VIP8If last year's Top Gun Maverick gave everyone the slightest bit of hope in regards to films that click with the general audience and blow up at the box office, this is the kind of film that'll make any self-respecting film fan lose all hope. Here's the deal: kids will pretty much like this by default, adults who are looking for validation of their childhood obsession will like it, and people who show up to see an actual movie won't. It's pretty much the blandest, calculated, do-nothing film they could've made out of this material. The animation is devoid of style and looks like it was originally rendered for a Dreamworks project back in 2008, the voice acting is mostly ass, it triggers the nostalgia & reference button way too often, the story & characters are watered down to a point where they're almost non-existent, it's not funny and its boomer rock soundtrack choices make absolutely no sense. It's irredeemable trash, like every product that rolls of the Illumination Entertainment conveyor belt. Nevertheless, I'm willing to bet that due to the large fanbase of the IP, this will be one of those films where in the short term some of the discourse will insist that "some people/critics don't know how to have fun" or "it's made for the fans" (only for those same people to deny ever liking it in the long haul, of course). Here’s hoping Illumination doesn’t listen to those voices in the same way that DC did after the release of Suicide Squad. This is not a foundation to build a franchise on.

@violentsneeze I can't tell if you're actually being ironic, playing into the "some people/critics don't know how to have fun" response. But I wouldn't be surprised if you aren't, since there really is no way to defend this movie without saying "well, i-it's supposed to be this bland! can't you have fun?!"
By the way, I hope you know that you can enjoy the movie perfectly fine, while still admitting to it being cookie cutter dog shit.
Pros:
- The VFX work is great, especially the dinosaursCons:
- No world building
- No exposition
- No explanations
- Nothing happens
- All of the potentially suspenseful moments were shown in the trailerI love slow movies; Lawrence of Arabia is one of my favorites. But this film is surprisingly boring, and it makes an hour and a half feel like it's dragging on. There's no meaningful dialogue because the only two characters in the film don't speak the same language. It's a dinosaur movie where nobody gets eaten, and the dinosaurs are barely even an issue until the very end.

Well that was a complete waste of time. Nothing happens after episode 5. They should’ve ended the season at episode 5

Book 1 actually ends when episode 5 ends. "You Are Bugs".
Episodes 6 and 7 the directors completely made up. Episode 8 pulls a bit from the beginning of Book 2, but it worked much better as an into to what comes next, than the closure to a season.
I'm pretty disappointed with this adaptation. The pacing is disjointed, and the original material they wrote is so much worse than the source material.
Anyway, that's my long-winded answer to why the show sucked after episode 5.

I have not watched such a beautiful, wonderful and perfect movie in the last few years. Netflix, the crew and the cast were all great. There is nothing to say about the subject of the movie. They really do this sport. I would like to thank all of them for presenting us this beautiful film. I've been added to my favourites. I don't know if such a good movie will be released this year, but for now it's number one on my list. Well done to everyone for their efforts. :blue_heart: :blue_heart: :blue_heart:

THIS SHOW NEEDS TO BE CANCELLED AND THEN REBOOTED WITH A PROPER WRITER, DIRECTOR, AND NEW CAST.
THE BEST PART OF THE HALO SHOW IS THE OPENING CREDITS........................................
I've had bowel movements I considered to be more enjoyable then watching this show.
Kwan's story continues to bore. The old lady or prophet or whatever the fuck she is, is just weird and not on par with Halo at all.
Why do they show the spartan 3's faces inside the helmet? Its the most odd perspective ever. The cinematography is terrible.
At least Master Chief was actually in his suit for once....
90% of the actors on this show are complete trash. The story is complete trash. If you ever played the game and loved it, stay completely away from this trash.
Why does Miranda always have this dumbfounded look on her face? Useless character
I enjoyed the last episode of game of thrones more than any of these halo episodes if that says anything. And... the last episode of GoT was complete fucking trash.
I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard then to have to be subjected to any more of this story. I'm only watching at this point as I am this fucking far in... I wish there would have been comments like mine here, warning me about this travesty of a show.
The spartan 3's make me grow a big rubbery one... Wish they would just focus on Master Chief. I mean, I know everyone plays the Halo game for all the other characters except Master Chief...... said no one.
I still can't stand SGT PEREZ. She is a horrible actress. She overacts on everything and she always has this dumbass look on her face.
Getting covid 19 is more enjoyable then watching this trash.
Fuck this show, if it gets renewed for a third season, I will have no absolutely no faith left in Hollywood. AGAIN, REBOOT IT AND START FRESH!

