for exposition dump.
The bandit raid is a terribly weak, villain of the week setup. They just show up as some evil nuisances - no motives, no goals at all. The Mando teams up with an ex-rebel, which debunks a tired cliche, but at this point this feels like a try-hard attempt to make The Mando as a morally righteous hero. There is a half-assed attempts at romance here, but it feels forced as it happens so sudden. Despite being self-contained (or maybe because it is) the episode lacks closure by the end, and the nifty little scene regarding one stray bounty hunter seems like something that appears just because they still have several episodes to go.
The dialogues are terrible: it's a tonne of exposition dumps. I don't have any idea why the writers think it makes sense for the characters to suddenly ask a stranger, "when was your last time you open your helmet?" and, in return, open up a heart-to-heart "hey I got a tragic story" past to a stranger. The banters with Gina Carano's character is okay, but it feels like they have to slip backstory every now and then. As if they're not having a real, human conversation. Every dialogue feels so forced and hurried as if they have to make it fit into this episode.
Also, it seems like they have no idea what an AT-ST is. It's a vehicle, not a droid.

@xaliber Seems like you should just stop watching
I feel bad hating on such a small detail, but as a native French speaker, when both of those guys were supposedly speaking french it was super hard to understand them.
"Frenchie" has a really thick foreign accent (I think the actor is actually Israeli) and the "random goon" has a really thick french-canadian accent. It was a real strain to make out anything they were saying, lol.
loading replies
@alexnader Correct me if I am wrong but Frenchie never said he was from France, he gets that name because he can speak french, I think the character is actually from Israel (same as the actor) and a lot of people from there can speak french but like you said they have a thick accent.
Did they really need to bring Karen back? she was completely unnecessary in this episode
loading replies
@abstractlegend And I disagree, she always jumps in when the heroes need legal help.
And she got her and Madani to see the morgue because she has history with creepy ed, Madani wouldn't have gotten in otherwise. This to get to know it was a setup which lead to Frank knowing he is not the same and doesn't deserves punishment himself. Also leading to him leaving from the hospital early.(He wanted to die from the syringe because he though he deserved it and wouldn't have left if he didn't knew this). From which point Karen isn't needed anymore as he's out of the legal reach she has. + she set off the fire alarms to let the others go undetected.
I finally figured out the writing style of the show. Lots of good stuff at start of an episode. Big action scene at end of episode. And middle filled with useless & boring stuff.
loading replies
@d0ndada middle is boring? Was some great character building in this one!
