Marvel's The Punisher: 1x02 Two Dead Men

Episode 2 opens by fixing one of the problems in episode 1. It humanizes his past. Frank has an ideal and perfect memory of his wife. It's a frustrating aspect that drags down the season. He doesn't fondly remember any fights or times she got upset at him. He remember her smiling angelic face and nothing else for most of the season. In the opening for episode 2 he sees his past with his children as the complex relationship that it was.

This episode also has one of the other things that frustrated me which is to say that the writing doesn't match the video. Castle has an "I don't care about life" beard and people comment that he looks like a hipster which is supposed to be a funny call back when he eventually shaves it. The problem is he doesn't in anyway look like a hipster. It just strikes me as an odd point they should have taken out.

directing could have been better. There were many scenes which it's unclear where characters are in relation to each other. Especially the scenes in which the main character is hiding under a bed. Bad cinematography and direction like that ruined what were otherwise perfectly fine scenes and took out a lot of the tension when you can't tell how close everyone is from being found out. The ending was satisfying, there were callbacks that felt natural and not forced. The characters acted in character that makes sense. People weren't doing things that no one would do with that situation.

The Boss

This isn't the worst Melissa McCarthy film but it's probably in the bottom half. Which is an odd way to open my thoughts on a movie I rather enjoyed. McCarthy just doesn't do that many bad films. I didn't like Identity Thief and I think I didn't like Tammy. Once again minimizing the gross out humor. Her character is exactly the right sort of rogue who can be lovable and scampish and all that jazz. The movie is predictable but it's not unfunny. Perfectly okay.

Insatiable: 1x11 Winners Win. Period.

Christ again just like "In and Out" someone is getting bullied into being gay. I mean the entire "gay" storyline is basically assault and its weirdly gross how no-one recognizes this. who wrote this and thought yeah ok its fine.

what i really hate in this show is the constant pattern of disrespect that leads to an irrationally overdone moment and no one addresses the pattern of disrespect. its maddening.

I dunno who did this black girls makeup but I don't like it. she did have a great clap back and this episode's theme is back on track. the cast with the exception of the asian characters are insanely incestuous.

whoaaa derailing the momentum of the show here. I see what they're doing but "deus ex homotransual" and the ending felt like unnesessary drama yet another love interest

An interesting take on #TimesUp that I worry will leaves him open to misinterpretation.

Hmm.. as the episode goes on.. this is the most interesting stand up but I'm not sure if it's good. It's just all over the place. It's like a shotgun scattershot of standup.

I mean alright.. but man that opening... hurt. Even transitioning it into a joke about openings didn't help. There was a great jab about the viewer presuming his friend Jason is white but beyond that his cadence was just a little too low energy for his bit.

5 minutes in I still was against Sam Jay but by the end of 14 minutes. She basically won me over.

alright white girl. You know exactly what you look like and you made it work for you. She was great.

Edit: Holy snap is this where I found Taylor? How interesting. Six years later she's one of my favorite contemporary comic. She hosts a show called After Midnight now which is kinda of a trash post-LastShow game show. It's not great but every set I've seen from Taylor is, so a job is a job and that one is certainly well deserved.

First of all, there's so much nudity in this movie. It made me uncomfortable, because none of it with maybe the exception of Amanda Seyfried was necessary. In the end, we have a movie I thought would be deeper, but ended up being a far far more pedestrian mystery thriller than I anticipated. As a result it kinda worked. I never expected things to turns out as they did because I never imagined this movie would settle so low. It sounds like a back-handed compliment and it sort of is, but I did end up enjoying the movie.

DuckTales: 1x11 Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!

Is a huge fan of dark wing duck, I'll take it. I still hope that we eventually get a full dark wing duck spinoff series. Aside from the DW Easter egg at the beginning of the episode it was nice to see another character that I had really hoped would return.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: 5x20 The One Who Will Save Us All

a great episode with drama a touch of humor and one joke and one line of dialogue that didn't work. A super solid episode. Except the characterization. Mac is talking religion again like he's never killed anyone. How DARE Yoyo kill someone "We don't do that" which is strange because I've been watching from the beginning and ya'll kill people all the time. May killed a child and she became The Calvary. This is a stupid fight to have. Talbot went full Republican for ... reasons? He's already an obvious republican why did he have to insult democrats... while dealing with space aliens. So weird. YoYo and Quake fight over.... something that again has already happened and doesn't need to be debated out? Also YoYo is right why do the rules not apply to SHIELD leadership. it's one of my major issues with SHIELD. Oh we tell you waht to do but don't you darer suggest we do the same.