@mediacenterkodi then stop watching it. It's not the video game, so stop treating it like it is.
I really think some people don't understand the history behind the "history" that are watching at all. Many people 'see', but not 'observe'.
This series have a lot of connotations, such politics and social, from a showdown with a dictator; unto to release of real feelings. Almost all characters have a full evolution of her personality... even Naga hahaha.
At first I agree looks like a little child's series, but think is a masterpiece in all respects. I recommend this series to all public, seen or not any other series of the Avatar's universe.
PS. James Cameron's 'Avatar' not included. xD

Indeed. Without giving away too much info, each season basically deals with 1 political ideology: communism in 1, religious fundamentalism in 2, anarchy in 3, and fascism in 4.

VIP7Not as good as I was expecting.
Obviously they were trying to stuff as many black actors into one series as possible. Fortunately they were all pretty good actors except the top cop - she was annoying but that might have been down to the crappy dialogue she was left with.
The big finale was unfortunately predicable.

The rating should at least be in the 90s for sure! Very inspiring movie for me personally. If you have an idea you are trying to get off the ground, watch this movie, then you will start working on it immediately after. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross do an amazing job with the soundtrack. Interesting note that approximately 83% of trakt has been coded while listening to this soundtrack :)

Well, so they'd clean the lens of course. A simple and cheap trick so nobody unpunished has to go outside to do so...loading replies
@nephatiu I'd say it's bigger than that because we're told from the start that everyone that says they won't clean still end up cleaning. The trick makes it seem that they repented, which reinforces to everyone else that they should fall in line.
Just let me get two things out of the way I think were weak storytelling.
First, putting the drive on the hub was the stupidest thing to do as it could only lead to her getting caught. It also was illogical as it was clear that they would just override it and/or claim it as false. Granted she didn't know about the Janitor room but she knew there was surveilance everywhere and because of that might reach the conclusion that all those feeds had to be watched somewhere. But the story needs to go on so I'll take it.
Second, its hard to believe that they didn't inspect the stuff they brought to Juliette or they would have found the note. Even not knowing what it meant they would not have let it through. Plus, from a storyelling point of view it was giving too much away. Would have been better to not show it. Instead they could insert a scene when Juliette is about to break down to explain that she didn't die. And speaking of dying, Where are all the others that went out? Does someone actually go out to collect the bodies ?
Now, for the big reveal at the end I have to say I didn't see that coming. After making us believe (and I did) that it is safe outside, not only do we learn it is not, but there are literally dozens of silos out there. Does that mean the whole of mankind lives underground ? My guess is that each one thinks they are the only one and each one does have someone taking care that it stays like that. But we still don't have an idea about why ?
There is one thing I noticed that I want to point out. When Juliette told Holland about the door below he seem genuinely surprised. As if he didn't knew. That was the moment he ended the conversation. Just saying.
So, I don't know the books but from reading elsewhere I understand we barely scratched the surface of the story. I wonder how slow they will go with this one. The second season is already confirmed but thre is always the chance of not getting a third, or forth, or however many they need to play this out.
I sure hope we're not getting left hanging in the air atsome point.
loading replies
@misnomer OK, I see your point concerning the bodies. That could be an explanation. But I don't think I saw any bodies in the final overview shot. Need to go back to check that.
For sure something about the tape is different. Remember what Walker said ? That the tape has to be special or why make such a fuzz over the theft ? And I'm sure she switched it.
The door below leading to the other Silos is an intruiging thought It would give sense to Hollands reaction when Julitte told him about it. That's a good point.
Should be interesting to see how this goes on.
Thanks for the reply.

I don't agree- it's a show after all( Genre: DRAMA, not Historical).
Who cares what some people might think. Some people think Santa really exists.
The show is insulting? O.o Pardon! You see insulting things everywhere on the net/ in the real world. A show can be insulting, IF it CLAIMS to be historical. This one doesn't, however. That's why Entertainment is entertaining and history/documentaries informative. Period.
What is even going on with this season? Is it bad that I'm not even sad about Cisco leaving? what does that say about me as a fan this many seasons deep and the direction this show is heading? Guess better not think about it or I'll be depressed.

VIP8I really hated this movie, the characters were poorly constructed, especially the male characters. All of them manipulate Elle throughout the whole movie, telling her what to do and pushing her around when it suit them.
The worst part for me though was how lightly they treated Noah’s violent side. Lee wondering if he had hit Elle was incredibly painful to watch, and when he slams the car to make her come inside she really does seem frightened. He is a violent character that doesn’t change at all, just says a few nice words at the end to “make up for everything”. Lee gets some sort of redemption by helping Elle, but Noah doesn’t, and I don’t think that’s the message we want kids to get from movies like this one, that your boyfriend loves you because he gets into fights “for you” or that he manipulating you and other people around you is something sweet and a proof of how much he cares about you. That’s wrong, and this movie take on that is completely horrible and misleading.loading replies
@sandrac13 I really hated how they tried to make the "He gets into a fight for me" thing seem romantic and caring. Truth is, when a person is violent with others, they will eventually turn their violence to the ones they love, if they do not get it checked.

VIP8I'm still annoyed at Otis's behavior throughout the season, but his voicemail to Maeve was actually really sweet and what Isaac did at the end was a total dick move. Tbh given that Netflix has been canceling their shows left and right, the producers are putting a lot of faith in them with that cliffhanger ending. Nothing has really been resolved in a satisfying way, so if we don't get a season 3 it's gonna be awfully disappointing.
Also, Maeve's mom is literally the worst ever. Fuck her. I'll miss seeing Maeve with Elsie too, they had such a cute relationship.loading replies
@kcallis Agree to disagree. If you're a hardcore drug addict like Erin, there is no "safe" or "harmless" amount of drugs you can take. Well, okay, there is, and that amount is 0. If you relapse, you relapse, end of story, regardless of the kind of drug you took. Weed in the wrong hands is just as capable of destroying lives as cocaine. And judging by the fact that she had some left, it wasn't a one time thing. She would've got high again. Otherwise she would've thrown the drugs away. Maeve did what she thought was best for her little sister. She didn't report Erin to the police for drug possession, she just wanted to protect the child that was in Erin's care. Erin telling Maeve that she'll never forgive her was pure shithead behavior. Maeve forgave her for YEARS of neglect and trauma, but Erin thinks she has some moral high ground here? What was Maeve supposed to do, ignore the whole thing and risk Erin falling back into full blown addiction which would inevitably result in her abandoning or endangering her kid? Or risk Elsie finding Erin's stash and possibly getting poisoned? Nah. Fuck Erin. She's a deeply selfish and irresponsible person. She broke her sobriety and tried to hide it. If she'd truly wanted to change, she would've confessed. But she didn't say anything to anyone, not to Maeve, not to her sponsor, not to anybody. She hid it and lied about it which is what drug users do when they fall back into the clutches of addiction. She was on her way back to Junkieville. AND on top of that she treated Maeve horribly. Her 17-year-old daughter is 10,000 times more responsible than she is. But you're obviously entitled to your opinion.