and yet.. as I often complain about shield in spite of literally all that above. It's still one of the strongest episodes.

iZombie: 4x09 Mac-Liv-Moore

A surprisingly good episode. iZombie has pretty much always been a consistently solid show. But this episode was actually pretty good. This despite the fact that rapper brain Live wasn't that interesting. Did she have a great entrance? Yes. But beyond that there just wasn't anything there. Her rap game was milqtoast but she didn't go too hard or too soft. It's the rest of the episode that shined. Watching Clive be the DM. the zombie serial killer drama. All of that was delicious.

Legion

To describe this hard to follow show would be to suggest it's darkly comic. But it's less comedic and more dark than any description can truly reach. It's tough and confusing but not unfair and not impossible to follow. It's a deliberate show as much as it is as cloudy show. It's great entertainment.

While technically it's based on a comic book comparing it to ANY of the superhero TV shows is unfair. This isn't a superhero show. You don't need to know anything about super heroes to follow along with this show. If you know what a "Mutant" is you're good to go. This is much closer to sci-fi anthology series like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits than any CW Superhero Show or Gotham or any of their ilk.

I suppose I should be somewhat impressed that one of my biggest complaints black one gets coupled last. Didn't happen here. And yet this riley colton relationship is super weird.

MacGyver: 2x20 Skyscraper - Power

A solid episode on what MacGyver is all about. I might call this a quintessential episode. Mac does Mac things. Jack does Jack things. Even Riley does Riley things and Bozer is Bozer. He doesn't have a thing more matter how much they try to give him one.

It has a simple problem a direct solution and no real plot progression. It doesn't even expand anything and honestly.. never needed any previous episode input. This is the episode you should show your friends who want to know what this show is about. You get in you get out you judge. The biggest issue in this show is a child. This is a "rescue the child" episode. (Minor spoiler) which is fine. But the kid is "streetwise" which a) doesn't make sense and b) hurts your ears. This is a pampered child of "the most insured man in the world". I expect the kid to have problems. I don't expect the kid to talk like he's an extra on the 1992 Musical Drama Film Newsies. It's awkward it's weird and no child talks like that. Not even in newsies. But outside of that the episode if perfectly normal for MacGyver.

The Titan

a compelling and paced opening that doesnt deliver in the back end. the acting is solid the writing and directing are okay. until the movie can't stall any longer and is forced to try to do something with what build up it has. then it stumbles and falters to a finish.

Instinct: 1x03 Secrets and Lies

Still watching but good lord the writing in the first five minutes is already so horrific. It's callous. It's stilted and generic. Ugh. It's gone belly up in three episodes. Let's see if this becomes a Castle that redeems itself or every other procedural. (Now with homosexuals!) Alan Cumming's acting is great as he has somehow become one of my favorite actors but that writing.. let's hope the rest of the episode gets better.

UGH... wow that "bar scene rant". Alan Cumming is a great so far in every scene of this episode but that scene was horrific.

Naked is a good but not great groundhog day clone. It's above decent even, with a touch of gross out humor (and I'm not talking about Marlon's naked body) that plague Wayan's films since Scary Movie 2. Still sincerity is developed eventually, though it doesn't feel that way from the start.

Groundhog Day movies are about characters becoming better people. The main character in this movie usually has to start off as a bad character and become better. Rob Anderson, our naked main character, does not start off bad. He actually starts off very sympathetic, but as the movie goes on you realize that he's not exactly good as he seemed.

It's a sort of backwards wave for character development and it causes things to start off a bit slowly because you don't realize if anyone has had any actual character progression. By the end of the movie, however, a solid argument could be made that the film is worthwhile. So to reconclude, in the end the movie is better than decent but not fantastic.

the ending was horrid. it should have cut after "the kiss". The movie was surprisingly heartfelt. Rather sincere if ironically a little too much about sex at timers.

ummm no. It was bad enough when the main character died but that "he was the psychic all along" twist was stupid.
